Agreed about the banter, e.g. the butterfly-hands, and "what I just watched [again]".  But not 3 hours.  BBC Midlands used to run "Top Gear" in just 30 minutes!  Admittedly, if @Miki had to do a video editor's job as well, that would take hours&hours, and put the kibosh on the whole thing...

Next edition (notice I didn't say "next week"), I'd like to hear Willie "translate" from that annual report above: "Drive brand awareness across all touchpoints through improved content creation, localised go-to- market approach and insights-driven activities."  WTF...  Certain to be hilarious.  Might even make as much sense if turned literally word-for-word into Slovenian.

B&O on Group revenue: "The Q4 revenue was negatively impacted by a one-off effect of the Beoplay Earsets. In addition, unhealthy retail inventory levels impacted demand from monobrand stores, and thereby demand for Staged products, including TVs. Also, demand from the multibrand network was adversely impacted by large inventories at retail level. Furthermore, the slower-than-planned transformation of the monobrand and multibrand distribution channel setup had a negative impact on revenue."

B&O on gross margine: "The gross margin was negatively impacted by the one-off effect of the Beoplay Earsets. Excluding the effects of Beoplay Earsets, all product categories delivered a higher gross margin. The gross margin from Brand Partnering & Other Activities improved, predominantly because Brand Partnering represented a larger share of the segment following the decline in revenue from the lower-margin aluminium production for third parties.

Also B&O "The all-new Earset E8 2.0. A perfect accomplishment for all your travel adventures #upgradeyourjourney"

Hi guys,

I shall take it all under advisement. We go longer sometimes because we genuinely like talking to one another. It’s a B&O focussed show, so it’s badically the main topic, but we extend out from there as it’s a big impact on all our lives. We’d like to keep it interesting but that’s somewhat subjective so that’s why I keep asking for topics and or suggestions. Also with the product/setup help part, we’d love to help and I think between all of us we can probably make anything work, but again we have to know what you’re doing or want to do. We can’t mind read (yet)Stick out tongue.

Also, B&O doesn’t make it very easy on us with this tiny trickle of products to keep on talking about the same products over and over again. However I do hope the soundbar discussion was atleast somewhat interesting/useful?

I do appreciate all the input and feedback, it helps us steer towards common goals, so thank you all for that. And I shall try to get back to making a highlight reel.

In the end of the day day we’re 4 guys that are B&O enthusiast talking about life with b&o. We’re not a B&O infomercial(unless B&O would like to sponsor us???Big Smile) or techsupport at the core of the show, but we could/can be if you guys have the questions for us to talk about.

Like I tend to always say, it’s a community effort!

Sandyb:

More or less agreed, though a bit of structure, focus would elevate it.

Mike does a great job, and always asks for questions / topics to discuss, thou doesn't always get any responses. Having Henryk, John and occasionally Steve on has already helped moved things forward (no disrespect meant to the original gang of three!).

I'm sure there are loads of questions, issues people have in mind they could forward in advance.

Also, and I appreciate not everyone wants to do this, but sending in pictures of your setup would be great. I think many would love to see how people have set up, placed, configured and use their B&O infrastructure.I It was a really good segment when they guys have shown set=ups that have been sent in. I'd encourage others to do so, with the aforementioned caveat in mind.

I would both love more questions and or topic suggestions and we also loved showing off the stuff you guys rock at home and see how everybody does their own thing with B&O. I thought it was a great topic, but I can't pull it out of thin air Stick out tongue

Have a question for you about the 50s.....maybe it is a podcast topic or maybe something you could just answer for me. My 50s arrived this week. I have them set up and working with my Core and my BV7. The tweeters are rising and falling in perfect synchrony with each other. The microphone and the grills got lost in transit so I do not yet have those.

My question is, I thought there was an option to set the 50s to Beolab 5 mode. I do not see that in the app? Perhaps it is only available if the microphone is attached? Also, in the Core settings I have volume set to non regulated and thus am using the 50s portion of the app for volume control. (I don’t know how anyone could listen to 90s, or 50s, with the volume at 90lol)

I was thinking of connecting an ir eye to the 50s to use for volume control when using the Core. Any thoughts, comments, advice on that? Which eye is needed? I have several old ir eyes including one I purchased for my Essence.

Hopefully one of them will work.

Thanks!

Core is connected by optical to BL50s. If I set volume to regulated in the app, have to turn volume up all the way in Core portion of app then using BL50 portion of app volume is still not as loud as with unregulated.

When listening to Beosound 5, then volume is controlled through the BV7.

If I run the Core through the BV7as suggested in the podcast, then I would lose the ability to select 50s as connected speakers via the Core as can’t select them in the BV7, wouldn’t I?

Hi Razlaw,

Maybe you can play with the settings on the 50's and see if you have a min/max setting. Also is there a way to bump the db on the core? I don't have one here anymore so I can't check it.

with regards to the bv7, I think your right, you're standard set up would start playing and not just the 50's.

as for the bl5 mode,go to product settings - configure - preset - ... - > - advanced - parametric EQ - load values - select the Beolab 5 Sound Design and press load and you'll have them do their thing and you're good to go.

I didn't want to mention it earlier, but since others have brought up the issue of the length of the podcast, I might as well chime in. I stopped watching the podcast long ago just because I couldn't devote three hours a week to watching it. I've enjoyed your podcast very much, but I've wished it could be shorter.

It's seems to be down to 2 these days, though I concede that even that is on the long side.

Again, Mike puts in the hard work, it's his gig, but it would really help if more people posted questions in advance or sent in pictures of their set up, which is a cool segment

Michael

Thanks!  If I set the Core to regulated, and turn the volume all the way up in the app, and then turn the volume all the way up on the 50s in the app, I would guess the volume only reaches around the equivalent of 50.  Not that I want 90.  With the Core set to non regulated (box unchecked in the app) I have the 50s set to a default turn on volume of 22 and a maximum volume of 64. Gives me the range I want. Also, is not very difficult to adjust in the app. After I select a piece of music, I press the product icon and it takes me right to the 50s volume. It works very well.

What my concern was about connecting the Core to the TV, is that the 50s would not perform to their full ability. In the app, it is possible to select the type of speakers connected. Thus the Core knows it is sending a signal to the 50s. The BV7 does not have 50s in the menu, only 5s, so I was thinking that passing the Core's signal through the BV7 would mean the 50s received a signal designed for 5s, instead of 50s?

Having said that, I also have a Beosound 5 and BS3000 connected to the BV7 by Masterlink. I can thus select N. Music or N. Radio and of course the system then only activates the two 50s and have full Beoremote 1 control and they sound wonderful, even the BV7 thinks they are 5s.

Thanks for the instructions on loading Beolab 5 values!

Also, for what it is worth, I don't think you need to change a thing with the podcast. The amount of time you devote too it is amazing.

Thanks Mikipidia. I posted a lengthier reply, but it also went to moderation..LOL Must have used the numerical version of fifty and five too often. I need to learn to copy my longer posts before I submit so I do not have to retype them. Or perhaps because I quoted your post, it got sent to moderation again, just as when you posted it.

Given the problems with our posts going to moderation, and you having to post multiple times, I am going to reply to you post again...and in shorter posts hoping to avoid moderation.

Thank you for the directions on setting the Beolab 5 mode. Have it set now.

I also have the speakers connected to a Beosound 5 by Masterlink to the BV7. N. Music and N. Radio work perfectly with full control with the Beoremote 1.

My concern with connecting the Core to the television as opposed to directly to the 50s, is that I would lose the ability for the source to know that it is connected to 50s. The Core allows me to choose 50s but the Beovision only has 5s in it. If I run the Core through the 7, wouldn't I lose the benefit of being able to select 50s in the Core as the TV would output for 5s?

Having said that, the 50s sound great playing from the Beosound 5 through the BV7, even if the BV7 is sending a signal for 5s. Thinking about it, there may be little if any difference between the signals sent if 5 is selected or 50.

Using the app for the Core and speakers for volume control as I have it set up, works easier than it sounds. I select a piece of music, and then instead of hitting the icon to open up the Core volume screen, I hit products and it takes me right to the 50 volume selector. If I set the Core to regulated volume, I have to turn it up all the way and turn the 50 volume selector all the way up to get the volume to approximately the equivalent of 50. With the Core set to non regulated, I have the default volume set at 22 and max volume at 64 which gives me the range I like. Any louder than 64 is getting too loud for me. The Technical Sound guide does mention that if a source has a volume control, it should be disabled, and if there is a choice between volume regulated or fixed, fixed should be selected, so I think I have it set up as intended.

Thank you so much for all of you assistance and information you have provided. And thank you for the podcasts. Don't change a thing. You devote a huge amount of time to them and they are great just as they are.

oh that's what you meant by that. Yes you'd loose the 50's as speaker designation, although I am unsure how much that would actually matter. When you set the 50's to the 5 setting it's not like they sound exactly like the 5's. They reproduce the EQ sure and will have a much warmer and different sound design, but it's not the same. The 5 mode is also called the party mode, as it thumps so much and even more than the 5's, so good times Stick out tongue best way to say it is that it's an approximation of the 5's, not a copy.

Maybe ask you dealer if they can upload the speaker to the sys3. Iam sure some one out there will have a 4-103(or similar) and have 50's or 90's now and they most likely have the system upgraded to suit the new speaker.

I would like a Harmony, but 77 inches is too big. Maybe if a 65 becomes available. It would be much easier to hide cables than with an Eclipse. I do not need, but do like, the swivel function.

Hey Michael,

Nice to read, that you are back. Hope you had a nice vacation.

I am struggling with some questions, but some will follow at a different stage in the future.

Anyhow there is one thing I am curious about.

If you had to compare the older, classical speakers to the modern ones, mainly soundwise. How would you rate them. Is a Beolab 6000, like a beolit 17? Can a set of 8000’s compete with the 18th, ore rather an beoplay A9? Is the sound of the 17’s better than the sound of a Beolab 1 or is a lab one + two/nineteen combination still better? How about a Beolab 3500? As it was often used in kitchens, does the beoplay M5 smash the 3500 sound and connection wise? What about a lab 4000?

I hope you get the idea of my question. I would like to know, how good, or not, a classic speaker setup is compared to the fresh stuff.

Is it just between beoplay and classic b&o, or still as good, as a low entry b&o speaker nowadays? As you know, I have a set of lab ones and would like to know, where they belong. Hope you get my idea :-/

I have missed your podcast and I’m looking forward to rewatch it afterwards!

Hi Miki

Some of ‘us’ had a nice visit to Struer yesterday.

Nice to see that they are very much alive at the factory - and nice to refresh your memories in the Museum.

Maybe someone else has more pictures?
