Am I correct, that a Beoplay A6 would have exactly the same functionality in a multiroom system as an Essence MKII with a pair of Beolab 4000s? I understand there may be differences between the Essence remote and the A6 controls, also sound would be different. But other than those things, functionality would be identical?

You can add an ir eye to the BeoSound Essence box and use the beo-remote to control it.

This is not possible with the B&O Play A6.

The A6 has the easy controls on the device - both can be controlled by the 'wheely' and the app.

Depending on your listening habits and needs (in that room) you would have a wider stereo seperation as well as the opportunity to change to other speakers with the Essence/BL4000 solution.

The visual appearance is completely different - but this is of course more a matter of taste.

When used in a NL setup - you can borrow/join the same sources from both.

There is a tv - and there is a BV

One hour ago I posted a one word response to MM, "Thanks!" from my phone. It did not show up. I posted a second time. It did not show up. I just tried posting the one word response "Thanks!" again, for the third time, this time from a computer. Received message saying duplicate posts not allowed.

To MM, trying yet again...Thanks!

That's pretty much how i explained the purpose of the Essence to a "trainee" at the B&O dealership.  We were waiting for the "expert" to come around, and he was like "I don't get it, what does the Essence do?".  I said, "It's like an A6 built to drive external speakers".  When the "expert" came around (and, for a change, the guy really did know what he was talking about - helped me better understand the capabilities of the BeoLink Converter), he agreed with this.

Thanks! I have been considering and A6 for a bathroom. But I have an extra pair of Beolab 4000s and a perfect place to wall mount them and connect to an Essence.
