Hi all, I'm a long term reader of this forum and just recently purchased 2 pairs of Beolab Pentas Mk1's. As you would expect the midrange speakers all needed refoaming (which has now been done) but only one of the 4 amps is working. I'm looking at replacing the original amps with icepower amps. After searching google and this forum I cant find a detailed how to guide. Can anyone point me in the right direction of maybe explain how this can be done. My main concern is how do I connect the icepower to the front bottom panel? or is this redundant when I go with the icepower?  Thanks in advance.

Hi

Interesting Project you have in mind. I have no Pentas at home but i think about replacing the amps with icepower of beolab 3000 / beolab 4500 which are about the same Generation of amps with info-panels. You have basically the following possibilities:

  • Ignoring the existing amp by connecting the Output of the (external) Icepower amp to the DIN-Speaker Input. Major drawback: You will loose the Information on the Panel.
  • Replacing the existing amp in the base with an appropriate Icepower System (One amp Channel per Beolab Speaker). You should be able to use the existing Drivers for the Panels. You can use the powerlink Input for your new System including the mute function and Datalink-Information for the info panel.
  • Replacing the existing amp in the base and the existing crossover in the Speaker with at least three Icepower Channels and a suitable analog or digital crossover (Needs some special skills and meausurement instruments, never saw a finished project like this)

For the last two possibilities i suggest you upgrade to a silver or golden Beoworld Membership to get Access to the Service Manuals with all the Details and schematics of the existing amps and Panels.

Good luck and best regards, David

Hi David, thanks for your detailed reply. I prefer option 2

  • Replacing the existing amp in the base with an appropriate Icepower System (One amp Channel per Beolab Speaker). You should be able to use the existing Drivers for the Panels. You can use the powerlink Input for your new System including the mute function and Datalink-Information for the info panel.

I guess my question is which icepower system do I buy? and how do I wire it up to the components inside the penta?

Hi all, after much research i think the easiest option is to replace the existing amp and power supply with an icepower 300asc. Has anyone out there had experience with this amp? It has standby mode , integrated power supply and at 300w shouldn't be too powerful or the pentas.

Just need to make sure it physically fits.

Oh while researching I found this old post about putting a 200asc in a beovox penta, but its missing the photos, is someone able to repost the photos?

Thanks

Hi all, just a quick update, I've finally been able to track down some icepower 125asc modules, that i'll wire up in BTL.

Is someone able to fixup the photo links to this old forum post?

It would be great to see how someone else has done this. Or if any of there are able to step me through the process that would be great. I cant wait to get these working again.

Sorry for the late reply, I never ended up installing the icepower modules in the pentas. I found a beautiful mk3 set and used the mk2 sets as passive speakers. Im sorry, I wish i had completed the project.
