It seems that B&O did sell the sector at the right time, as BMW have gone to B&W and Mercedes have shifted to Burmeister.

Agree with that - I said it already as the deal was announced.
The Automotive sector of today is a hard business - you need a lot of cash to invest to come up against the competitors.
Letting Harman do the job and enjoying the royalities/licenses was a good decision.
It gives room to breathe for the A/V division and the B&OPlay brand
