The last update to the app seems to have broken a bunch of things.  I can no longer find my DLNA server (Twonky on a Mac Pro) which my Moment has no trouble with (never thought I'd say that!) and I am unable to play from Apple Music for more than a few minutes before the song gets cut off.  Either one of those issues on their own wouldn't be a big issue, but to have both really sucks.

Is this Version 1.2? (I haven't updated the B&O application, and won't, for the foreseeable future if upon every version update, there are issues which cripple usability)

@Seethroughyou: We do not support the BeoMusic app anymore. You should be able to change the volume just fine on the core? Please write me directly, then I can try to help you. Native control for the BNL90 is coming into the app soon

Sorry, I said Beomusic App when what I should have said is the Bang & Olufsen app. Yes, I have only an optical Toslink between the Core and BL90 - the volume now works just fine. You have also fixed the button to get you back out of the Playlist Queue. Having BL90 native control in this app would be the icing on the cake. You should also look at reducing the number of menus - there’s still a lot tapping in and out of menus and backwards and forwards - there’s still more magic to be achieved in this software. Try to see what other manufacturers apps are like. Keep up the hard work, it’s very much appreciated and lifts the hardware and physical products to full potential when the software works beautifully.

.

Present: BL90, Core, BL6000, CD7000, Beogram 7000, Essence Remote.

Past: BL1, BL2, BL8000, BS9000, BL5, BC2, BS5, BV5, BV4-50, Beosystem 3, BL3, DVD1, Beoremote 4, Moment.

I’ve been beta testing the B&O app for a couple of weeks now and it’s certainly moving in the right direction. There are a few enhancements that I think would make a huge advantage and add to the overall user experience.

 Home Screen

I agree with Millemissen, the white looks unfinished (too much like Bose SoundTouch!) but the option to choose black or white would be good.

The product pictures on the homepage are great if your system consists of BeoLab 18’s, 50’s, a few BeoSound 2’s or you’re a dealer, but pretty un-attractive if like me, you have mostly BeoSound Cores!

To have the option of replacing the product pictures on the homepage with personalised ones from your photo album, such as a picture of your sitting room, kitchen, dungeon, family members or just a plain background.

The ability to see what is playing in each room from the homepage, and which rooms are linked together. A small overlay on each room tile with the current song along with a small image of the album art or radio station would be good along with a standby button for each room. When clicking on the relevant room tile on the homepage would take you to the ‘Now Playing’ screen for the that room

The ability group/link rooms by dragging the room you wish to link or join onto the master room on the homepage

I would also offer the option to remove the ‘pop up’ that appears when pressing the standby button that asks you if you’re that you want to put all of your products in standby, I find it annoying.

Now Playing Screen

This looks great, very stylish. A standby button for that room would be useful without having to open up the sub menu.

A Useful Addition

As a point of interest I’ve been using a couple of Yamaha WXC 50 MusicCast pre-amplifiers in the studio over the past few months, with some Beolab 4000 & 6000 speakers.

The MusicCast app also has an optional but unique function where you can allocate four customised pre-sets from a pop up sidebar, which can be different on each I-pad.

Holding your finger on the tab for 5 seconds can program each pre-set, and the tab can be renamed.

Whatever is currently playing such as a playlist or radio station, whichever rooms are linked and the current volume in each room is stored in the relevant pre-set.

I have one that is labelled ‘Morning Music ’ which plays from a Deezer playlist in the office at volume 20 and the studio at volume 40.

Although the MusicCast app lacks visual style, it does offer some great functionality, and some optional advanced features that allow the more experienced user to customise, it may be worth taking a look.

Keep up the good work,

Paul

I noticed that playing content from my NAS using the new app/Essence was almost gapless.

This is very important, if you listen to live/concept albums (and unfortunately not common to most DLNA renderers).

Anyone experienced the same?

Agree.

It serves the following song really quick.

I’ve also noticed the -almost- gapless playback, nice improvement compared to every previous B&O DLNA players!

I’ve got a very annoying bug which is still on the release candidate (just released) : I cannot navigate in a song using the timebar in DLNA : anytime I navigate in a section of the timebar, the music is stopped and I can only put the product to standby and restart to be able to lay music again.

Are you sure it happens for DLNA tracks? I have the issue with Deezer tracks on the Moment (reported to B&O) but not with DLNA.

What happens is that the music stops for the duration of the jump and resumes after, try moving 30 seconds forward and you should have a 30 sec gap without music befor it resumes.

Hi Thomas,

When I use the B&O app for a system which comprises a Core connected via optical to a BL50.

How is the volume control then done?

Core set to fixed level out and volume control in the BL50.

Do I then need to switch screens between Core and BL50 to control volume or control tracks etc?

Or

Core set to volume controlled out and BL50 set to ????

What does B&O recommend for the system comprising of

B&O App BeoSound Core -optical- BeoLab 50

OK, so now I have a Core on loan. Connected the Core via Optical to the BL50.

BL50 and Core can communicate on 96KHz via optical.

When the Core optical out volume control is enabled then the BL50 wake up but there is no sound from the BL50.

When the Core optical out volume control is disabled then the BL50 wake up and there is sound from the BL50.

This means that for the volume control you then need to switch to the BL50 part of the app. This takes too much time each time. Maybe this is solved in the new app update?

Also now the Essence remote wheelie cannot be used to control the Core - BL50 volume.

Not a perfect solution yet.

Hi Tomas,

If the BeoSound Core is connected via optical to the BL50, then the B&O App should in the Core screen sync the volume/mute setting with the BL50.

Regarding the BL50 and the Core

When you attach a Core with Power Link or a TV with Wireless Power Link then it is the source that controls the volume not the speakers. When the next version arrives we will make it easier to see which product is controlling the volume in the UI

Hi Thomas

Yes, the app is now working with my iPhone X.

When I updated few days ago something strange happened. One of the rooms was gone and is now "integrated" with a V1 TV ?? I can see the room in Products, but it is gone in the Home page

What happened here ??

WPL makes the BL50 single source.

PL is already used for the BV connection.

I want to use the Core as a digital source for the BL50.

Therefore the Optical connection between the Core and the BL50

Hi Thomas,

If you are planning/working on improving the B&O app usability and support for the configuration

BeoSound Core - optical - BL50

Then I volunteer as beta tester.

Hi Thomas

Forget this question...I got it myself..

The new software for Essence, Core etc support a new function where the TV can use the speakers ...one of my TV's was setup to have integration with another room.

I changed this and now everything is fine.

Hi Thomas

Have installed the new released app version.

Some feedback:

When I am in the Core home screen (volume and album cover) and I tap the lower left icon I get a list of all devices.

If I tap another device I go to their home screen.

But for BL50 this does not work.

Suggestion: if I tap the BL50 in the choice list then I want to go to the BL50 home screen with the volume and presets.

Hi Thomas

Here some ideas for coming release on the Bang & Olufsen App.

1. On the Home screen. If you press a product now you come into product information. It would be nice if there was an option in configuration, so you could choose what happens if you press the products 1) Product Information (as today) or 2) Go to the volume control for that product (for me this is much more needed in daily use)

2. Re-arrange the products in Home screen. Some products are used more often than other, so they must be first on the list (today it is arranged alphabetic).

3. On the Home screen. The products have different spaces - som small squares and other big squares. I suggest that you can decide yourself in the configuration how this grid should be. Special on the iPad version one square on my is half the page - if I could choose small squares I could have all products on one page

4. On the Music screen. I would like to able to re-arrange the section. I would like to have my own playlists on top as well as my favorite albums. etc

Thanks for considering this in coming realses

Hilsen Rudi

To 2 and 3 - I’d second that, it would be nice to be able to do this.

P.S. 2 - You can easily rename the product. It might be a workaround for now.

P.S. 3 - Why use these pictures of the products? Why not use the same icon there, that you get when you ‘open’ the product (tapping the arrow right side buttom).

And please, on a black background (or at least black as an option).

This would make the UI look much ‘cleaner’.

hi all,

my main Problem is, wenn you once share a Beolink Converter NL/ML in a Mulitroom-Setting I have no possibility to change the Volume for it. Do I play the Music only on the BLC you can change it. Do I somethings wrong?

For me the Points 1 and 2 mentioned above are also the most relevant for a next update.

Hi Thomas

The Deezer app supports to see the last played albums or playlists on top.

The B&O app now always shows the albums and playlists in alphabetical order.

It would be nice if one can choose for sorting one time basis, like most recently added on top, or most recently played on top.

@the app team ;-)

The fat white tile around the radio logos are disturbing.....

.....for the look of the app in a rather dimmed room and it somehow takes too much focus from the other elements in the app ui.

It could be smaller - or perhaps gray, some gray tone (which I personly would prefer).

N.B. Not a good picture - taken with an iPad, but I guess you get my point.

Agreed - the white backgrounds in general make the app look unfinished.

Apple Music use white, but there's plenty of colour everywhere on top, so it doesn't look so "unfinished".

But still, Tidal and Spotify use back back grounds - looks infinitely better.

I guess it depends on the station logo more than anything else.

It seems that all the stations I listen to have white backgrounds.

By the way, you can create a screenshot by pressing the „off“ button and the home button simultaneously.

I sure know that.

But that was not what I wanted.

I have an iPad (Mini) that is dedicated for the Bang & Olufsen app (and Spotify).

It stays on all the time, when I am listening.

That is what I wanted to show.

The ‘problem’ probably isn’t that big when you just use the app on a mobile phone - and also just on and off - for controlling the app.

(This thread is about the iPad support of the app)

Never the less, I guess you will admit that the ui - like Sandbyb also noted - seems unfinished for that part.

My post was meant to be an inspiration for the app team to look at the overall design of the ui.

I guess there are still some things to improve.

This - as an example - is a ui design, that I like - slick and informative, but not candylike.

Hi Thomas

I have a Essence2 integrated with an Avant2014.

When I am watching TV on the Avant and I select the Avant as device in the app and then I select Radio in the app then select a radio station nothing happens.

I would have expected the Avant to switch to the internet radio station via the integrated essence.

Folks,

Would love to see alphabetical indexing for artists and albums for DLNA. Hard to use this app without it if you have 1000's of albums.

Thanks

‘Alphabetical indexing’ is a matter of the software running on the NAS/PC.

What a lot of us miss, is some sort of alphabetical search on the app, when we access the DLNA content.

Hopefully the app team will ‘listen’ - and find a way, that fits well with the overall interface.

Not sure about this statement. Sesam Music for example can quickly build its index, sorts the albums alphabetically and provides a quick jump ruler:

I guess B&O can implement such features without huge development.

Dear Bang & Olufsen App-Developers, dear Thomas Andersen,

at first thank you very much for your perseverance to make the App better and more intuitive. Alltough I like your atempt in this current version to bring finally some order into the Deezer-favorite Albums category, I have to say, that I don‘t like the result. Now I have a alphabetical order of the album-titles, but still no alphabetical order of the artists. It is really annoying , that your customers are still forced to scroll and search „like hell“. Usually I know the artist I want to listen to - and usually I don‘t know the exact name of the album I meant to start. I think most costumers don‘t know the exact title of the albums they had liked too. Therefore they, (including me) are asking, demanding, begging since months that your will finally hear them. Please give us a alphabetical artist-order for the said favorite album Deezer-category. It should not be difficult, since you are now able to sort the album by his title. The line seems already programmed and should be altered only. I wrote this, months ago, to Mr. Andersen and he replied that this demand is heard loudly and will be implemented shortly - it seems that this announcement/promise is difficult to keep. May I ask why? The Deezer-App is able to present a alphabetical order of artists, your own BS-Moment is able to do that - maybe since this device is now anounced EOL, maybe the old team can lend a hand to your team again.

Best Regards Beroli
