Went into my local B&O dealer recently to buy one of these:

They didn't have one, but somehow we managed to leave having bought a pair of these:

Damn them and their Jedi mind tricks!!

Sorry Karel, but there is no Bluetooth receiver in a BeoLab 90. You'll have to supply an external one.

MMm OK... See there I got the mixup... If you look at the webpage of the BL90... there's a Bluetooth icon at the bottom... but it's for the Core...

Anyway... small joke from my side...

But that was always the corporate strategy...... tempt people into the brand with beoplay, then slowly but surely let them upgrade to full Bang & Olufsen. WinkWinkWink

I've actually gone the other way - always been a B&O owner but the A1 was only my second dip into the Beoplay range!

Actually, that is exactly how I (with a friend) carried a pair of BeoLab 90's (albeit one at a time). You wear a leather harness that looks a bit like a steampunk parachute. This is attached to straps that attach to temporary hardware at the bottom of the BL90. Two reasonably healthy persons can walk a BeoLab 90 into a house with it's "leather strap" relatively simply.

Well, I've probably kept you hanging long enough, so to expand on things I shall add that these are probably the best loudspeakers I have ever heard - and I've heard a few! The only ones that might possibly beat them were a design made by a German company I heard about 10 years ago that were 7 feet tall and cost £215,000 per pair (the ADAM Audio OSS in case anyone's interested). However, they only made one pair and they wouldn't fit throught the door into my lounge anyway, so it's irrelevant!

I am truly hearing things through the Beolab 90s that I have never heard before. I was playing a compilation CD on the BS9000 through them at the weekend as I attempted to do some work but I kept having to stop and listen to things in the back of the tracks that I had not picked up on before. Even more remarkably, they somehow manage to make dull recordings brighter and more open, but hard, splashy recordings smoother and more palatable - it's witchcraft I tell you!

Their imagery is nothing short of astonishing and they don't need to be cranked up at all to really generate a realistic sense of scale and depth. On the other hand, if you do crank them up, they go scarily loud without any sense of strain. Even better, ours are either side of French doors into the garden and, in 'omni' mode everything can be heard clearly outside with barely any extra volume required. With my old, normal speakers, a suitable level to hear things outside would mean the old sash windows at the other end of the room vibrating along in sympathy!

Even better, there is still more to come. They were ex-demo models and the dealer forgot to include the calibration microphone with them, so they are not yet EQ'd to our room - this will be coming soon along with a new bass driver for one speaker, which the lovely chaps who did the installation spotted was de-laminating slightly.

Downsides? Well, they confirm something I have long suspected, which is that the BS9000 has a little bit of hardness across the upper mid/lower treble  - the Beolab 8000s appear to smooth this out nicely. Also, it would be nice to be able to preset the volume switch-on setting for each input separately. The speaker volume is controlled by the BS9000 via Powerlink but I also have a turntable plugged in through the XLR inputs and an A/V receiver through the phonos. With each of these, you have to open up the B&O app and manually move them to maximum volume each time you switch on, which is a bit of a faff, particularly as the app isnt the swiftest to respond. I could set the 'all inputs' preset volume to maximum, but I know one day I'll forget when playing a CD and probably deafen myself and anyone within a half mile radius. Alternatively, I could just buy a BeoRemote One I suppose...

In summary, though - we're thrilled. If you can scrape the money together to buy a pair - do it. I promise you with all my heart, you will not regret it.

Just a little final update - our de-laminated woofer has been replaced and I have now run the room calibration setup.

I didn't think the 90s could possibly get any better but they have. Imagery is utterly astounding and absolutely pin-sharp, and a slight 'thinness' across the upper bass is now gone.

I am happy. Very, very happy! Big Smile

Thrilled for you Adam. So good to hear about a current B&O product giving you so much satisfaction. Congrats to Geoff Martin and all the team at B&O for producing what seems to be a very successful product for the company. Long may this kind of product development continue. Simon :)

B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.
11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.

I found the service skate too wide for most UK Doors and lifts. Also, lifting straps can impact on the triangle edge if not packed with foam. Also, humping these babes upstairs (done two house moves - so I should know) is a real pain as it requires three pax minimum within a tight space. I'm seriously thinking of making a custom frame that will protect the sides and give good handling purchase.

10/10 for sound

10/10 for design

  2/10 for manoeuvrability and handling

The whole album is - as everything, that Jennifer Warnes has made - excellent.

The top-most demoed track in a B&O store probably is her ‘Bird on a Wire’ from the album ‘Fanous Blue Raincoat’.

She has just released a new album ‘Another Time, Another Place’, by the way.

Congrats Adam! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I do have a slight feeling though that you had a tiny tiny desire, extremely deep inside of course, to have those speakers.

Before that salesman so rudely ”pushed” them on you!

Shame on him for forcing you to buy something so horribly beautiful and poor sounding! 😂😉

I truly hope that you can manage to live with this shame of an installment in your home. 🥂🍾🎩
