Did you try other sources on the line in? Iphone or ipad? Same for the out on the sonos, maybe you have a bluetooth speaker or something
Hi Razlaw,
This may just be that the connecting cable from the Sonos to the Essence has a poor connection, or isn't sufficiently shielded. You are welcome to try this cable on a sale or return basis to see if it resolves the issue (simply post it back within 60 days for a full refund if it doesn't solve the problem):-

If both cables show the same problem, then it is unlikely to be a cable issue. It could be interference from nearby electrical equipment - are you able to try turning off nearby devices to see if this clears the static please?
I have the speaker power cords in stock in a wide range of lengths with a choice of country fittings if you need them: http://soundsheavenly.com/search?controller=search&orderby=position&orderway=desc&search_query=mains&submit_search=

Hi,
Common causes of noise on audio systems include: fridge/freezers, air conditioning compressors, mobile phone/laptop chargers, fish tanks/aquarium pumps, solar panel inverters and micro-generation boilers.
So the simple answer, as elephant mentioned is "Yup" - this is a likely cause. Powering off this device (but not for so long that your food goes off!) and checking the speakers for noise should confirm if there is a link.
It now appears that the problem is with Deezer not the Sonos. The static is now occurring when listening to Deezer through the Beomusic app also. Tried Spotify and music from my Beomaster through the Essence and no static.
I completely disconnected the Sonos and the static is still present when listening to Deezer through the Beomusic app. I tried my V1 to see if Deezer was working there. All I have is the Deezer logo. Can not get it to play at all on the V1.
Deezer is not available in the US except on the Moment, Sonos and one other brand. I signed up with the Sonos. But the login info worked on the Essence and V1 also, once I was signed up.
Razlaw, can you describe the kind of static you're hearing? Is it hissing? is it digital sounding? is it loud? And one more thing, do you hear it when you perhaps restart your essence and the BL 20s turn on twice with the confirmation chimes? Do you have the speakers connected to a Power strip, or surge protector? And to echo Steve and Elephant, are your speakers near a large appliance?
I have experienced noise / static in the past with my 20s (I think I may have mentioned this before), the loud, glitchy, digital, startling, kind, it was traced to a bad surge protector, it has happened only once after I removed the offending surge protector, and I'm contemplating getting a line conditioner to protect my investment. It has indeed happened again only once (plugged directly into the wall), that leads me to think that the BL20s may be sensitive to picking up noise from home wiring -- My speakers are placed in a room adjacent to the HVAC likely using the same electrical circuit.
Static is present on Beolab 1s also. Even unplugged the 20s to see if having them connected was somehow causing the problem. Static still present in the 1s.
Have had the Essence for several months with flawless performance. It is mounted in the exact same location it has been since I purchased it, mounted on a wall in the basement. Beomaster 5, and router also are in same place. Listening to Spotify right now through the Essence. No static. Also tried Tune In. No static. Beomaster 5 trimmed to Essence and back through Aux In of Beomaster 5, again no static except one brief tick when selecting a new track.
Logged in to Deezer on computer. No static there. So it seems the problem is with the Essence. But as nothing has changed in t's setup after months of flawless performance, perhaps there is a problem with it?
I connected the Sonos directly to a Beolab 4000. No static.
I connected the Essence directly to the Beolab 4000. No static.
So it seems to me the problem is one of three things:
1. The Behringer device connecting the Essence to the 5 has gone bad.
2. The Beomaster 5 has gone bad.
3. I don't think this is likely, but some setting is off in the BeoSetup app?

I suppose the next test should be reconnecting my Beosound 3000 to the system and connecting the Sonos to the Aux In of it and seeing what happens. If static, perhaps the Behringer is bad, if no static, the Beomaster?
elephant:Have got auto update on for the Essence ? A new version, 1.6, became available this week. Added google cast, timer, and alarm functions. BeoNut since '75
Thanks for all of the input and suggestions! I realized connecting the 3000 would not tell me anything as the Aux In does not need the Behringer device, just the right cables.
I may have solved the problem. I went back to the old stand by fix for electronics. Unplugged the Beosound 5 and then reconnected to the power.
Right now I am listening to Deezer from the Essence with no static! On my Beolab 1s. Have not yet tried the Beolab 20s or tried reconnecting the Sonos connect.
I tried the 20s. The problem static was gone from them also! I did hear a couple imperfections, or static. Not sure if it was static or imperfections in the recording/track that I do not hear when listening to my other speakers.
I am awaiting delivery of a new longer power cord from Sounds Heavenly so that I can disconnect the 20s from the wall outlet and connect to my power conditioner and voltage stabilizer. Hopefully, as with Sal's 20s that will solve any remaining static issues.
Have not yet reconnected the Sonos.

Good to hear about the improvement! Your cable was shipped yesterday, so this should reach you very soon.
Razlaw:The static had returned today
I tried connecting the Behringer to the other USB input on the Beomaster 5. Static still present. I then went in to the Beosetup app and changed the setting for line in sensitivity from disable to medium. For now, the static is gone. But previously, changing from medium to disable solved the problem.
Next time the static returns I am going to disconnect the Beomaster, connect my Beosound 3000 and use the aux in on it. If there is no problem there, I will at lleast know the problem is with the Behringer or the Beomaster.. Also, I still have not tried reconnecting the Sonos to the Essence.
As the Sonos is not connected, I am not sure why changing the line in sensitivity would have any affect on it. But so far, all continues to work.
After listening to Deezer for quite awhile, I switched to a BuRay and then N. Music on the Beosound 5. When I went back to Deezer, the static had returned. So I tend to think the problem is in the Beomaster? Something about switching between Beomaster sources triggers the problem?
I have said this before, and been wrong. But I think I have the problem solved. I reconnected my Beosound 3000 to the system. This also meant I had to change settings on Beosound 5 from being Audio Master and make the Beosound 3000 the Audio Master. I had not wanted to do that as I did not want to lose Spotify on the Beosound 5 but with it and Deezer on the Essence, and possibly canceling Spotify to use Deezer it does not matter.
Connected the Essence to the Aux In of the 3000 and the Sonos to the Essence
Everything seems to work! no static!
Hopefully it continues to work
Occasional one bit of static when switching tracks via the app but don't think there is anything that can be done about that.
Razlaw:Two days later...and still no static...😀
