ChristianK kindly informed us on the danish 'Peter Pan forum' that from now on (after the update) there is support for multiroom using AirPlay on the NL products

There is a tv - and there is a BV

smile and enjoy the moment
According to B&O support page:
Beoplay A6
v. 1.10.6683 – Released 31.01.2017
Livingroom: BL3, BL11, BV11-46 Kitchen: Beosound 1 GVA, Beocom 2 Bathroom: M3 Homeoffice: M3, Beocom 2 Library: Beosound Emerge, Beocom 6000 Bedroom: M5, Essence remote Travel: Beoplay E8 2.0, Beoplay EQ, Beoplay Earset
Bought a BV just to have a AppleTV as airplay source. Not a real punishment, but tad late.
Flere:I wonder whether AirPlay now works for an integrated Essence?
'AirPlay multiroom distribution, once enabled, works also towards Bang & Olufsen TVs as well as in integrated setup / "speaker sharing" mode between an AirPlay Bang & Olufsen product and a Bang & Olufsen TV.'
Man, for just how long have we been asking for this!
Great ;-)
Thanks to the guys at B&O
just when i was to install a new workaround, lol.
already tried it: great and also a big thanxalot to Struer
Wohnzimmer: BeoVision Avant 55", BeoLab 11, 12-2 und 12-3 für 5.1-Sound + appleTV 4K und Philips BluRay-Player; BeoSound 2, BeoSound 3000 (fast nur noch Deko)////Schlafzimmer: BeoEssence MkII, BeoLab 4000 + Samsung 46"-TV////Büro: BLC NL/ML, BeoSound 35, Thorens TD320MkII, Samsung 32"-TV, WesternDigital 4TB-Server////Bad: BeoLab 2000; alles CAT7 verkabelt////Küche: M5 (drahtlos) plus diverse apple-Geräte (imac, macbook, ipads, iphones, timecapsule, watch)

I wonder how long it will take for an Apple lawyer to drop a bomb on Struer... something to do with licensing...
BUT... good move from B&O that they got it working.
Karel.

Aussie Michael:And Apple lawyers forgot what Apple originally stood for. Opening up computing and making it accessible.

I would not worry there.
B&O usually don't do things before the coast is clear.
Aussie Michael:Something I don't get is what's the point? I mean that in the nicest possible way If you have your music on your phone - don't you just use NL multi room and the beomusic app? Why would you use airplay?

If you have your music on your phone - don't you just use NL multi room and the beomusic app?
Why would you use airplay?
I have zero music on my phone!!!
Why should I?
It is either on my NAS or in the sky (Spotify Premium).
The big change is, that I can start the playback in the appropriate app, choose an AirPlay receiver (my Essence or one of my ATV's)
and then just join-in from anywhere on the NL-network.
This goes of course for any AirPlay enabled music source.
rob08: Does it also work with Apple Music songs?

yes

Curious: how does AirPlay save battery? It's not like Google Cast where it's streaming from the cloud, AirPlay streams directly from your device and has to constantly transcode the stream in Apple Lossless to do that. This is an honest question from someone with zero experience from BeoMusic.

Of course AirPlay does not save power on the device.
On the contrary, it uses.
Personally I never had any concern there - never noticed that this should be important for my daily use of my iDevices.
Still waiting for some real research about how much power AirPlay uses?
AirPlay - when you are an iOS user - many advantages.
The nicest thing about ChromeCast - apart from being the only possibility for Android users - is, that it does not 'block' your device, since the stream is fetched directly from the playbac device.
For an iOS user AirPlay is much more versatile than Casting.
rob08:I'd love to hear some feedback from users how it works.
Started the AirPlay playback on my iPad (using Spotify) - choosed my Essence.
This is how it looks in the Beomusic app after pushing 'Join' on Beo4 to my V1 in another room.
Note: You can not add it using the app - at least I did not succeed....yet!
Please click the pic - no time for resizing right now ;-(
And this is how it looks on the V1 (untill the screen turns off).
Please notice the little - in the third line.
Maybe that is an indication, that title infos could be added there later on?
The sound is without delay - even if the Essence is wireless and the V1 hardwired.
No hickups or anything so far.
Again - please click the pic ;-(

first of all: i have neither a Deezer nor a Spotify account. my experiences with the BeoMusic app are that way: after start playing an album or a playlist, no matter if directly on the device or from the NAS, i have to let the device on, otherwise the actualisation of the queue won't work and after around five minutes/two tracks or so there will be silent. and having a shiny screen for a couple of hours sucks the battery empty. again: closing the cover of my iPad will end the play of music after a few minutes. this is my great issue with the BeoMusic app, and i checked a lot of the settings, asked the support, have been on the faq's and started a thread in the german forum (no answer besides). so with Airplay the battery lasts at least about five times longer as with B&O's app.
and again: gapless play
plus a third point: navigation is much more comfortable
to me a real joy now!!!
btw: with Apple Music you don't need your music on the device anymore. it is THAT improvement to me in this young year. and, MM, the Avant could be added
This is great news!
Does anyone have an opinion on sound quality from Bluetooth vs AirPlay? I stream most stuff from my iPad. I like that Bluetooth auto connects, but I hear that AirPlay has better quality. I have BeoLab 5s (no losseless, I know go ahead and judge).
My AirPlay and now even Bluetooth are not showing track information over mulltiroom. Was for Bluetooth before the update. Must be a bug.

Alright, that makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to clarify!
@egges
Nowadays I use a dedicated iPad Mini for the Beomusic app (and Spotify).
This is in a dock, so it is always connected to power (shows 100%).
But before and still occasionally I use my main iPad (the one I use all the time for almost anything!) for controlling the Essence.
Starting the playback from within the Beomusic app was and still is not a problem.
I can start it and then use the iPad without thinking about Beomusic. I can put the iPad aside respectively close the lid/the cover without the stream stopping.
I did - just to test it - this afternoon start an album (from my NAS/DLNA) within the Beomusic app, closed the app and closed the lid....and did some 'paper-reading' while listening to the album.
The album played all through without any problems and the Essence turned off a while after it had finished.
Note: I haven't tried playing from the local content, since I have no music stored on the iPad!
sorry, i've to eat my words concerning battery life with the BeoMusic app. flabbergastingly, my phone streams an album since almost an hour from my NAS. this morning, from the iPad it's been interrupted as usual. i'll compare the settings later. anyway, the gaps between the tracks are annoying
'the gaps' is a DLNA issue.
It is possible for a player to play gapless, but you (=B&O) would need some heavy engeneering to establish that - and it would (as a result) limit the combatibility with some DLNA servers.
P.S. Playing music from Spotify Premium is gapless ;-)
When I want to play NAS-material, that I want to hear gapless, I use the LMS (Logitech Media Server) running on my NAS and my good old Squeezebox as playback device. This is connected to the line-in of the Essence and can therefore be distributed on the NL.
P.P.S Do you use an older iPad/older iOS?
Playing from Spotify - a piece of cake... ;-)
Aussie Michael:So with airplay does this mean I can blend my BP A1 with my NL speakers to have them all working together ?
i don't think so, Michael
and, MM, no piece of cake with Deezer! i just started a trial membership today and won't stay: gaps between the tracks!
just tried: Airplay is also distributed via ML/NL converter to my beloved BeoLab 2000 in the bath
I have to say, this must make B&O the most comprehensive multi-room offering on the market now. Outstanding work by B&O and the development team. I just wish it was the same bunch of people developing the BS4 firmware.
Just awesome.
egges: just tried: Airplay is also distributed via ML/NL converter to my beloved BeoLab 2000 in the bath
having my trial weekend i just joined Spotify: gapless indeed, haven't found my album above as you did, MM, and it doesn't work in my bathroom. of course i'll gonna play with Deezer and Spotify the next four weeks i'm sure for now to stay at Apple Music.
thanks again to Struer to make the workarounds redundant
egges: ....haven't found my album above as you did, MM,
....haven't found my album above as you did, MM,
That, indeed was a bit difficult - in the Spotify app I could not either.
But googling 'the artist plus album on Spotify', should help.
Often you get a link, that enables opening 'your wish' directly in the app.
That is how I did it with that album.
to answer your question: none of my iOS devices is older than 4 years and all run the latest software of course. and here i'm listening, gapless, to the belonged studio album above all along my flat except for the bath
