I believe mine still works. Only I use it for Deezer exclusively, have no files stored locally.

Deezer only users should also be impacted, assuming they have favorite songs, albums or playlists. The inner ring should be grey which means that no mood could be associated to Deezer favorite items as the Gracenote link is broken (technically or contractually)

Mikipidia:

hasn't the mood wheel more or less stopped working? There seems to be a whole thread on it.

and I was under the impression the moment doesn't have a bl90 preset either...

I know Miki, I know - I know the whole (sad) story of the BS Moment.

Back then I knew a guy, who was betatesting the Moment, and I had the opportunity to play with it.

And I participated heavily in the discussions on the forum in those early days.

You should not compare these two ‘concepts’ directly.

Let an iPad with AP2 be what it is - it will never come close to what was intended with the BS Moment.

Hardly anyone wants the BS Moment today.

There are other solutions, but they aren’t doing, what B&O had in mind with the Moment back then.

Trying to make the Moment a fully fletched, genuine DLNA player (accessing large NAS-based collections) turned out to be a failure.

And then came the problems with the jukebox/the tablet part hardware.....

Today it suffers by the missing Gracenote support.

But apparently there is hope, that B&O will bring out a new SW and that they are facing the ‘Gracenote problem’....we’ll see!

Here is a link to the original explanation of the BS Moment concept - by Lyle Clarke - from 2015

https://youtu.be/pdCXwuWv0qE

IMO, the right way to use the BS Moment, is to use it as what it was originally intended for...........a music player - basicly founded on a Deezer and a TuneIn subscription - that plays what you like, learning what you like at a given point of the day.

It is a ‘one-touch-music-machine’, which is what a lot of people want!

The iPad/AP2 combo is something else - and the right solution for some people.

Personally I’d also choose an iPad-based solution against the BS Moment concept. But that is because I am an (old fashioned) dedicated album listener, who prefer to choose exactly, what I want to listen to, when I listen - I am not a friend of ‘automated music listening’.

I don’t see a place in the portfolio of B&O for the BS Moment.

Rather I see that B&O could take this concept of simplicity to a next, a higher level in - maybe - some sort of new audio player, a new BeoSound.

I agree with most of your statements, but I would like to comment on the above:

When the Expert mode was introduced, large DLNA libraries management headache disappeared.

The beauty of the Moment is to offer access and control of streaming services content as well as local sources in one single box that has a so peculiar design. The search feature is very efficient when you have large combined libraries (on line and local) libraries, searching/selecting the album/track/playlist you want to play is a no brainer.

MoodWheel may play songs from your large collections you haven’t heard since a while and drives you search for the album and play it at your convenience.

When internet services access are down, yes it happens, you still can play your local source such DLNA or a record deck attached to the Moment, stream wireless to modern speakers , all that without the help of smartphone or a tablet running the app.

With more time, the Moment features could have been amazing as users’ feedback was lately taken into account, it’s a pity they dropped this product.

I think there was/is not enough DLNA users to make this product a success, maybe too complex for some and not enough profit for B&O, but for those like me with large DLNA collection, it is the product I was looking for in a B&O ecosystem. Maybe one day the trend will change and personally owned digital music will be back on the table, like records are these days.

I use iTunes, so all music is available via iTunes Match. I can also use the recommendation for me as well as choose a mood-oriented playlist from Apple Music. On the iPad, I can choose from Spotify, Apple Music and use Siri and Siri shortcuts to easily access any content or service. Not sure how much the Moment costs, but you can get an iPad for $299 and it will give you access to more content. AirPlay 2 is also lossless and plays nice with a wider range of systems - not just B&O.

Since the OP was using an iPad to stream content, my point is that the Moment does not add any real value. OK. I didn't think about the mood wheel (?). Is that all that makes it into an Apples to Pear comparison?

If i want to use the Moment like a BeoSound 5, not connected to the Net and only with music stored in the BeoMaster 5 with embedded covers, it’s OK?

I’m not familiar with the BS/BM 5 but from what I have read, BM 5 can act as DLNA server, so probably the Moment will be able to leverage it.

That said, even if the Moment does not need the net to play DLNA content, it’s user interface is reacher if initial DLNA discovery, and subsequent major collection refreshes, are performed while the net is accessible as the artist’s image shown on the artist’s tiles,

as well as the track moods to be used by the MoodWheel, are fetched from Gracenote .... if it works again in the future. Not to be confused with album covers which are embedded in the tracks stored in the BM5.

Again, pure guessing as I don’t know the BM5
