Hi all, i just recently tested out the pairs, and the left speaker i noticed was more off than the right one and heard the base was terribel on it in that crackleing type way, but it was trying to push out the base note's, so i compared what was up with the base speaker touching on it carefully i could clearly hear it was grateing and the other was just super quiet when i touched on the speaker cone.

that model, sound wise when its trying only on the woofer. in regulare stereo mode, the tweeter's and treble are fine on it.

and its mainly going to be used as a regulare pair of stereo speakers, and its a stereo reciver model 4400

If you gently push the speaker cone in and out does it rub? Does it make a grating noise?

Pressing the center of the woofer with 3 fingers on the cone it should move freely in and out, if it make a noise or you feel like it is touching something, you may have a loose magnet or bad surround

how easy will it be to put the magnet back on it?

and its a good sign if the speaker itself can move on its own, right?

If the magnet is loose the cone wont move at all, or only with hard pressure, was your woofer repaired with new surrounds (the foam sitting around the cone attaching it to the basket) at some point ? can you post a pic of the woofer ?

I wish i could do pictures, but the phone hates low light.

So yeah, but it might be that fault, i mean, i do have slight troubel moveing the cone not so freely, so its possibly a lose magnet the speakers was sold for.

Try this, cut the dust cap with a sharp knife all around except for 3-5 mm, tilt it up and fasten it with tape. Find or cut off a piece of acetate about 0.1 mm thick 100 mm long and 10-15 mm wide, insert the acetate strip between voice coil and the magnet center piece, if you can move it all around in the gap its OK if the magnet is loose it will be stuck to one side, see pic, the pic is made shimming a woofer for new surrounds

If you want us to help you must do a little yourself any thin stiff plastic strip will do

Im pretty sure i got plastic somewhere around thats thin enough for that, ah, im so silly, i just did a comparison between the good and bad one, it is makeing that grating noise as you suqested, my fault, the other speaker is quiet while the other is grateing.

Hey, i treid changeing the position of the speaker and somehow it made it lose the base sound of it, but the grateing is gone.

Moving around and keep playing the speaker may make the failure worse or destroy the voice coil, how is the condition of the foam surround ? and give us some pics evt. take the woofer out of the case and give us pics from the front and back of the woofer

Now desolder the wires from the woofer, mark them and the solder tags properly, then measure with an Ohm meter across the tags and tell me how many Ohms you have (if any)

If the voice coil is OK the woofer can be repaired (very difficult) here a link on how too http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/1243/10546.aspx#10546

ive had the speaker running for a while with the replaced base and the sound havent fainted out, so the entire speaker just needs some good cones and it will be playing music fully again, the base is booming well on it.
