All,
finally one of my >16 year old Beolab 6000 has died and is giving me an excuse to go buy new speakers! Now the question is of course: Which ones?
The speakers will be connected to a BeoVision V1 40 as the only speakers. I am using them to watch movies, but also to listen to music (through AppleTV connected to the TV). The room is about 4x6 meters big.
Right now I can get used speakers in good condition on eBay for about 800€ (Beolab 8000), 1100€ (Beolab 3), or 1800€ (Beolab 17). Which ones would you say have the best sound, especially for music (for TV I was happy with my Beolab 6000 actually) ?
Thanks a LOT in advance for any advice,
Christof

BeoNut since '75
BeoLab 17!
But you will surely find advocates for the others too :-)

There is a tv - and there is a BV

If the BL17s are affordable why not buy the BL8Ks as fronts and the BL3s as rears and ho surround sound (I presumed the V1 supports 5.1 -- if not perhaps the BL17 are the best as they are the most up to date and likely to last longest ?)

Thanks for the suggestion, but no surround for me, too much cabling involved...

The Lab 3s would be my choice. They are an incredible speaker and often underestimated in terms of their performance I think. Truth is you're not going to make a bad decision whichever way you go when it comes to speakers and B&O. This is their forte and where they excel. Simon.
B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.

Yep, this is my point of view also. I am sure all 3 are good choices. But on the other hand, I still want to make sure that I get the best ones in that price range...
I haven't heard the 17s but there's not much between 8000s and 3s I'd say. But 3s probably have a slight advantage in terms of flexibility. They can easily be combined with a Beolab 11 and then are probably the better combination than 8000 + 11. They are also great in a surround setup. If the design pleases you, I'd pick the 3s over the 8000s. Soundwise, I'd say it's the better option; not by much, but significantly so.
BeoGreg:Beolab 17 all the way for me. Each time I ear those speakers I can't believe how good they are. Second choice Beolab 3, the lens does a great job for music (if you don't like heavy bass).

So you'd say that 17 has better bass than 3, which in turn has better bass than 8000 ?
BeoGreg:Oh yes. I have 8000's, I had a few times 3's at home for some tests (great for the size) but the next one would be the 17's (or 18's but purely aestheticaly). The 17's are the best bang for the bucks I think.

For sure I would take the 18s over the 17s also - but 4K is definitely more than I am ready to spend for a pair of used speakers... So I guess I have to shoot for 17s! Thanks for your help, community!!!
