I have an avant TV and I would like to buy a ultra HD blue ray player but the avant can only receive 8 bit transfer

where as players I have seen are 10 bit does any one know where I can get one please

is it worth it, given the Avant can't do HDR?

Those UHD Blu_rays discs are frightfully expensive still.....

The bigger improvement in picture quality these days comes with the latest TVs being both 4K and HDR capable, but it's the HDR bit that is the real game changer if you will

B&O don't offer any HDR capable TVs at the moment....I have the new BV14, which is 4K but not HDR much like the Avant

So 4K content through Netflix looks pretty good, but it's far from the jaw dropping images you see with the new (well from last year really) 4K HDR sets.....if I had one of those, then the 4K HDR BluRay players make sense

So paying for a 4K HDR player and discs seems a pricey way to get a better but not that much better image....

Anyway didn't mean to put you off by any means. It's just that those with full UHD (4K+HDR) players tend to have TVs that can display the content properly

The better the source, the better the picture on any (almost any) tv.

As Sandyb wrote, the real thing is HDR, but the 4K makes sense too.

If you start investing in a UHD-BR player and UHD-discs now, you are prepared for the future.

And that player can play regular BRD's just like any regular player.

Thanks for all the help but although there are some good uhd b/r players out there they are 10 bit where as the avant is only 8 bit or is that the HDR part you are on about

rumours are that there will be a new screen coming out from LG which is OLG I think,  got that info from beoworld

No, HDR is a separate capability....the new UHD blu ray players and TVs have that ability, the Avant does not....

There are some plus points to getting a new player, some of which have on board Netflix and other streaming services....

Yes the upcoming B&O TVs will be OLED using LG screens, so will certainly be 4K and HDR capable......

So yes getting one of the new players does future proof you I guess, you just won't be seeing anywhere near their full ability with the Avant...

Many of us will be in the same boat - needing to upgrade our screens, if we want to see the big jump in picture quality....personally I'm in no great hurry, to me HDR 4K content is still relatively scarce/ expensive....and regular BluRays still look pretty fantastic to me

Just to your information, johncoomber:

There are several HDR standarts on the market today.

On the current UHD-discs/-players HDR10 is used.

The first discs with support for Dolby Vision (which is another of these) will soon be out  - and the players must and will be updated with support for Dolby Vision.

In order to benefit from HDR - or rather from the different HDR formats - these must be supported by the displays/tv's.

To our luck - in the LG-displays, that will be used in the coming B&O/LG-tv's, all current formats are supported.

The Xbox 360 is user selectable for 8 and 10 bit

You can also download the puc for it from the STB bracket site and you can control it with the BeoRemote One

There is not that much diff in the picture quality but you can tell. The main difference is the sound. It's wayyyy better with the 4K discs

It also has Netflix 4K.

One you get the Xbox you have to download the player app from the Xbox store for free so you can play discs.

I also have the Samsung UHD player but that's been sitting in the cupboard ever since I got the Xbox The reason being is that I can install the Xbox on the back of the avant whereas I couldn't with the Samsung nor control it with the BeoRemote one.
