Yeah, it's a center channel experiment. The drivers are pulled from my second pair of M70s, and I'm going to see if I can get something to sound OK with the M70s in a home theater application.
Experiment will be with boxes and crossover configurations. It'll be interesting to see what the 4" cone drivers (phase links) can do in different box sizes and types.
That will be a tough project (but fun)! I would imagine getting a lot of lower range SPL will be difficult with (what I presume is) such a low xMax driver.
Looking forward to your thread
Beo4 'til I die!
Nice Evan! Have fun with it.
Too long to list....

Welcome to the shop table where we are about to change this BeoMaster over from UK power to US power
First things first. Check and see if the schematic envelope is still there!
Shoot, looks like I missed it.
I will be changing out the entire cord just like I did on Mr. 4000. So the first thing you will have to look out for when doing the same thing is the strain relief. The screws thread directly into the plastic bit so be careful when reassembling.
Oh my. It seems a lot of dust has accumulated over the years. Will have to take care of that!
Looks like B&O were kind enough to provide soldering iron access!
The new cord installed.
Next on the list is to re-tighten the strain relief and dial back the transformer.
Success!!! It powers on Time to take it home and set it up for a listen!
Oops. Rich won't like this pic. Its not on and playing in the pic
I wired up my S45-2s and started playing with the tuner first. It was struggling to come back to life at first. At first it was barely managing two channels and I was getting disappointed thinking that I would have to wait even longer to enjoy this BeoMaster.
Next I switched to the BG3404. I had stereo, I think. It was very quiet, no phono amp (or it is not functioning). Next source.
I grabbed my trusty ole 5th gen iPod and a lead. Selected Florence+The Machine and hit play. Ladies and Gentlemen, my jaw literally dropped!!! What I heard is some of the silkiest, smoothest and richest playback I've ever heard. EVAR.
During the entire morning I questioned my sanity and my level of 'awakeness' from last night when I did this. Thinking that I had to just be overjoyed to finally hear it play something.
I decided to come back to the house after class and listen. And listen and listen some more. I've also been listening while posting this thread and I can safely say that my above thoughts were bang on. This thing is INCREDIBLE!
Do any of the Beomaster 1000 owners out there have similar opinions about the sound? I'm very curious to know.
Through my handful of hours listening in the past couple of days, I have noticed the bass is quite heavy in this amp. That is to say that a modern song that is loaded with bass from the start seems unaturally loud in the lower frequencies. When I played tracks off of my Supertramp album, everything seemed very even. Clearly, the BM1000 was designed for a different tone!
Regardless, it is hghly impressive. I plan on grabbing my BeoVox 2600s from home and seeing what the 60's really sounded like!
Also a 'Q' to all of the techies on here: Does the BM1000 run full class A all the time? Heat pours out of every vent and grate on this receiver and that has me wondering. Not to mention the brilliant, smooth sound!

Hi Evan,
What did that for me was my Beolab/Beomaster 5000 combo. Still does it every time I switch it on!
Jacques
Okay, found a scruffy one for €10 in the local ads... Mmmm...

I remember reading those posts of yours after you acquired the 5000 components, they were indeed similar to mine regarding the 1000.
If a 1000 is this good, I can't imagine what a BeoLab 5000 sounds like!

You have no idea...
Currently listening to my ReVox G36 (1967) on the Beolab 5000 of the same vintage.
Also great with the Beogram 4000 and Soundsmith cartridge, although my Grail is a Beogram/Thorens TD124 with the long arm...
The CD50 sounds good too, but it is hopelessly anachronic!
Amazing, and where's the progress I wonder.

If you intend to use the springs i the pic for the switches, I can tell you on sight, they are a little too big
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
Can we get a a pic after TLC, I would like to see the caps on the PCB.
If you saw my thread about the Bvox 1600, you know I had more or less the same experience, amazing different sound, I must get an BM 1000 again, I had one back in the 1970, and as far as I can remember it did send out some heat, more than hand warm, and the dealer told me not stack my BG 1000 or anything else on it, always keeping the vents free. Friggin BeoVirus, will it ever stop.
Søren Mexico: Friggin BeoVirus, will it ever stop.

Ahem... Guess not! or is it ?
You can add me to the 'Master 1000 owner club.
I'd love to see the cleaned version too Evan!
Getting late here... Night!
That Beomaster 1000 is definitely cute! I would like one too if I had space for it
@Chartz: I took a Revox B77 HS 2-track home yesterday and is stunned about the solidness (is that even a word?) of the mechanics and sound quality. This is absolutely not going to be my last Revox/Studer deck!
Vinyl records, cassettes, open reel, valve amplifiers and film photography.

I will get you guys a clean interior pic as soon as I take one, I forgot to take an 'after' shot
For now I'll tell you I just used the best resource I had available - compressed air. I blew air in and across the open unit and most of it came out. There is still a layer of fine dust/dirt hanging on.

I haven't been able to read your thread - I can barely even keep up with you and your projects, even as an observer!
I will be utilizing the heat from this machine in the coming months, it is a great space heater

Doesn't look to bad, use brush and Hoover, the blow air blows the sh1t into all switches.

We will have to petition Lee to make us our own subforum
Night Jacques!
Søren Hammer:I had space for it
The funny thing is, you probably do have space for it, as far as BeoMasters go, this one is tiny!
Søren Hammer: solidness (is that even a word?)
Now that I've pasted it into this reply, Google Chrome hasn't marked it as wrong, you are in the clear sir! In my line of work, that would be called 'overbuilt'!
Evan:The funny thing is, you probably do have space for it, as far as BeoMasters go, this one is tiny!
You could even stack it on a BG 1000, but you will have to lift it a little to put on a record

To make the process a little easier, one could fasten the lid of the BeoGram to the bottom of the 1000!
