Sal:

this is B&O, and they're not just single diameter frets with a frame, as are those for the BL18 -- maybe that justifies the price?

Every one of the 19 pieces on the BL18 lamella is a different profile.

True, their widths are different with the outers being wider than the inner. But for the BV14, the width along their length is differe as well as what appears to be a wedge kind of shaping for them. In a nutshell, likely taking more time in forming their profiles than those of the BL18.

Is it available with a black aluminium frame as well or am I just misunderstanding? All pictues seems to be on the "natural" aluminium frame and I cannot see that the specifications mentions anything about a black frame.

Interesting. Just pulled the trigger on a second hand BV11-55 with black frame to replace my 11-40 with natural aluminium frame (and white plastics back). So no visual difference between the BV11 and the BV14 with a black frame either. Would be very interesting to see pictures from Mr Andersson when it has arrived. I am a bit afraid the all black version might dominate my room but I do not find the current color scheme on the frets that tempting either. Oak might be an alternative even though an expensive one...

Thanks! It really to me a while but after your confirmation I was finally able to find it when I downloaded the product sheet.

Does the Android TV OS takes over everything in the UI or just the Smart TV Apps? It's not clear to me if there is still a Beosystem (for setting up Speakers, calibrate audio etc...)

There is a B&O setup menu that is more "Beosystem like", but I don't know if it also Android, my guess is yes.. It is more responsive though, than the smart-tv menu, and it looks like the good old grey beovision menus.

Congratulations on your black BV11-55. My wife and I purchased one last year, boy how time flies. Please post some pictures. Ours is on an easel stand right now, but we've been thinking about switching to a motorized stand. The black is just lovely, and frankly I found it more pleasing to not have any distracting reflections as opposed to the natural aluminum frame. The edge of the TV just seems to disappear.

The menu system is very similar to what is currently implemented in the BV11/ v. 1 & v.1.5 Avants. It will have the same wordings etc., but just in an android structure of doing things.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

It looks like the Beosystem is still there.  I read the user guide and listen to the youtube conference call carefully. It appears BV14 can be used without the Android TV system.  At least I am hoping that the Android TV is not directly needed.  Currently I use Apple TV,  Amazon Fire TV, and a Mac Mini.  The new BT Beoremote one is interesting.  In the video they paired the remote to an iPhone for a test.  Also of interest is the Audio in port on the TV.  You could probably attach a Beogram and play LPs from the TV.

Beovision 14 is not available in the US until December so I have lots of time to learn from my fellow Beoworlders.  A December launch of the Beovision 14 is certainly odd.  Christmas activities will be underway.  I also take my early winter vacation in early December.  The Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas could add additional problems for B&O because of the frenzy of other manufacturer's TV introductions.

I was never a great follower of the Beoremote One, found it small, not sturdy and I did got a fragile feeling compared to the BEO4.

I used this morning the new Beoremote One with a Horizon TV and found it absolutely fantastic to use. You don't have to point to your television, what a great step forward.

Ever since the V-terminal 30 years ago, you could point your B&O remote any which way you wanted.

B&O is properly the only vendor that had to provide programmable attenuation of the remote control power/sensitivity, in order to avoid operating equipment in other rooms!

Now you can use Beomusic app on BV11! But in a very limited way.

Hopefully more with BV14

Thanks, it's pretty interesting.

"No we don't have Dolby Atmos but you can setup ceiling speakers". A dealer texts "Yes but it's not the same thing..." to which the presenter replies "Yes but we compared and it's not worse".

And this hurt my eyes, thank God it's just an option.

I watched the presentation.. A Netflix button is mandatory by Netflix.. and B&O is not very fond of it... But they had to produce one according to the licensing... An customers can choose which remote they want.

Just learned (from a trusted source) that the Beovisions for next year (with LG OLED panels) will have WebOS and not Android.

That is a requirement from LG.

Probably a good choice; have read some good things about webOS 3.0

I hope to replace my current BV7-40 mk3 for a OLED B&O in 2017

A few things could justify my change from BV11-46 mk2 (wisa/danish) to BV14-55 :

- 4k panel (my wife just got a 4k camera),

- 4 hdmi 4k enable,

- usb recording on hdd.

Or an Avant Mk2 for a new look (allready had BV10 before BV11) and presumably better sound than BV14.

Will go to my dealer for a test of the new tv's when out.

Of course can't stop thinking Danish BV11 is a keeper, last of is breed and still outstanding.

Thanks that was a brilliant video - this type of information is more informative to me than marketing videos.

Now I understand the 14 has a Samsung panel, the wifi antennas have been moved and separated and placed up the top, the gaskets have been improved for dust reasons, the chassis has been stiffened to minimize any potential glass breakage, the cabinet is ever so slightly different to allow for the new UHD panel, etc.

Excellent.

And it also explained the difference between the new avant, the 14 and the horizon in the picture and sound areas. :-)

If you want 3D you have to go for an Avant.

Why, oh why does there have to be a SmartTV platform in a B&O tv?

First the unsuccessfull, faling one in the BV11 etc - then the google engaged one now  - and next year the WebOS of the LG's.

Stop experimenting (and wasting time and efford) - just offer us a BV and let the costumer choose (PUC enabled) Google boxes/Chrome, AppleTV or whatever - some just want to connect a small HTPC....

Let the dealers install them for the costumer (when nescessary).

Probably because people buy televisions based on specs: and TVs are now called Smart TVs and not monitors lol. When the smart TV platform came out I thought let's see what apps they have compared to the Sony and I gave up :-) I thought as I am already connecting an Apple TV to the Avant, I'll just use that as it will no doubt be quicker anyway, because most TVs just don't have the processing power required to handle them. But this suits me but potentially wouldn't be beneficial for others.

I have been thinking that Maybe B&O went Android because we (mostly) pan B&O for poor software implementation so they may have thought "hmmm lets go with a software company that updates their own platform".

I know a lot of people love apps on a TV ( I am not fussed either way as I use my computer) and won't buy one if it doesn't have them - even if they don't really use them lol, because people buy on 'specs'.

That being said, I did finally use the YouTube app on the Avant the other day and it was pretty snappy.

If we think about it, For some customers, who may, or may not be technically challenged the more simple integration on the BeoRemote to press TV > Netflix as opposed to TV > Apple TV > Netflix makes their life easier. For some customers if you say "oh you just connect a(nother) box to the back of the avant - they may not want another box - this could very well be from a design perspective or even from a technical one. Why do I need to buy another box? If the TV could do it, etc etc. Although it's a great customer service initiative for the dealer to set it up, what happens when that box fails? I see the point B&O are trying to do with having a Smart TV platform even if the services to date haven't been the best in the market.

Of course you are right, but...

...I was just thinking of the fact that a change next year to an LG platform would bring yet another SmartTV solution to us.

And that B&O (at least for some time) will have to maintain 3 platforms!

As far as I have understood it, the Google SmartTV platform in the new tv's is by far not ready for use - should I now

buy a new BV with a platform, that is promised finished 'in the fall'?

For now I'd have to have an external box anyway - personally in any case I would have the ATV4 running,

because I am not very fond of the Google thing (or rather of too much Google thing).

Being able to adress things like Youtube, Spotify, Deezer directly (without fiddling with the app gallery) is a fine and unique thing with the BV11/Avant/V1,

On the other hand - hardly anyone uses the app interface on the BV11/Avant/V1. Do you? - I do it very seldom!

Airplaying or (now with the new BV's) casting is much easier.

And when (or if) the Netflix app on the new BV's will work with direct access is still unknown (they say in the fall).

Playing with the Horizon I (and my dealer) did not find any way to assign an app to a 'button'/to make it a direct accessable source like with what we know from the BV11/Avant/V1.
