Its not that hard, but requires some software capability, which they have been not good at.

Voice control i think makes the task easier.

It would be nice if any sound centre, by the time it is suggested to come in 2019, will be HDMI 2.1 capable. Not relevant now of course, but by late 2019 i imagine we will start to see 2.1 equipped hardware. Anyway, just a wish for future proofing to some degree.

it might be possible to make a ‘new Sound Center’ to use with any 3rd party tv (which has ARC etc....).

If this is true, I am thrilled. Would love to add B&O Sound Center to my Loewe Set up. Loved the sound from B&O Sound Center from Eclipse and have been hoping against hope that B&O will offer their sound Center as stand alone offering.

If you have any influence on them, please ask them to offer the rotating stand also in addition to the sound Center and then we can add whatever OLED screen fancies us.

We "haters" have been asking for this from day 1.

I guess you noticed my ‘but’, which was important in this case!

If it was so easy, why didn’t they do that right away?

Why did they have to use ‘modified LG tv’s’ - and not just some from stock?

MM

Negative hat back on - because they get to charge a huge premium for supplying the tv!

Wow, you took a simple question and turned it into a self absorbed, indignant, hissy fit, bless your little heart! You are pretty worthless to discus things with as all you want to do is try and put on a hair coat and whine about how no one takes you seriously. Well, say something deserving! I and most others find your bit tedious.

For example, more than a few months ago you were saying you definitely were going to buy an Eclipse, even gave a general time frame that's long passed. When it was mentioned that, given how fast B&O was dropping dealers in the US, you'd be lucky if he was still in business, to which you replied you had full confidence in the "pro partner" approach and would be buying from them if required.

Fast forward, and you fly off the handle when I ask you did you get one and how did pro partnering work out. You could have said, no, you haven't bought one either yet or ever and offered an explanation, maybe your Beovision whatever still looks good to you, maybe you don't want to spend the money, whatever, maybe you wanted to wait a bit and see if it got a new panel or to make sure some upgrades were in. But apparently sharing info is too much to ask. You could have take a few lines to state that your dealer is still around an apparently doing fine (which would be a Yay! moment given the pile of the slain dealers we've seen), or if you'd learned more about pro-partners.

Really, grow a sack of self confidence and just deal with it all, as it is you've become a whiner.

Jeff

Beovirus victim, it's gotten to be too much to list!

Of course your entire “response” is predicated on a false fact, yet again proving my point. At no point did I ever say I would “definitely” be buying an Eclipse. You appear to be an expert at fabricating facts to support angry tirades that you wish to engage in.

Enough guys.

Lets not descend into he said, she said ( i know, i've been guilty here too!)

The Eclipse debate is the same today as it was a year ago - strong specs, less of a BV feel. Its a change from the past - some are comfortable with it, some not. I understand both points of view.

Its not worthy of all this heat - that should be reserved for the Android BV's which were a true disaster.

Well, Raz my boy, I'm not about to get into a silly game of he said she said with you. If I was wrong, all you would have needed to do was say "I never said I was definitely buying one" without all the histrionics. Not that I think I am wrong, you do tend to have an imprecise conversational style, Captain Pedantic.

All this heat should be reserved for something important, like the World Cup or who has the best beach babes or food.

One of the problem with TVs in the modern age is that they have become total commodities, same for much of consumer electronics, not much is truly aspirational anymore. With TVs this is partly due to the fact that video sources and tech have gotten so good, I think a lot of the old issues for custom video processing, due to a lot of VHS tape and SD sources having to be massaged to make them look good, have more or less vanished, though there can be issues with motion processing and such. Same with audio, when you find that mildly lossily compressed audio sounds the same as unprocessed audio for all but extreme cases, it makes a lot of the arguments for ever more fanatical and low level changes kind of silly, orienting your wires relatively to the earth's magnetic field seems pretty pointless if you can't reliably tell an AAC encoded file from a WAV one. It does make it harder for a company like B&O to make a truly aspirational product, The fact that this is all occurring at the same time B&O is suffering management and personnel problems we all have come to know about just makes it all the more difficult.

Hi Jeff

Agree with you on overall basis but even in this time of ever improving basic stuff, there are ways for truly innovative companies to come out with differentiated products.

Along with Home based system, I am also a portable sound fan and have to say that what company like SONY have done in that space (With very premium pricing) on the Walkmans 1A & 1Z and their headphones (1Z) is truly remarkable. They have in fact remade their business in premium segment in a world drowning in cheap players and IPods.

Giving in to competitive pressures and then follow into mediocrity is sure way to a downward spiral.

You make excellent points, it can be done, but the way B&O has been doing it has death spiral written all over it. One thing I give credit to Sony for is they pick a technology and truly get behind it, if it fails, they walk away but are still willing to take a risk.

Broadly agree of course, and i think most understand the bigger picture shifts.

That they haven't made a better fist of trying is of course disappointing.

Could they have remained competitive with respect to maintaining their video processing capability? Who knows. That area isnt quite commodified yet, as Sony's X1 Extreme has shown, but i concede the differences aren't huge.

Broader design trends have worked against them though - televisions as glass rectangles leaves little scope, and less physical media also undermines their edge.

The other advantage they had in terms of multi- room and home control and automation is also going to completely disappear for obvious reasons.

I dont have much sympathy for the structural defenders of B&O - i get the loyalty aspect, thats to be admired.

We all have i'm sure lovely setups with plenty of B&O stuff working harmoniously - the issue / question with all these back and forth is that if we all started from scratch with zero, B&O's current offering wouldn't be able to replicate everything we have - some specs might be better of course, but we'd all lose out in terms of design classicism, timelessness, seamless interoperability.

I suspect if we're being honest with ourselves, we'd end up with less new B&O stuff than we had just thrown away in my start from scratch scenarios.

Havent completely given up hope they can offer some interesting products, but have to be realistic.

That - exactly - is the reason, why we can not predict, what may come from Struer/B&O.

I am looking forward to what may come for us (or some of us).

It has been suggested to them to make a premium portable player like Oppo, Sony, Pioneer and others do.

Not quite sure its a big enough market - others may have different views, and it would be a nice product in the portfolio for B&O i guess.

I'd still like a more fully featured and modern Moment like device, there are some cool things you can do with it.

But they won't - the Moment wasn't EOL'd for component reasons. Pretty sure Lyle made this point on the forum, pointing towards broader consumer preferences for using phones / tablets etc.

Unless they go all in on building strong software, and their own front ends, i suspect the future for controlling B&O devices is voice (using Alexa, GA, Siri) supplemented by the app if required. Its what i have been told is the strategic direction.

Which leaves the company making a bunch of audio products that can be used together, or mix and matched with other brands and controlled via a 3rd party voice protocol, or the app itself.

I dont mind that outcome actually - as long as a TV can be integrated into that speaker ecosystem.

Its not my preferred outcome, as i like the ways things work now (remotes are quick) - but i accept its the way the industry is moving.

Well MM, what you postulate, a speaker maker primarily, wouldn't be a bad conclusion, albeit not exactly what we might like truth be told, but a solid technical approach and business case could be made for it. However, making that decision, preferably before wasting time, money, and reputation with what they have been doing would have taken a manager with true courage and deep insights. The try and keep both feet in different markets that are going in different directions because you're either too afraid to change or because you've drunk your own bathwater and are fully in Candide mode, "all is for the best, in this, the best of all possible worlds," is a disaster.

I have a genuine question - with the exception of the new plastic back, just how "stock" is the C7 TV used for the Eclipse?

For example - are B&O menus added as an overlay to the hmdi arc stream within the Soundcentre or are they in the TV firmware?

Someone mentioned the other day that they can connect to the Eclipse using the LG phone app - are any of the missing features or updates available when accessed by app rather than B&O remote?

I ask because I want to know what eclipse functionality can actually still be achieved with a new sound centre design for use with a generic (or selected from a limited range) of 3rd party, off the shelf tv's using HDMI arc. etc

Ban boring signatures!

Oh it’s stock, it’s very stock.

I can’t tell much of a difference between the two, other than the shitty, inresponsive plastic remote.

And yes, i can connect to the panel using the LG remote app. But I’m not really sure wich updates/features you’re missing out on, other than the Tecnicolor & motion processing, wich as i described in an earlier post, makes absolutely zero difference (in real life ussage that is, i haven’t measured the difference) only thing is that i saved a pro calibration on my bedroom C7.

I don’t think any hardware has been added/modded. As far as hdmi connections go, you can controle connected devices with your BR1, but only via HDMI CEC, not PUC.

I got shot down a couple of months ago, when i posted my thoughts about B&O’s tv future heading in a direction where a Soundcentre connected to any LG OLED via HDMI.

Hello Everyone,

I've been following this thread for almost a year and i'm finally replacing my BV7-40 for an Eclipse 55.

I remember reading that some of you war experiencing issues with the Playstation pro  and the Dolby Vision with Apple Tv 4K.

He's it solve by now ?

Also someone recommended the Belkin fast speed HDMI cable , is it still the one to buy.

I apologize but even with the keywords search i couldn't find the answer.

Thanks in advance.

An Eclipse made after medio February is sorted out wrt 4K 50-60 Hz.

Any high quality / speed HDMI cable should work fine - check out this link or simply search the net for cables available.

Does anyone knows when the 04.70.90 update for the C7 panel will arrive to the Eclipse? Getting tired of the true motion. Much better in the latest release from LG.

For those wanting to know if this has been incorporated in their sound centre:

To get the newer hardware version of the Eclipse with improved HDMI 4k Dolby Vision / HDR support, you need to supply

BeoVision Eclipse SoundCenters produced after mid-February 2018, with serial number higher than 55” 29528201, and 65” 29303824.

I got the same feedback from my dealer. Does this mean that the serial numbers below the mentioned numbers should not have any HDMI 4K Dolby Vision/HDR issues? Or does this mean they will keep limited support?

My Beovision 55" has a serial number below the mentioned number and does give problems when I setup the apple tv to automatic mode. But it does work fine if I put the appleTV settings to 4K, 50Hz, Chroma 4:2:0 and switch to Dolby Vision after that. If I select any higher modes the system is not reliable (picture lost occasionally). Any other experiences on this for serial numbers below the mentioned ones?

So I've been on standby for a new Eclipse for a while now. I told my dealer I was only interested in the model with the newer 2018 screen. After months of waiting he said they were now delivering the new screens and we set up an installation date. When the screen was delivered to the dealer I asked him to check it was a C8. He took a photo of the B&O label on the outside of the box: "OLED65C7BO" so clearly not a C8 screen. Installation cancelled. Now he says that it is unknown when the new screens will come.

Can anybody here say whether they have received a C8 screen yet? In either 55 or 65 size?

Copied from the thread of my review of Eclipse on FlatpanelsDK, where I have written the following:
There has been some speculation about the possibility of upgrading Eclipse with a newer panel or that
Eclipse should be updated from the B & Os page to include a 2018 panel. From a reliable source we have that
Eclipse will not be updated neither this year nor next year. The cost of letting LG rebuild a new one model to fit
in Eclipse both hardware and software is simply too big for it to pay themselves. In addition, it is estimated that
the changes from C7 to C8 are too small to make the user a significant partIt (our own tests confirm the marginal
improvement). B & O must have secured a sufficiently large amount of money Lot C7 to continue into next year.
