This could very well be the only reasonable conclusion. So I see no reason for anyone who likes the Eclipse not to just go & buy it, if they find the price acceptable. I personally don't, as it is not a BeoVision anymore (in my opinion).

BAND'OH!:

I will need to buy a TV in the next 6 months when my house renovations are complete and I think I'll be hard pushed paying c£5,000 for an Avant 2014 model or earlier when there are sets like the Sony A1 out there now, let alone what might be available in 6 months. If I do decide to pay 'B&O money' I would get the LG W7 wallpaper TV. Who wouldn't? Let's be serious for a minute, who on earth would buy an Eclipse over that? Some here would perhaps, and if you are one of them (genuinely) then please tell me your reasoning as I am very curious to know how you arrive at this decision.

Actually I have been playing with various scenarios in my head also. For the 55/65 inch screen, I think that Sony A1E will be perhaps best value (If you want to a bit more upscale versus LG B /C) and Loewe BILD 5 /(in particular BILD 7) start to get a bit pricy but if you are considering 77 Inch, Than LG Wall paper  / Loewe 77 becomes a great value proposition compared to Sony (LG Wall paper is just a fantastic concept and Loewe 77 is just more bang for bucks versus Sony in terms of B&Oesq... motorized stand / screen and built in hard drive etc.) and it will be less than Eclipse 65..

Decisions... decisions....

Millemissen:

What if there is a LG C8 in the BVEclipse this time next year?

Yes, there will be a new LG OLED in Eclipse each year.

Expect Eclipse to ship with C8 from sometime next year and C9 the year after.

Thats what B&O told us at the IFA show.

And this do make sense. Since LG is not going to maintain a production of old models, just for one smaller client.

  /Lars

I wrote this with a question mark, because I did not have any confirmation (as you have).

But I was/am pretty sure that this will happen.

Moxxey wrote 'Do people actually *think* things through?'

I actually am very convinced that the B&O guys have thought this through for us.

I don't see it happening, though – the upgrade path. Where would all the Eclipse's C7 TVs go?

...the C7 tv's go?

Sell 'em on Beoworld to people with DIY ambitions ;-))

The question some may have though is can you swap the C8 for a C7 next year?

Don't know the answer - but even then, is there any aftermarket for the C7 that was in the Eclipse?

Can't quite see that there is.

While the Eclipse is modular in its genesis I guess, unless the company explains the upgrade capacity, then I think all this talk of interchangeable panels, whether LG/B&O partnership panels or otherwise, is going off at the deep end a little

The BV Eclipse it is listed as two different items - and you become two packages.

Would be no problem to offer a new version of the LG part - I guess LG (and your dealer) would be happy to sell a new tv part once a year.

Don't deny an amount of upgrading is possible

But as an integral part of the Eclipse offering, I'm sceptical until I hear more from the company on this aspect

I do think it would be a bit more obvious from the presentation of the product if it was a meaningful feature, but time will tell

I ventured down the the Russell Street store in Melbourne today.

They had on display the 65 inch version.. The pictures are something, the actual product looks amazing. the fabric fret looks great, i doubt many will go with the mesh grill..

Sounds great, looks great, its nice and thin, on a motor floor stand, a very nice big B&O TV.

Approximately $22,000AUD plus delivery, a big jump from the LG version, hopefully stores sell a few!

$15k for the 55 plus install and delivery charges

They said if you order with the alu (mesh) grille then they will give you a fabric one until the mesh one is available next year.

I just thought when you moved it it jittered a bit on the stand

No other TV sounds as good though.

TV component is 6250 versus the RRP of the LG c7 on the LG website of 4100 so its a 2k markup - that's not too bad.  The rest is in the sound bar (same price as the screen) and the stand is a bit exxy.

It's just an opinion, but I think B&O has never mentioned anywhere that the panel will be upgradable. I think it's a combination of our and dealer speculation.

The only possibility is that B&O updates the Eclipse with a new panel and then offers this updated panel to existing customers. But, really, would you want to buy one? It won't be LG street price. You're probably looking at a good £4000+ for a panel which is surely only a relatively minor update?

ie. are we seriously discussing a) buying an expensive Eclipse and then b) spending even more on a 2018 panel next year?

This thread has lost the plot :)

I was at a dealer today, who was totting up the parts individually.Screen costs x, speaker costs y, stand etc

I guess the upside is that in say 5-7 years time when 8k or whatever is out, you won't have to reinvest in the speaker and stand again! Unless of course B&O has phased out the designEmbarrassed

No i agree, i was trying to be diplomatic re the issue of upgrading panels - whats the industry average for changing TV's? 5-7 years? Anyone want to place a bet that B&O and LG are still in partnership then?

Yesterday was even worse - oh look, i'm getting all my iTunes library upgraded to 4K HDR!

Er, no...you really aren't....

Do you actually believe that you will be able to update the set in 5 to 7y? No way... No electronics manufacturer had a product that is that future proof. Not now, not 7y ago, not 7y in the future.

Just see where we were 7y ago.. non of that stuff is upgradable to current standards

I guess that a next gen panel will happen in around 18months ("Moore's Law") time with an interim release somewhere in the middle. 1 generation update.. OK.. could happen... but afterwards.. not gonna happen.

Karel.

The sound bar and stand will be though. All B&O would need to do us insist on the size etc to fit surely?

I must admit. Incredible. Insist to a huge manufacturer....in years to come, they "must" create a panel to fit an old sound bar? Really? Insist.

Like insisting to Apple that they should continue with 30 pin connectors to fit the BS8.

Because they are the fee paying customer. Is the panel the Eclipse uses a standard size C7, or one that has been built to fit? At B&Os insistence.

Well, they (B&O and LG) must have made some rules (a contract) on how this can work.

Since LG isn't going to support old models of their OLEDs for Bang & Olufsen alone, there must be some sort of agreement on how to handle the future product updates on LG OLEDs.

B&O said that the next years LG TV's will fit the Eclipse Sound System also.

However, whether or not this require modifications at the B&O end year after year, we don't know. But I would assume that LG has agreed on some sort of a common interface, to handle the connection between the two parties.

True in that there is a partnership with LG rather than B&O just making a sound bar to carry a screen that LG just happen to make.

Much like software development or Spotify contracts?

The LG panel has custom rear components. They aren't going to make drop-in custom swap out panels in years to come for a manufacturer selling small numbers each year.

This is taking positive wishful thinking to another level and now beyond.

Well, the actual connection between the two is just HDMI.

This means it will work with any LG OLED beyond.

But they (LG & B&O) will have to commit to a design for the interconnection, and I believe that they have.

I to ventured to the Russell St Store on the weekend. Spent an hour with the Eclipse. I was impressed. Was it for me? No!

After an investment in 5 speakers within my living room an additional sound bar of this calibre, would be just overkill. Plus my beolab 2 sits comfortably underneath our TV, it can't do that with the Eclipse.

If there was such a thing as an OLED screen on a Beovision 7 stand or the new Avant at a reasonable price it would do fine. It’s what I and maybe others need. Its possible something similar maybe out soon, who knows?

Just some thoughts.

I got one of the first Avant 75's with the SUHD panel - this was in June 2015. Since then they introduced the cut-cost variant, Avant NG, and they have just discontinued that as well. In just approx. 27 months. But I do believe the Eclipse will be around a little longer, but with updates - but not long enough to justify buying a second panel. The total life span of the new Avant was 3 years or so - including the NG versions?

Yes, but the Eclipse panel has custom rear plastic components etc, which is why it's not a case of buying any off-the-shelf LG panel and dropping it in as a replacement.

To be honest, this sounds like ridiculous wishful thinking encouraging potential Eclipse purchases based on the fact you'll be able to "swap your panel for a newer release later on", forgetting:

a) B&O has a modern history of letting us down on stopping support for TV updates sooner than we expected. Or over-promising and under delivering.

b) Subtly changing the design - think BV10 to BV11 (and even then the speaker grille attachment changed) to BV14 in a few years. Who says that the Eclipse design won't subtly change in a year and they drop support for the original?

c) Any replacement 'custom' LG panel is bound to be quite expensive and potentially at least half the price of the Eclipse retail, for very minimal enhancements. Remember, you'll be buying this replacement from B&O, who will mark it up accordingly.

Which is exactly why B&O haven't made any play of this potential feature of the Eclipse.

They are not marketing this as a modular TV - if they did, it deserves some discussion. But they haven't, so it means little.

If your panel is faulty, fine they can just replace that - thats the only difference i can see to the one pice BV's previously.

And again, if you bought an Eclipse today, why would you want to change the panel in the next 3 or 4 years? Maybe beyond that yes, but i wouldn't place any faith that (a) the form factors hasn't changed and (b) the partnership is still alive and kicking.

And it doesn't really solve the "lack of B&O" in the panel, swapping a 17 LG panel for a future one, given their lack of input into the GUI.

I do still hold out some (small) hope that the GUI gets some future treatment....a hope based on nothing of course, just a hope.

No, what I meant was that B&O will have no problems selling Eclipse for the next years, and that they either get displays from LG that fits the Sound Center perfectly, or has some options to modify the Sound Center rear part to fit next years LG C8 and C9 the year after.

If this is true or not we will see. Hopefully they have been realizing that people don't like this Frankenstein experience and mismatching menues etc. if they can tailor it to an optimal B&O setup well then that's a good thing. I believe it when I see it.

And, if the soundbar includes image processing - then it would sell like hot cakes without a panel too. It's not just a soundbar then but a beosystem 5 with speakers and a very tiny form factor compared to older editions.

I'd almost rather prefer to buy one separately. Mount it on a wall and a tv above. Why not also introduce a BeoStand with vesa mount? Would open for a world of ideas. The speaker could be designed as a Beovision 7 speaker.

Maybe that's next. We surely won't see just one TV in the model spectrum from now on right?
