...look below:
It is fun sitting in that cosy chair listening to music.
But then again - it reveals the disadvantages of having a two speaker setup aka a stereo setup.
If you sit right in the middle, it's ok!
But whenever you move a bit to the left or to the right, the stereo image collapses.
Most noticeable when the singer then moves from the center to either of the sides.
And ---- if you move half a meter forward, the tonal character changes too - the highs gets more present etc etc....
But anyway - it is fun sitting there ----- sometimes playing (way too) loud
The room is our dining-/everything-area, so we also walk around or sit somewhere else.
Please notice - I had no other option for placing the speakers in this case/at the moment.
There is no doubt, that the BL4000 is still a good speaker!
But when I think about it, surely a 'speaker unit' like the BeoSound 2 would have been the better choice in that room and for this purpose.
As with any speaker purchase there is a story behind this 'setup' ------- so there is more to tell.
These BL4000 were the speakers of my dear cousin for many years.
Sadly she passed away - way too young - a couple of years ago.
The speakers then were supposed to become a new home in her daughters apartment.
She did not have any further B&O gear - they had been connected to a BC1, which she soon got rid of.
So she did not really knew what to do with them.
I offered her to help connecting them to some other non-B&O gear, she had.
But that never occurred - she is living pretty far away from our place.
A couple of months ago I paid her a visit and she offered me the speakers right away.
Of course I would not say no.
She had to search for them in the lot - she simply wanted to get rid of them now!
I knew of the age and saw that they had become some (!) scratches in the meantime, but....
....as you say - you don't look gift horses in the mouth!
Safely at home, I began wondering where to place them/use them.
Kind of a luxury problem, but when you have been into B&O for many years, such things easily happen
I guess that this is a well-known fact amongst Beoworlders!
Having decided where, I went searching for a set of stands for them.
Found those pretty cheap, but had to drive some way to get them.
Of course I had tested the 4000's before doing anything - aged 4000's are often not to trust.
All went fine - I got them mounted...which is pretty/damn hard, when you want the cables to go through the 'pipes' of that stand (as in the pictures, they show us).
The story however, hasn't ended yet
I enjoyed them for a couple of days....untill one of them started failing.
At first it set out for some seconds - switching from green to red - and after a while it did not even turn on.
Okay - being not a B&O novice - I knew what was about to come.....
After unmounting it (sigh), I took it to 'a friend' of mine to have it fixed.
And of course it was the feared disease of the insulation material, that these old speakers often have.
That material simply turns into some sort of grease within years.
It cost me (of course) more, than expected - the speaker (or more precisely the board in the speaker) was damaged/'terminated'.
Fortunately you can still get the board, so it was pretty easy to fix.
The speaker now sounds as good as new
Beware - what if the other one has the same disease?
So off it went for examination.
Fortunately the process of 'ingreasing' was by far not as advanced, as with the first one.
It was saved by wiping off and by removing the insulation material.
Now - well mounted and placed as you see in the picture - they have grown 'dear' (read expensive) to me.
Even if a BS2 would be better in that room, I am not sure that they will be replaced that soon.
You have to live with your faith, some people say!
Have a seat
paolomariano:Playboy style?!?! Really?!
I'd take that as a compliment :-)
Paolo, with your BL12s, where is the power socket? How is it installed? Im so intrigued
YES ! Enough with B&O speakers and white walls, SHOW us the GIRLS now!

MM,
Don't you need to turn the speakers toward the centre of the sofa to have "all" the sound? (without acoustic lenses, that's what I'd have thought at first...)

That will always be a compromise - as I wrote, we are listening elsewhere in that room too.
And I am certainly not going to 'rearrange' (turn) the speakers each time I/we change position.
P.S. When I want to do things right, I have another room for listening - or I will put on my real headphones, the H6.

paolomariano:Hi! Well, the power socket is just there where I needed it, behind the speaker, so that everything is hidden away once the speaker is mounted. Just as simple as it seems

paolomariano:Actually this morning I tried to find those pictures but I have not been able to retrieve them anymore. As soon as I have some time, I will take one speaker away and take some pictures for you.
Aussie Michael:What is your thoughts of the BS1 in your BeoShrine?
I will wait for BeoSound 2 and then I will decide which one to buy. Btw, BeoSound 1 sounds very good. The best small bluetooth player ever.
