Andrew,

Is the firmware on your Essence up to date?  I went through a period of almost a year where the Essence remotes were practically useless.  Problems exactly as you describe: after re-pairing, the volume would work, but pressing a button would end communication until a new pairing.

Last fall (I think) a newer version of firmware was released which fixed all the problems with the Bluetooth connection.  My remotes work perfectly now.

Sources: 2x Beosound Moment • 4x Beosound Essence Mk II
Speakers: 3x Beolab 8000 • 2x Beolab 6000 • 2x Beolab 3 • 3x Beolab 2
Integrated:  1x Beosound 2 • 1x Beosound Level • 4x BeoPlay M5 • 1x BeoPlay A6
Control:  16x* Essence Remote  • 1x Beoremote Halo

* Yes, really! 🤦‍♂️

Alex,

should I update the remote or the main unit? Can you pls advise on the procedure?

the firmware I have is 28/2/2018 so it is the last one.

Any other thoughts?

thanks

My behaviour is not quite like yours.

My volume and track skip worked.

Then I did pause / stop.

After that my volume did not work but start, track skip, and pause did work.

Like you my version was automatically updated at the end of February ...

And after having my dinner I came back to the system that I had put into standby ... pressed “start”/“resume” on the remote and the Essence rejoined the BeoLink which at that point was sharing the BV’s audio.

Volume also worked on the remote and I could observe it on the App.

And on switching to Deezer allowed me to adjust volumes and skip ahead ...

And “pause” ...

And “resume” ...

And switch sources (back to BV) ...

And adjust volume ...

And switch source TuneIn) ...

And adjust volume ...

And switch source (BV8) and again (Deezer)

And adjust volume ...

So I think my pre-dinner test did work.

I think when I thought I had lost volume control I was dealing with a soft track and I did not rotate the wheel far enough to hear the change — sorry 😐

Also if I had been monitoring via the App (as I did this time) I would have been better able to track subtle changes via its UI.

I hope that clears things up a little and helps you along your way.

One thing to think about also is... the batteries !

I found my remote very sensitive to the batteries power. A little bit too low and you believe it still works, but alas, the power is only sufficient to light the LEDs, not to send a signal, or just one time.

My 0.02€

I couldn’t believe it but it was because of batteries.

thanks so much for your help. The new software update works perfectly.

Ah ah Big Smile

I remember how I felt Geeked discovering the batteries issue, just after exchanging messages about remote pairing problems with Beocare...

Last question...how can I stand by the essence and the speakers from the remote?

from the app is quite simple and the speakers disconnect automatically after 2-3 sec, but from the remote? If I mute the speakers keep on

thanks

Try a long press on stop, if I remember well...
