Hi guys,

At the moment in my 'cinema' room I've a quartet of lab 5's (and some 17's) playing with an Avant (first gen).

I've gotten a super upgrade deal from my dealer to replace the two 'front' Lab 5's with 50's.

Anyone have any experience with mixing 50's into a surround setup? Should I add a core for stereo music too?

TIA!

Stephen

Some speakers will be room compensated, others won't. To get the best soud from BL50 you have to use the high latency mode and that could give you problems with lip sync.

If your TV has a lipsync adjustment, then you'll be fine.

Connected to a recent BV you leave the bl50’s on auto so the BV decides. Works well for me and they are in sync with my rear bl18’s. If i set them to anything but auto they’ll be out of sync. Imo you could do radio over the BV avant and just set it to 4 speakers if you make that speaker group, that’s what i do with my eclipse. Only quirk about that is that is that i’ve had to set my bl18 rears as their respective front speakers because most radio doesn’t have sound mixed in for “rear” stereo speakers, but that may be different on a gen 1 avant. So ask your dealer for your specific setup, they should know Big Smile

that’ll be an insane setup though and i think i can speak for all of us that we would like some pictures Stick out tongue

I certainly would consider this!

There are (at least) two ways of connecting a BS Core to the BL50’s.

For one you could set it up as a integrated NL device of the BV Avant.

This would give you instant access to some of the sources of the Core (by using the BeoRemote One),

You can assign these sources to a Speaker Group consisting of the two BL50’s (including your choice of Preset for them/high latency mode etc).

The BL50’s would then be connected via PL (or WPL) to your Avant.

That would be the ‘easy-to-handle-way’ of doing it.

One drawback however, the tv will have to turn on for this!

Alternatively you could connect the output of the BS Core directly to the Coax-in of the BL50 combo - just like you would with any ‘ordinary’ external device.

See the User Guide for this - including managing priority of the external sources.

This way you can use the BL50’s without having to turn on the tv.

But....you would basicly have to use the Bang & Olufsen app for controlling (the sources of) the BS Core.

I am pretty sure you will adore these speakers - you won’t miss your (front) BL5’s ;-)

However, to explore the full potential of the BL50 you will have to learn how to use them.

Much more possibilities there than with the BL5s.

Thanks all!

the BeoLab 50's and a core are being installed on the 10th April next, and configured so they are the front left/right of with the Avant, but also as a pair with the core for music. Can't wait!!

Will post a pic once they are in :)

Thanks :)

My main 'worry' now is that the sound processing in the Avant (for the more recent) format's can be a little bit rough around the edges, and there is of course no HDR or atmos, etc, support at all :)

Hopefully B&O will give us a nice LG 77 with all the bells soon!

Do you mean this year’s LGs (eg C8?) and their latest CPU will have the power/ speed to process HDR / ATMOS ?

Rumour or Fact ?

As for Atmos (I guess we are talking sound here) - yes the new 2018/LG’s will be able to bitstream Atmos.

However that won’t help us much since there is no current SoundCenter with support for Atmos and probably nothing coming soon.

By the way - did you know, that the LG’s only support Atmos encoded in Dolby Digital Plus, not in Dolby TrueHD - so no lossless sound format there!

Have a look here for the 2018/LG’s:
