Hi ! I'm new to the forum...

I just got a BeoSystem 2500, Besides one broken glass door, I cleaned the CD Lens and the CD player started working again. However, every couple seconds, the CD player "slows down" but the music continue to play but with a scratchy sound.

What can cause the CD player to slow down the rotation of the CD ?

Also, The cassette player mecanism seems to be stuck. Anyone has a walkthrough to clean it and lube it properly ?

Thanks in advance

P.S.: I'm sorry, I posted this in the wrong section before...

1: The tapedeck needs a new belt, then it will work again, you cannot "lube" your way out of this. Martin (Dillen) on this forum is the preferred supplier of the belt needed. You can send him a message through this forum on his profile.

Here is a link that will show how you replace the belt, but since this is one I created for the Beocord 7000, the disassembly of the system is very different. You need to strip your 2500 very much to get access to the tape deck.

2: Regarding the cd. Is the music playing without any dropouts or anything else when this "scratching" is heard ? it could be the door-clamper that does the scratching, the part that closes onto the cd when you close the lid. It is held by magnets in the clamper, and I have seen one unit where this was very dirty, and didn't always release from its magnet.

Also make sure that the cd is placed correctly on its spindle in the unit, maybe some of the 3 ball bearings isn't doing it's job any more. In older units, I have experienced that the "rubber strip" that is used to cause friction between motor and the cd, dries out, and then the spindle just turns without the cd turing, this will also sound as scratching.

1. Yeah ! I figured that out for the belt, however, it seems a lot of trouble for something I'm not even going to use. I'd rather use the space for an iPod. It has to be cleaned a lot also. I realized that I don't even own tapes anymore ! Any advice on a conversion...?

2.The whole sound drops out. Then the Cd speeds back up and it works again. It seems worse on outer edge songs... i'll try to send a movie... The scratching is through the headphones.

I took the unit apart today. Your theory about the rubber might be right, as if I laid the CD player module on my bench, and didn't get any drop out. But it wasn't an exhaustive test.

I checked several spots with a multimeter. When the sound drops out, the 15 volt line stays the same. But the 5 volt varies. I was out of time when checking but will try again when more time is avail.

I took the whole pickup out of the unit and played a CD and didn't get any drop out... But perhaps I did not test long enough....

Thank you so much !

Someone else also answered me on the forum in my first post in the wrong section....

Tried the system this afternoon for close to 30 minutes after cleaning the clamper and it worked beautifully. God it's so beautiful. I want speakers now !
