Guys, I have the option to trade in my BV10-46 against a BV12 (with a further significant lump sum on top!). Frankly, I love the BV12. Best picture I've seen, by far, great design, thin etc. I'd match it up with my BL3s.
Anyone on here own a BV12? What do you think? Worthwhile purchase?
I doubt anyone who spends that much on a TV is going to knock it - the opinions of those that haven't aren't going to add anything anyhoo! It's your money, only you can decide whether it's worth it to you. Check out the best of the Panasonics and then make your value judgement.
Ban boring signatures!
Go for it ! BV12 is amazing ! Don't own it but it's my dream !

Set aside the cost element. As I said, I'd swap my relatively new BV10-46 and this is an ex-demo BV12, thus discounted. Let's look beyond the price in this discussion, please, as I've got that bit covered above (trade-in, discounted ex-demo BV12). Put it this way, from a cost perspective, it's realistic.
I'm looking for opinions, feedback, if there is any.
I know people knock it because of the price, but when compared to it's Panasonic brother its a bargain. Personally i don't like Plasma but above all is the sure knowledge now that superior technologies are almost in the shops.
Stick to your own advice, wait three years and get a newer 10-46(OLED or whatever has arrived from the Sony/Panasonic partnership) Even better get a Panerai and blast round Bath having fun enjoying it.
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

I just have. A PAM 292 - black ceramic on brown strap. Was a good deal though.
Chris, I'll give it some thought. I was looking at the BV7-55 MKII and comparing the Wimbledon HD picture against the BV12. The BV12 has a more natural colour palette, with the BV7-55 looking much sharper. You could pick out the different shades of grass, whereas the BV12 was a much smoother image. I prefer the BV12 for most programmes, although sport on the BV7-55/LCD does look better as it picks out the detail more cleanly.
It's just an idea. Normally I don't bother asking for opinions! But I do when I'm 50/50 over something.

In which case, spend some time with the Panasonic VT50 (be sure to check it out in THX mode) and then make your decision.
Owwwww Moxxey how could you swap that beautiful BV10 for a plasma TV that looks just like well, a TV?
I totally agree with Chris on this one! Sorry but the BV12 just does,t do it for me and those disgusting BeoLab12 bling speakers, please don't get me started! What were BANG&OLUFSEN thinking???? Just gross in every sense!
I've swapped my BV10 for BV12 and I'm really happy with it. I use it together with BL1 (silver/black)
You can see some pictures here

Moxxey,
personally,I would not be influenced by the opinions of other people.
I have always preferred Plasma to LCD/LED until I demo'd the BV 7-55 3D.
If you have demo'd a BV12 against a 7-55 and prefer the former, and can accommodate a wall mounted TV of it's size, then go for it.
Why deny yourself the pleasure of a BV12 while waiting for new technology, like OLED,to prove it's credentials, and reliability.
The only thing I would query is why, given it's relatively recent introduction,a dealer has an ex-demo BV12 for sale.
Aesthetics are very personal.
However, on picture quality grounds, in my humble opinion, the BV12 has flat out, the best overall picture quality of any direct view TV, of any technology type, that I have ever seen.
If I had the money and the room, I'd have one.
But hey, that's just my opinion.
Others may see it differently; I'd still argue on the picture quality grounds though - it's utterly superb.
Kind regards
John...

They do not, necessarily. I don't want to go in to details though (as it's unfair on a public forum). That's the downside of discussing things on here.
Deals are to be had all over the place. I don't rush in to things. I'll wait for deals on watches and if the deals aren't available, I don't buy. I rarely buy any B&O kit brand new.
Yes, I have a room that can easily accomodate the BV12. Solid wall etc. Puncher, it would have to be a B&O as it drives other content in the apartment, such as my BC6 in the kitchen.
vlohjr1:Awesome bv12 but I would save up for a new one not ex demo
If I had to fork out £17K for it, I'd rather get an Audi A1. Frankly, you need to have more money than sense to spend close to £20K on a TV, IMHO, especially when Puncher is right in saying it's a re-framed/enhanced Panasonic panel (which is around £3500 ;).
I have too admit that if i had the opportunity to own a bv12 i would jump at the chance the picture is sublime and i think it looks nice to, it's definately softer than lcd but i also feel like the picture is deeper and richer.
If you like the tv moxxey and i was i was in your position i would get it.
Beoplay A2
markiedee: it's definately softer than lcd but i also feel like the picture is deeper and richer.

That is the reason I used to prefer Plasma.
However, the reason I switched from Plasma was because the inherent dithering noise was masking fine detail.
So the Plasma v LCD/LED decision is guided to some extent by a depth/richness v greater fine detail preference.
I'm not that excited by the BV12 personally, as for me the magic of B&O TVs is in the overall 'package', with the speakers and stands etc. The BV12 Panel just looks to me like exactly that... a Plasma panel... nothing that makes an artistic statement quite like the BV10 (which IMO is the best B&O TV!). And I find HUGE screens overwhelming and not a very pleasing thing to have in a house.
I don't even watch TV much... most of the enjoyment for me is in admiring the curves when it is turned off!
Just my 2 cents - which is what this thread is asking for if I understand correctly!
Cheers, Jonathan

Isn't the BS3 separate anyway??
Puncher: Isn't the BS3 separate anyway??
Sure, but the Sky box connects to the BS3 and that controls the other TVs, no? I've never used a standalone BS3!

That would give an option of a used BS3 and a new Panasonic telly.

Can one of the mods open a Panasonic sub-forum please? :)

Fair do's - I just thought, given your oft repeated remarks about the relative contributions of the BS3 and the actual panel toward picture quality, you may be willing to consider the competition rather than buying blind.............. nevermind.
As it happens I don't actually like the look of the BV12, I prefer the more minimal look without the shiny speaker bar.........I find it a little too garish, it makes me think of an after-market spoiler ruining the look of an otherwise perfectly decent car.

I'm kidding (after the Apple request yesterday). But, no, I'd probably not go for a Panasonic, just yet. Plus, by the time I've bought the BS3 and the Panasonic display, the BV12 trade-in would only be a small additional fee - I'd rather pay that and have the BV12. I agree it's not to everyone's taste and I'm still not completely convinced myself. Will give it more thought.
For what it is worth i have not regretted buying the BV12 for a minute. Picture quality excellent, screen size right for room i have and a pleasure to look at whether turned on or off. Only small complaint would be the centre speaker where sound does not seem to come through as well as the BV9 did .... TV programs with spoken word seems to be the issue and may be more to do with my cable service than the TV itself. The 3D performance and quality on DVD is incredible. If you can swing it financially go for it and enjoy.
I have the bv12 for 1 month now and can say the picture is fantastic, it´s look nice and thin compare to old bv4-65, but here some issues i have with it (not my ex, it´s the same on all bv12)
1. Sound from bv12 centerspeaker weak compare to bl7/bl10 specially with my bl5 as front (but the less volume on speaker that was not suprising)
2. In a cinema setup with speaker conected to bsys3 and audiomaster with no speaker, b&o have in my opinion make a "frog"... the bv12 is always on !!! with a dark grey picture !!??, the reason in answer from denmark it´s because center speaker is powered from screen...? (I never use the center for audio and don´t think anyone else do either)
and what are the effect on lifetime and powerconsuming then screen is always on with darkgrey picture if listen to my radio/cd...!
3. fans in bv12 make to much noise in my opinion (easily heard with normal sound level) then
used in summertime...

Thanks for the feedback.
I also noticed that the centre speaker wasn't great, when I experienced my first BV12 demo. However, they had BL9s (and now BL5s) as front speakers and, I'll be fair, the entire experience was outstanding - visual and audio. So, that's less of an issue as it won't be any worse than the BV10 speaker and I'll be using it in combination with BL3s.
The BV12 does seem to get very warm. I've mentioned that twice to my dealer. Much warmer than my BV10. I can imagine it might struggle to keep cool if it's a warm summer's evening!
Do we know that the BV12 speaker isn't any worse than that of the BV10??
Puncher: Do we know that the BV12 speaker isn't any worse than that of the BV10??
It's only a basic centre speaker, Puncher. Basically, designed for voice etc. My dealer played the BV12 centre speaker on its own and there's no way that would hold up as the only speaker! BV12 is designed to have complimentary front speakers, at a minimum, whereas the BV10 can get away with the BV10 as it is.
If I do get the BV12 (and it's only an if), then I'd use my BL3s and BL1, with the BV12 centre.
Just an update on this. I decided against trading in my BV10-46 for the BV12 for various reasons, including:
1) It gets very warm. I remark on this every time I view the TV at my dealer. It's like a radiator. And their store is air conditioned!
2) It has a superior picture for everything but grass-based sport. I don't know why, but an LCD gives a sharper image for sport such as Wimbledon, football etc. It blends the grass too much for me. That's the downside of a plasma. And, as I watch a lot of football, the BV10-46 has a better picture in this scenario.
3) I can't get over the fact it's a £2500 retailing Panasonic plasma screen for £17,000. Now, I don't mind a bit of a markup, I can understand that it includes the BS3, but there's no way it's "worth" £17,000. Sorry guys, but it's not. Can't get my head around that. My dealer told me someone walked in at the weekend and bought one without question - but they don't know what I know and they're welcome to it.
4) I want to wait to see what happens with the updated BV10 and/or the BV11, which might replace the BV10. We'll know in a few months.
Get two , one for each eye , in fact why stop there ? Get 3 , I heard it really helps the 3d effect.

I was joking , don't take this internet thing so seriously.

With the mythical Beovision 11 on the horizon, and OLED being released at the same time.....maybe
Chris Townsend: With the mythical Beovision 11 on the horizon, and OLED being released at the same time.....maybe
It won't happen Chris. Not even a vague chance.
From what I've been told, the BV11 is like a BV10 MKII, with smaller V1-style speaker. B&O have found that users do not want such a huge speaker grill under their TV, so it will be cut down and be more suited for placing on a sideboard, table or other location.
OLED won't hit B&O for a long time. It's not even mainstream yet. Mostly B&O use the previous model's panel for their TVs. The BV12 uses the outgoing/clearance Panasonic plasma panel, as an example, as someone else rightly pointed out earlier in the thread.
vlohjr1:Moxxey any info on prices? Fancy a bigger screen size to my 740 3d
No, nothing. Dealers just speculating from what they've heard - that it either will replace the BV10 and, effectively, be a BV10 MKII. Similar design, smaller V1-style speaker. Also, that there might be a 55" version, which could be wall mounted or free-standing.
Plus, perhaps it might have a price reduction. There's speculation that there's too much of a price gap between V1-40 and BV10-40, so the BV11-40 is likely to sit somewhere between, price-wise, I guess? It will use the same chassis, so the primary difference will be the frame.
