I've got a BeoSound 8, but my iPhone 6 doesn't fit in the old connector. With the BeoPlay A8, you can change the connector, but with the BeoSound 8 that's not an option.
So, I'd just like to use it as an Airplay speaker, by connecting it to an Airport Express. But... then there's the connector sitting there for no reason other then sitting there.
Since it's a separate piece of plastic, is it possible to remove the iPhone connector competely and covering the whole with a replacement piece of plastic without a connector?
(or should I just get a saw....?)
I converted my BeoSound 8 to Airplay, but I just left the dock connector in place. If nobody has an immediate answer I will attempt to disassemble mine when I get home and see how it is connected. My initial reaction was "why bother" but now I am interested to see how it is connected. Hopefully the dock connector just has a cable that plugs into the board. Does the A8 have a blank plate to put in if you are not using a dock?
I would also be interested to know because it's clear on the dock connector (30 pin) that it looks like a separate piece.
You could also use it as a computer speaker too, plug the USB from your laptop to the USB in the connections hub on the back and if you're running itunes from there, it could save having airplay.
Mine just has an ipad2 sitting on it with the old 30 pin connection. It's fine just to drive the bs8. Plus I always thought the whole piece looked at its best with an iPad in place.
That's also a good solution - you could buy a second hand ipad and just sync your music on there and use it
It always did look better with just the ipad vs pod / phone
There appears to be four screws behind the access panel in the rear. They are pretty short screws and they are not holding the cover on by themselves. It looks like the white cover needs to be pried off. I'm going to have to find out the correct way to open this up!
Mark-N:Does the A8 have a blank plate to put in if you are not using a dock?
That's what I'd like to know as well! Because one way or the other, it should be possible to remove the connector from the BS8. It's a separate piece after all, and if something can be put together, it can be taken apart.
But it would be nice if the whole could be covered with a blank plate.
Anyone?
Maybe STB brackets or Steve @ Sounds Heavenly (links below) could make something up for you? Personally I think using an older iPad (I suggest third generation) would be the best solution and look best aesthetically. I had the BS8 for a while but then sold it on in favour of the A3 as I liked the extra portability coupled with the excellent sound reproduction.
Cheers,Simon.
