I have exactly the same set up, with an extra beolab 2.

I have the emotiva UMC - 1 as surround processor. So you can do the same thing with your denon receiver as long as it has pre outs.

Just take a look at this topic:

thanks for the reply Desmo,

it might be better to describe my complete setup how it works now;

I have a beosound 9000 which I use together with 2 beolab 8000 if I use it for radio and cd music.

For the surround I use my Denon receiver which I have connected with the AUX of the beosound to use it as front speakers.

For the rear, center and sub I use the power output of the denon and use non active speakers.

It works fine but I always liked the sound and the design of the Beolab 1 and like to buy a pair and then use them as rear speakers.

Now I want to know how to do this,is there a way to connect the pre out rear to the beosound 9000 and have the output send to the rear speakers?

Ofcourse all the beolab speakers should work also when listing only to the beosound (music)

If anyone does know how....it would be a great help to me Big Smile

Many thanks,

Kris

Using beolab 8000 as fronts and beolab 1 as rears wouldn't make any sense.

The beolab 1's are much better and powerfull speakers then the 8000's, therfore the 1's should be your front speakers.

To answer your questions; you have to connect all your speakers and all your sources to the denon receiver.you can use the aux out of the beosound 9000 and connect it to the analogue in of the denon receiver.

This way you only use the beosound as a cd player and the denon as your main music system.

Playing cd's will activate the front speakers (or all speakers depending on your settings)

Playing movies will give you a full surround settup.

You can connect your beolab spakers to the preouts and the other speakers to the powered outputs and when you have the beolab 's replace them for the front speakers on the pre outs and move the 8000's to the back.

Hi Desmo,

once again thanks for your help, however I don't understand it all the way Wink

I don't know how you can connect a beolab to a non B&O receiver that has cinh connectors ,ok you can use a din to cinch converter, but the beolab speaker need the (5 Volt) signal to switch them on not?

I understand what you mean by using the beosound AUx and use the denon as main music system.

Also it is better to use the Beolab 1 as front speakers because they are more powerful.

So you tell me to have all my speakers (also the beolabs) connected to the Denon but the remaining question is how to do this with the Beolabs?

Many thanks,

Kris

Kris,

I fake a powerlink connection. I have all wires connected from a mk3 powerlink cable.

So I included the mass, trigger, ground and left, right, rear, etc cable. The trigger comes from the 12v output of the receiver (denon), converted to 5v for the powerlink cable. Converting works with a diode an a resistance. It's very easy to do and works perfect.

I got all wiring diagrams from peter pan:

http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&u=http://www.hifi4all.dk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=23818

And if you can't or will not do it by yourself you can buy the converters on this website:

http://www.av-connection.dk/?PGr=5665&ML=328

Or you can go the easy way and use the line in of the speakers. In this case the speaker will turn on automatically when there is a signal. for the rear speakers you risk the speakers are clicking off, because of a silence in the movies. Therefore i faked the powerlink connection.

Ok Desmo now I'm getting to understand how it works, just one question,

In case I should use the line in on the beolab's for using it watching movies (with the Denon) can I also connect them with the powerlink on the beosound,so the trigger signal will come from the beosound if I put it in AUX mode and then use the signal from the Denon.

By doing this the there is still a connection with the Beosound and the Beoalabs so it can be used as music system without the Denon.

Or other option; if I use the line in on the Beolab's  and I use a powerlink plug with battery box (3 Volt) to have the trigger and the beolabs won't shut off during a silent part of a movie.

Or is this not a good idea?

thanks,

kris

Kris,

You cannot connect both, because you have to choose with the switch on your speaker the signal (L/ R/ Line)

The only way is connect all the speakers to the denon and the beosound via Aux out to analogue input on the denon.

You only have to choose to go the easy way: Connect the line input on the speaker and the will automatically turn on and off.

Or go the hard way and fake the powerlink (with trigger) so the speakers will turn on and off with your Denon.

Hi guys, have been looking through the forum and this thread seems to be closely related to what I need answered.

I wonder what non-B&O receiver can be used to give me surround sound on my B&O speakers? and also what converters I need?

I have Beolab 8000s in the front (Active),

Beovox 2s in the rear (Passive),

Beolab 11 subwoofer,

and a non-B&O centre speaker.

I do not have $100k to spend on the Beosystem 3, and as far as I know this is the only B&O surround receiver system out there, is it not?

All answers, good or bad, is appreciated!

Look for a Rotel, Denon or Onkyo receiver/amplifier.

You can connect the speakers and trigger the actives with a minijackplug. Passives is no problem at all.

Just look for a av receiver with 2 trigger out 12 volt and get the cables mentioned from av-connection.dk . I will be using my pioneer lx vsx 60 in combination with a kuro plasma pdp lx 5090h.
