Cleaning

Hi all, 

This isn't exactly related to B & O, but I wonder what other people use to clean / keep their vinyl records before putting them on the record deck.

I've bought quite a lot of used albums recently and need to clean some of them; probably most before playing them.

I'd be grateful for any recommendations or advice.

It really matters how dirty they are; for general cleaning I use a dedicated vinyl record spray cleaner and cloth. If you want to seriously invest into your vinyl you can't go wrong, as mentioned, with a Project cleaning machine (they are a little bulky in size) or try your local record shop as they may offer this service at a small cost. It's also worth cleaning your needle once in a while with a "magic eraser" (just lower and raise the needle onto a small piece of the cleaning sponge)

 

I also invested in quality polylined,acid free paper inner record sleeves as an added protection.

Made by our Beolover. I was given a few hundred really dirty records this summer, some with visible mold/mildew growing on them. One of those mold growers now plays with only 2or3 crackles on the album after an ultrasonic cleaning.

But alas, the albums that were destroyed by abuse before being dirty are still destroyed.

I use a lint free cotton bud (for ear cleaning), place it on the edge of the record and walk round in circles ever so slowly until I get to the end of the side. Turn over and repeat.

I do that in the same manner,but I take two pit stops before turning over
