Witch one should be better?

CDM12IND (newer? from Overture), no top rail at all, not even polished slide.

VAU1253 (older? from 9300) decent rails at both sides.

Buy the EXACT same unit that is installed in there.

This is my favorite laser supplier - tell him I referred you.

Ivo.

Hello, i´ve got a beomaster 3500. Sound is pretty good, and i´m probably one of few people in cze who got this. It´s from Austria´s dump. Repairman couldn´t trust his eyes so he had to open a bottle :).I believe today It´s rare peace of history. Unfortunetly turntable on top is missing which is too pitty. I replaced it by wooden desk and now is tuner as new. It works for twelve years and i´m satisfied with that. I´m looking for Your replys. Bye guys :)

Ahoj Ivo.

Right, I can read Beomaster 3500 but that's it :-)

Newer is NOT always better.

And unless you have time and money to waste on experiments, which do not always work out OK, it is best to use the absolute original part, if if is still available.

Of course, when the original part becomes NLA, that is a good time to do experiments.

It seems that newer is seldom better than older, at least in parts so close each other.... Newer is more cost effective to do... Well, as I said laser pick-up unit is 1 to 1, only alu chassis is different.

Five volts (or thereabouts, it's not critical) should do it. It needs very little current drive, for example in a Beolab 8000 the PL power on signal (pin 4) is terminated into a 33 kohm series resistor and then 10 kohms parallel to the ground before the signal goes to the base of an NPN transistor, so less than 0.2 mA should be enough.

Hi,

could be the overload protection. I had a MCL 2P where i changed the NTC (mounted on the heatsink, connected with two cables to the mainboard.

It measured fine about 330K at around 25 degree Celcius but was somehow defect. Tried to get another one but it was nearly impossible. Finally i found a 300K NTC which worked fine.

Could also be the Hybrid Chip giving to much DC at the output Pin.

You're touching my heart there Broken Heart.

That was my first ever BeoSystem in 1976 - BeoMaster 3400, BeoGram 3400 (with CD-4 PCB), BeoCord 2200. I saved for over a year, until I could proudly walk into the dealer, and tell him "Here, I can take them home now!"

I still have the BM3400 ond BC2200, but I stupidly sold the BG3400 about 10 years ago, when I lusted after a BG4000.

There's lot's to do on the BM3400 if you want it audiophile quality!

Meaning? Some caps have already been replaced, not all of them. Have to ask Ipaul. Can't wait till it's finished, just for the looks.

Now on the search for a BM3400 quad. You think I can connect my BG6000 quad to this beauty?

The BM3400 and the BG6000 fit together PERFECTLY!

I have restored many BG6000's, and I believe there is no better RIAA pre-amp anywhere, than that which is on the CD4 circuit of the BG6000 PCB.

If IPaul is serious about his BM3400, he should contact me, not only capacitors, but many mods to resistors, diodes and the circuits.

No one? Notice position of amp, it lies on bench face down, AND that tiny off in lowwer left corner switch is towards bench and so constantly activated! Surprise

It happens to me once in a while - it's not about you being stupid, it's about bad engineering.

There is a lot of equipment made in which it's obvious that the design suits ease of initial assembly, but no consideration given to the complexity of disassembly / maintenance after the sale.

I normally scan (with my eyes) all control panels before turning them over to lie inverted on my workbench, for any protrusions (like your switch) - it saves having to repair later - just a habit learnt by bitter experience!!!

Finally iv'e finished the restoration of my second pair of Beolab Penta MKII. I was nearly done  several month ago when i dropped one of the amplifiers on the concrete floor in my workshop. The amplifier was powered when it happened and among two shortened output transistors the min pcb was broken with several traces cracked. It took me some month to get into the right mood to repair the thing. Now efter several hour of fault finding it working again.

Now connected with my BC9500 together with my second pair. All four Pentas have been refoamed, recapped crossovers, new audioclass OP's and foil caps in the signal path. The sound is mighty!

This is directed to Leslie and slightly off topic here, but I believe he mentioned having replaced the typography on various pieces of equipment. How do you have that made, is it a decal? And how do you remove the worn or partially removed old type that might be left on the equipment before applying the new type. I was trying to paint the backside of the aluminum door that goes over the sensor and tone arms of a BG 8000 and when I took the tape off part of the type on the black anodized surface came off with the tape.
