Hi, just announced on facebook, updates H8i and H9i, i only scanned the information quickly but the ‘dual connectivity’ is something that many people where missing.

Also: Transparency mode, where your surroundings are amplified, better mileage from the same battery, and a new bass port. That’s all I could find from a quick scan. I compared H9 and H9i.

Oh yeah, and I forgot: Proximity sensor for automatic play/pause when you take them on/off.

Where did you read about dual connectivity? Couldn’t find that. Does that mean multipoint pairing, so it switches automatically between your mac, iPhone and iPad? I have to manually pair my H9 each time I switch between devices, so that would be a welcome upgrade.

Are we sure about the 'same' battery? So long as those remain the same, I think i'll remain happy with my existing H8's H9's... although dual connectivity would be cool... need more details i guess.

After the fiasco of the E 8s, there is NO WAY I will trust B&O the way I used to and blindly buy.

Sorry B&O, you sure have screwed up.

I’m still a diehard fan, but you must win back my trust

Don't know if it's actually the same battery. Fair point. I just noticed that the battery of the H9i has the same capacity (770 mAh) and charging time (2.5 hours) as the battery of the H9. I see from a picture that the battery slot on the headphones are differently designed, though. So I suppose the form factor may have changed.

One thing I've noticed from the photos on the Beoplay website is it looks like they've taken away the the removable/user replaceable battery which for a £450 pair of headphones is a dealbreaker for me :(

If you look at the H9i product page on beoplay.com, and press the "battery" vertical panel, you see a picture of the H9i with the battery compartment partly open. Still looks user replaceable. However, the battery compartment no longer has a door along the edge of the earpad, like the H9. Instead, the entire aluminum disc that faces outward seems to be removable.

Yeah I noticed that when I took a second look (hence the follow-up post) - it wasn’t immediately obvious in the photos and the tech specs at the bottom don’t mention user replaceable (whereas the H9’s tech specs says it) haha

Hi Henrik,

Dual device connectivity is mentioned in the facebook post.

Thanks! I must be the only person alive not on Facebook. Big Smile

Strangely omitted from the product page, though. Not even in the tech specs listings. Makes you wonder what other “secret” new features might await casual mention in some post.

More features, new design, but also a cost reduction in mind, I see : there is one articulation that disappeared, with it's big metallic arm. Its gives a simpler look, but maybe the comfort will be lowered...

+1

Stopped using it around 6-9 months ago.

Much better ways to waste time than clicking on FB.

Indeed. Clicking on Beoworld for example.

Beautiful! I have used the last hour to return my H9 to the (non-B&O) store, for a full refund. Turns out it fell within the return policy. Then I went for a talk with my local B&O store. Seems like I will get my H9i wednesday, one week from now. Looking forward to it! Big Smile

Lucky you, Henrik!

I actually got a notice e-mail about the new cans.... not really a FB guy.

Also, BeoPlay shows price point to be the same as the old models... at least here in the US.

Yeah it’s the same here thankfully - was half expecting a price increase before I saw the price since they’ve put the price of the E8, H5, A1 etc up recently (in the UK at least)

I think they actually lowered the price, H8 used to be 499.

what bugs me is that they still seem to deliver the crappy pouch. My H8 actually broke in my backpack and while you can easily get a hardcase on amazon most are way to big and not very nice.

In Norway as well, the price remains unchanged.

I agree that the pouch is a joke. No protection at all, except maybe from scratches. For those that remember, Beoplay did a collaboration with Hard Graft a few years back (2013/2014, I think) that resulted in a very good stiff leather pouch/case for the H6. I still have mine, use it every day, and heartily recommend it if you can get one on ebay. I used it with H9 as well, so I know that it will fit my H9i. Too bad you can’t get them new anymore. It is the pouch/case that should have shipped with H9. Expensive though.

Edit: There it is! Big Smile

https://m.ebay.com/itm/Hard-graft-peak-headphone-case/192393951177?hash=item2ccb92b7c9:g:m3MAAOSwiBJaLiKZ

Edit again: My mistake. You *can* still buy them new, on hardgraft.com. It just seems like they removed every mention of the B&O/Beoplay brands. But the pictures are still there.

You can connect your H8i wirelessly with two devices at the same time, and with a range of more than 31 meters, you can stream music further from your device without interruptions.

Hope it's true for H9i also since the blog is about H9i even though the text state's h8i.

I doubt there can be functionality differences between H8i and H9i : they surely share the same electronics, otherwise that would be a questionable design regarding costs...

Have the new H9i also Bluetooth 4.2 with aptX Low Latency? Like the H9?

On the Beoplay site stays only Bluetooth 4.2.

I use this it is excellent. It has room for all your connectors inside and you use it as a headphone stand when not travelling. Top quality design and construction, perfect for B&O. They have several items for other B&O products too.

The caseplay looks very noce but why is it so thick? 8 cm is a lot which bothers me with all the amazon cases as well.

But all that aside, B&O should provide someing suitable, they did have a decent case with the H3 which I recently started using again

Just picked up my new H9i in colour «natural». Out in the streets now, testing. First: These are gorgeous! The H9 were really, really good, but these are... what is it called... a significant upgrade. Big Smile More than I hoped for. Seems to be everything the H9 should have been. Soundwise, featurewise and designwise. I’m a bit euphoric and possibly slightly biased right now. I’ll write some more impressions later, on a proper keyboard. Right now I’m busy listening to music. Big Smile
