Please try this video on the native Youtube app and see if you can see that the white ball isn't updating correctly when twerking the TM settings.

This video via youtube app on the Eclipse is running smooth from the start. I do not have a reason to adjust settings.

Then my panel has to be a faulty one.
On the Youtube test-video the small white ball leaves stutter behind it. No-one else experience this?

I gues it’s ever so slight, but i have it somewhat. It’s hard to say though if it’s the tv or youtube. Some others at 30fps run perfect and no ghosting that i can see. It may also just be the way the video is uploaded, i actually just checked on my phone, 144hz screen, 165hz screen and 60hz pro screen and the all do that. So it isn’t the tv, so good news, maybe try some more video’s and see if you can still see what you see with this 24fps clip

We have been in a search for a replacement TV to our BV5 in our living room for a while now. Early this year I was really looking forward to the new OLED BeoVision, but when the Eclipse came, it was a real disappointment that the integration with our BS9000 would not be supported with the Eclipse. I have therefore been searching for a preowned BV12-65, BV11-55 or BV14-55 this fall. Buying a preowned BeoVision TV in Norway isn’t easy however - not many BV for sale here. And buying a BV from Denemark or UK could be a challenge wrt VAT, guarantees etc. And lastly now a new challenge occurred: Discontinued Beolink ML/NL, making it hard to have a integrated and usable setup with a preowned BV and our BS9000 plus the BV5 as well...

So - today we took a decision: We ordered the 65” Eclipse with alu front and floor stand + the Beosound Core. So our new setup will be: BV5, BL8000 and the BS Core in our glass house, Eclipse, BL5 and BS9000 in our living room. Core will integrate the two room sound wise. The BS9000 and BV5 will still be connected via ML through the wall. Using a PL switch, we should still be able to use digital input from our BS9000 to the BL5 while the BL5 are connected to the Eclipse.

Looking forward to get the new setup up and running mid January :-).  (A parallel project is to upgrade our projector in the basement - going for a new 4K HDR projector with a 110-120” screen with our current surround setup.)

By going for the Eclipse, we will take the first step into the future app-based (voice) integration setup, and have the dream picture quality in our living room. And at the same time do what we can to support our local B&O store and the B&O brand and company as well.

BV Eclipse 65, BV5, BS Core, BL5, BL8000, BS9000, Beolit 12, A1, A2, P2, H8, H9i, H7, E8

That sounds like a stunning setup you will have. Congrats. Let us know how it all plays out in the end.

Just watched Netflix The Crown in 4K UHD. Stunning picture (but not on a Beovision unfortunately).

Do you have the option “real cinema” on or off? Change that and maybe also try the general powersaving options, i’ve been able to make my eclipse perform almost identically to my 144hz and pro 60hz screen. Iam watching sports now and i can’t see any gohsting

Is it possible for you to post a print screen of all your settings or just write em down? Would really appreciate to get your settings.

One question reg the Eclipse:

We have stored our Hi8/Mini DV video recordings (4:3 format) on a Sony DVD/HDD in our basement, and this is connected to the BV5 and controlled by the BV5 with PUC. When watching these 4:3 recordings on our BV5, the picture first are displayed as 16:9, but then we easily can use the Beo4 to change to 4:3 format (Format+1+left arrow).

My question is: Is it possible to change the picture format to 4:3 on the Eclipse? If this is not possible on the Eclipse, we should plan to pull scart cables from this DVD/HDD unit to the BV5 after we’ve moved this to our glass house, and not connect this device with HDMI to the Eclipse....

I looked, sorry about the delay, my screen in in expert mode bright. Power setting off/minimum. Furter more in expert control and picture options literally everything is set to off. In picture options only black level is auto because you can’t change it. There is slight ghosting, but not bad at all, and only on the very fast moving ball

Do you have the option to turn of real cinema? For me its greyed out.
And do you have True Motion disabled?

Huh, now that you say that, in my regular tv settings i have real cinema off. Once iam in the youtube app i can’t for the same reason as you say.

True motion i have turned off, that for me is the best. It doesn’t give me irratic pixels and only a very slight bit of ghosting. I was watching “Match of the day” on hdtv and the ball once kicked stays almost completely as it would be when not moving. You can even see the stripes on the ball while in flight Stick out tongue

An update from Struer:

By the end of January a road map for future functions will be presented. No new functions to be added in January, only bug fixes. BeoLink Smart Home part 1 was included with the latest release of 2017:

  1. Support for BNR and Network Link commands for use with large A/V-setups via BeoLink Gateway and 3. party control systems
  2. Support for Control4-registration

Hi Martin,

Yes, that is what the sw team working on this confirmed last month - the "part I" is already included in the latest sw release. They will present a roadmap by the end of January for upcoming additions, and then we will get a better view of the future capabilities of the Eclipse.

In general it works well, if you use it as a regular tv you don’t really notice anything in my experience. Softwarewise it’s one of the better new b&o products, probably thanks to in part lg

Hi martin,

Mine has been working fine the whole time really. Never expected it but the tv is a stronger performer than my bl50’s are. I haven’t really had any serious issues with it. If you want to just watch tv it has always worked.

I have a cable card in there, so i don’t use a settop box. That works fine aslong as you don’t want to record something in hd aswell. Then it’s either watch sd and record hd or vice versa. With a settop box that wouldn’t be an issue, but in my perticular setup i didn’t want the cable mess as it was advertised with dual tuner. But for cable it sort of technically has, but not really. It does have a dual tuner for satelite tv, but that’s sh*t here. My intel NUC works fine on it too, no problems there.

One quirk is when you have 2-3-5 extra speakers and you’re watching with just the tv playing(nightime) and you go to guide then everything comes on again because the “tv guide” is an app... and it’s not something you can change again/yet.

Secondly on wisa my bl50’s can loose sync and they echo, but so far nobody can tell me if that is internal to the speakers or the tv. Wired that isn’t a problem.

So in summary it’s been fairly fine so far, no where near a bv14. If anything it’s much closer to how well my bv10-46 worked.

My question to you would be, what are you connecting to it? Speakers, boxes etc?

Hi Mikipedia,

I am connecting Beolab 5 as frontspeakers and Beolab 3 as rear speakers. I am also considering to sell my Beosound 5 and my two Beolab 3500 in two different linkrooms. I am thinking of going "all in" with the new NL-system. Therfore I am considering buying two Beoplay A6 as linkspeakers in the two rooms were I today have the Beolab 3500.

Do You think this setup with an Eclipse with Labs 5 and 3 in main room and Beoplay A6 in linkrooms will work well? I will not use WISA but I will use Wifi for A6 speakers and Cable for internet to the Beovision Eclipse.

I have today a Beovision 7-55 Mark II which I are very pleased with. The PQ on this TV is very good.

A question to You: Do you think it is a wise decision to trade in my BV 7-55 MKII and buy an 65-Eclipse? Or should I stay with the 7-55 because it is maybe the best Tv B&O ever built. How should I think about this?

Best Regards

Martin

Hi martin,

That setup sounds very good to me. On the multi front, i personally don’t use it as i just blast the bl50’s louder Stick out tongue i can say that de eclipse is very responsive to the app, commands are almost immidiate, not really any noticable delay.

The question about replacing the the bv7-55 is a hard one and very personal imo.

What will you do with your bs9000? As of yet it doesn’t play nice with the eclipse and what i’ve heard it’s not meant to ever do that. I was looking in to getting one for myself, but basicly my dealer told me to not bother.

How old is your bv7? Do you find the screen too small? Do you watch many dvd’s/bluerays as you do have the option now? Do you like your current remote?

One thing i found is that i don’t feel the beoremote one is on par with the beo4 for feel and ergonomics somehow. It’s much more capable and pretty for sure, but its the small things i gues. Like volume/channel up down feel te wrong way round to me. Turning on the tv is now two button presses. On the beo4 volume was unmissable and turning on the tv was 1 press. And yes curtains back then... iam already on my second beoremote one atm, the first one lasted me about 3 months, wich is probably a fluke but the buttons feel less solid to me. It is also too light imo and not flat enough on the bottom. If the screen of the remote hangs off the table and you press any buttom, it rocks and almost falls. Never had that with the beo4, even if most of it was hanging over an edge. The beoremote one needs to be on a flat surface in it’s entirity. Sorry to turn this into a remote “rant” but make sure you like the remote too, as that is the thing you’ll be holding the most.

I have a hard time swaying you either way to this decision, i made mine because i came from a bv10-46 that was 15 years old i think and getting slightly iffy. So the longgevity came in to play and i wanted the bl50’s. So basicly for me one thing led to another, and this is what i ended up with. Do you love your bv7? And if so, do you love the look of the eclipse? What’s your reasoning for change, the desire for new things or is something not working propperly anymore?

Hi Mikipedia,

First of all - I am not using my BS9000 today because of faulty laser, so this is not a problem.

I use my TV today mostly looking at Netflix series and not so much movies. It is very seldom today that I put an Bluray movie in the the blurayplayer. I have maybe seen 3 bluraymovies last yearAngry.

I agree regarding the Beoremote that I also like the old Beo4-remote more than the new remote.

My Beovision 7-55 Mark II is 5,5 years old and I love it. The TV has no software glitches and the PQ is excellent in every way. Every peace in my setup (BV 7-55, Beolab 5, Beosound 5 and Auralic Aries) works perfect today with no software glithces. This is the reason why I hesitate to go "all-in" with Eclipse and linkroom speakers (Beoplay A6). As you see in my setup I also have the old Beolab 3500 in two linkrooms and Beolink Gateway that makes me control all my Masterlink products with Beolink APP. This works also perfect today.

My question to You is: Do you think 5,5 years is making my BV 7-55 "old" and big risk for hardware faults? The screen hours is 5.200.

Best Regards
Martin

Hi martin,

In my personal experience with the “older” b&o stuff, i would say: no your tv is not old.

Depending on usage i would expect it to last about another 5 years or more. With the pre-“smart” b&o products i always sort of take the line that they last about 25 years, but after 15 they will start to need small repairs and such. All of this is depending on usage, but my bl1’s lasted 15ish years before i noticed any change same with the bv10. The repair things where very minor, but i didn’t want to deal with them(also parts availability). So 10-15 years is a rule of thumb to me, plus the remaining value. I could’ve lasted another few years iam sure, but then the value was gone.

Have you gotten any trade in offers for the things you would trade in? You’re probably over the hump of big depreciation, so you’re probably good there but it’s a bit market specific. Bv7’s sell fairly quickly here but i don’t know what they do over there in resale.

If you like new things, i totally get that, i do too. That in and of itself can be enough reason. Hdr on the netflix app looks fantastic and the picture quality is outstanding, all be it a bit more fiddly. The eclipse is so far a good tv, but not great yet, and is still slightly dependand on updates for a while.

So i gues my conclusion for you would be they you don’t have a “need” yet for upgrading since you like what you have and it all works well. However if you really want it, then i would say Go for it! Most of my recent unhappyness hasn’t come from my eclipse but from my bl50’s if you look back in the forum. The eclipse may not be a true beovision, but it’s a darn good tv when you compare it to anything post bv7/bv11.

@Mikipedia, your BV10-46 wasn’t 15 years old, this model was unveiled in April 2010 !

Hello,

Please forgive me if the question has already been treated but: I own a Beovison Avant (old one with cathodic screen). Between brackets, even though picture is a lot better on new screens, the sound of this still "buries" nearly any new TV on the market.

Precisely: I have a wired link (since 2003) allowing me to listen to TV or my B&O Hi-fi (Beogram 5000 etc.) from my bathroom, kitchen etc.

My dealer told me that if I would buy an Eclipse, I could lose this functionality, or that I should « choose » between having TV sound and Hi-fi sound.

As far as you know :

-          Can I still profit from this functionality if I buy an Eclipse ?

-          If no, is it part of the upgrade which is announced ?

Thanks a lot for your answer

Oeps, sorry, my bad. I either missrembered or miswrote. Anywho the picture quality or function wasn’t the issue. There was a tick in the right rear channel when i changed volume up or down, but not when playing or anytime else. The PQ and usage overall was still fine, that was the only snag. The bl1’s and bl2 where from 2001 deffinately

I think what your dealer told you is correct. And as far as i’ve been told anything that is not network link will not work anytime soon/if at all. I was told that if i wanted to use a bs9000 for instance i would need to connect the aux into the eclipse, then on the eclipse go to aux input, and control the bs9000 manually. So it wouldn’t be very integrated at all. I don’t think they’ll do much backwards compatibility anymore besides speakers, unfortunately.

Hi Martin,

From a analytic perspective, you should keep your existing setup.  If it's not broken, why fix it?  Let the Eclipse mature and/or maybe there's a new TV around the corner that is more to your liking.  I also think it's fair to say that wireless NL will never be as rock solid as wired ML (This is an issue with wireless vs wired, not NL vs. ML), and 5.5 years is not really that old.  Yes, it's old if you look at TV technology in general, but as long as it is working for you with respect to PQ and content, then who needs the new stuff.  I guess this doesn't consider the trade in value of your current BV, but in the US there's generally no aftermarket for BVs so this never works into my consideration.

Then comes the emotions... my wife and I happen to think the Eclipse is stunning and solved a challenging placement issue in a very elegant way so we took a deep breath and put in an order.  It is scheduled for delivery next week (but then our BV8 was broken).  I will be leaving "behind" a bunch of ML equipment (i.e. will not be integrated with the Eclipse), but we rarely used the ML integration with the TV.

Good luck,

Stan

Just check and yes my bv10-46 was from 2010, so it was 7 years old and still doing it’s think, with just that minor thing going on. Iam sure it would’ve lasted another few years(2-3)

@Martin: We are about to replace our 14 year old BV5 with an Eclipse 65 (next Friday :-) ) - although the BV5 will still be used in another room together with our BL8000. So your 5 year “old” BV7-55 is as good as new to me. BV7 even have HDMI inputs - which the BV5 doesn’t have (the main reason for replacing it in our living room!)

BV Eclipse 65, BV5, BS Core, BL5, BL8000, BS9000, Beolit 12, A1, A2, P2, H8, H9i, H7, E8

the Eclipse will not get the ability "connected sources". But this does not means that if one has a BS9000-BLC connected in ones NL setup one cannot join this source with the Eclipse. So it is still possible to use ML products with the Eclipse

Thanks a lot for these great answers. So, if I understand (forgive me not to have your skills about B&O products !), I will not be able to manage sources thanks to Eclipse software (connected sources), but pressing my Link button on the wall (or TV on my remote control) could still make it possible to get the sound in other rooms and set volume level? It is, for me, a main advantage of B&O installations...

Thanks a lot and have an excellent weekend
