I guess you could argue that and I do not believe AptX has any advantages over AAC really. It is probably more about CPU and energy consumption. I notice when I play bluetooth music on my computer (and my phone) that it drains the battery quicker. When I use my MacBook Pro I can see a process that is coding the music to be sent to the headphones take up quite a lot of cpu. Also it would not make much sense to re-encode music - but I believe this is happening on iOS as well.
One could argue that since the music we listen to mostly is lossy, and probably in AAC or any similar codec - AptX wouldn't make any difference at all. It is just an alternative to what bluetooth used to be for music back in the days. Anyways, enjoy your music people. I sure do!

I bought a pair yesterday and I'm quite impressed so far. I'm using the Beoplay app to make the sound bassier and warmer, otherwise I think the default sound is too treble-y. There's decent separation and detail and a good bass thump for electronic and dance music.
The design and materials are really nice, though I worry about the fabric cord getting caught on Velcro on my winter jacket once the summer is over.
The charging cube is a lovely little thing and the magnetic docking is a great touch. The magnetic clicking together round the neck to put them into stand-by is a wonderful feature - they've really thought about usability.
Music control and calls are controlled by the in-line remote, so you don't actually do gestures on the earphones themselves.
Another impressive Play product, I think.

It's soft-touch plastic (which I actually think is good!).
Yes, you can skip tracks with a double-click.
Yes, you just centre the dot in the app to restore the default sound.
soft touch plastic is not good in the long term: I have an old SonyEricsson P1 phone resting in a cupboard with soft touch plastic battery cover and nowadays it became sticky/gluey. Don't want that to happen with my headphones ;-)Thanks for the answers!
Perhaps it depends on the quality of the soft-touch finish. My Beolab 3 speakers' finish is still perfect after 10 years!

Depends very much on the material used. But I have noticed this on many different products as well. I wonder if those plastics can be a health hazard when they have deteriorated to the sticky mess.

could you please, tell me how much sound they are leaking at a normal volume level?
Personally I don't like to sit next to someone, who wears headphones, when I clearly can hear what he is listening to :-(
I wouldn't want that to happen for someone else with me wearing the H5's.

Has anyone got an idea of the sound compared to the H3:s? I love my H3:s, so if I can come close to that sound quality with out getting all tangled up in cables it would be a must have. Sadly my local dealer is closed for construction/updates of the store for the summer, so no chance for me to test them out, so any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I was surprised to get a notification in the Beoplay app telling me that a software update was already available.
I've installed it already. I think it has lessened the treble on the default audio profile.
To the owners of these earphones, I wanted to ask you a couple of questions before buying them myself:
- about the magnetic close: does it only turn them off, or when you separate them again they turn on? I had other earphones that did that and it drove me crazy because they would turn on by themselves everytime the magnets separated in my pocket.
- Can you also turn them off with the remote button? or only by pressing them together?
- Do they stick out of the ear a lot? It's hard to tell from the press pics.

Does it remember the sound profile selected with the app?
for example i select the wanted profile on my ipad and then later want to use the H5 with a non IOS/Android bluetooth sound source , does it still remeber the selected profile? Even after having been switched off and on again ?

These headphones sound great to me on paper with the exception of the "5 hours of playtime at NORMAL volumes".
My Beoplay A2 rates itself at about 10 hours but what isn't made clear is that it only last 5 hours at volumes people would normally use, then it drops to 50% volume for the last 5 hours.
With these headphones I get the feeling they will only last about 3 hours per charge which is far too little.

Still 3 hours is pretty short and means they need to be charged every day or 2. Sometimes It won't even make it through a long day. Shame.
I'll see what Apple has to offer with the iPhone 7 in terms of wireless headphones before I jump on these.

Only explanation for the weak battery i could see is weight of the units. For commute and workout 4 is probably fine, but the custom charger is annoying and if apple is really pushing no plug as the must have new iphone feature this would be something you might regret in a year.

No, it has a 50maH battery, jaybirds use 135. I am guessing size or weight limitations.
They could have also done something a bit more intelligent such as other companies have by making the carrying case have a battery in it that recharges them while on the go.

The H5 has 2 x 50maH. There is a battery in each ear.
Jaybirds have 100Mah.

The Jaybirds Freedom have only 4 hours as well! You have an extra 4 hours only with the charging clip that add weight and bulk... The X2 and the Beats wireless seems to be much bigger than the H5 (at least it's my feeling when looking at the photos when in place in ears...).
The jaybirds feature a micro-usb port and make them quite large. If the beoplay chargeblock is not too big a portable usb charger would get you trough the day.

I bought some different Comply foam tips to go on my H5 at the weekend. They are the TS-200 comfort. They provide a much better seal in my ears and they add a little extra noise isolation. I was already pleased with the H5, but the tips take them to a 10/10.
Oh, also...I just wore them on my first full commute. Started at 100% charged, and after a 90 minute journey they were still on 100%.
How about body noise transmitting while having the band lying on your neck? Do you hear the sound of your steps or body etc. while running through the cable?
The sound of the cable fabric rubbing against my collar can be heard, but I don't really move my head much when I'm walking so it's not a problem for me. The sound of my footsteps can also be heard but it's no worse than with other in-ear earphones that I've owned.
