@poodleboy: Done. :)
Hi I am also seeking the software upgrade for the Essence mk1, pretty please....
cheers
Gary
Done.
liviu_o:@TWG: can you send it to me too, please?
Great to hear.
As a newbee here and new to the B&O (Essence) world, but using streaming service a lot, I have the same problem here. Strangely TuneIN worked with firmware v1.1928551...... as well as with v1.22.3661........ But last week I received v1.22.38750..... and it stopped working!
Forget to turn off auto update :(
Something else I noticed: if you log off from your TuneIN account (in the B&O Essence app, under Product Settings / Configuration / Your Content / TuneIN), it starts working again. But then you get a kind of default TuneIN radio list.....starting with Kulturradio, next Deep House Lounge, etc.
The moment you log in again, TuneIN stops playing.
It reminds me of a change in protocol TuneIN stations a while ago. Older stations still use HTTP, but newer / commercial stations mostly use HTTPS. My car with built-in TuneIN App also stopped playing from one day to another (without any error or warning). Might this be the case here also?
Ok, if TWG would be so kind to send me older firmware that I can try, I would be happy to try it, thx!
In addition: I now made a new, empty TuneIN test account on the tuneIN website and then configured this also in the B&O Essence app...........and guess what.........this logged in TuneIN account just seems to work.
Strange that my other account (with all of my favourite stations) does not seem to work (anymore) on the B&O Essence (it works on my mobile, laptop, in the car, etc).
Strange behaviour......maybe there is a way to copy all my favourites to my new TuneIN account?

What station is this? Me and others can try if that station is playable on our config.
Razlaw:Venice Classic, thanks!
I just checked using the TuneIn app on my Tibo (the iPhone app for it), Venice Classic Radio works. Nice, they're playing harp music right now. So, thanks for the roundabout recommendation! I hadn't found this one yet.
Jeff
I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
BS Moment, BS Core, BG 4002, BC 4500, BS1, BL18, BL19, BL8000 + RCV1, A6, M5, M3, A1, P6 (tks Botty), H5, TR1
mbolo01:I added it to my favorites, while I could play it with the TuneIn app, I could not play it on my M3 or BS 1. The radio appears correctly in the favorite radio list via the B&O app, but when trying to play it, after several attempts, the next favorite radio is played instead. BS Moment, BS Core, BG 4002, BC 4500, BS1, BL18, BL19, BL8000 + RCV1, A6, M5, M3, A1, P6 (tks Botty), H5, TR1
Ok, added Venice Classics to my favourites and.......it ouf course plays on the mobile phone tuneIN app, on the Web (using Chrome) but.....not on the B&O Essence....it tries, but then skips to the next available station. No error or whatsoever. Tried it also in my car (MB with COMAND NTG 5*5) and there the built-in TuneIN app also refuses to play this station.
Given the problems I had before with some (commercial) stations, it might have to do with another protocol (HTTPS insetad of HTTP?) or another codec that is being used by this station and that is not supported by all TuneIN implementations?
Commercial stations like Radio 538 Dance Department and Radio 10 Disco Classics use HTTPS and are now working both in my car and in the B&O Essence. It is strange that on the latter it only works on a new, test (TuneIN) account. It refuses to play any station on my "normal" TuneIN account (reproducable by logging out and in via the B&O config).
@TWG: thx for sending the firmware, will try to see if this fixes my "account" problem, but apparantly it also works on the latest FW (on a new account).
There is a workaround you can use (I tested it):
1 - Open the TUNEIN App
2 - Go to Favorites (heart icon)
3 - Move to the bottom of your favorites and click on ADD CUSTOM URL (or equivalent)
4 - Add the following URL: http://s01.toksyna.fm:8060/; in the search box, this is the URL for Venice Classic Radio Italia in AAC format as found in http://fmstream.org
5 - When the URL is resolved by the app search, it will appear below the search box
6 - Click on the resolved URL which will start the radio
7 - Mark the now playing radio as favorite by pressing the heart icon and provide a name for it, it will be added to your TuneIn favorites that you can organize.
8 - After a while, the radio will appear in your B&O App as favorite.
Note: There is no radio icon but a generic one
Great tip, and much better quality audio streams anyway as it seems!
My Android app refuses to rename it, but ok, maybe that works on Chrome or other way.
[UPDATE: the WIndows TuneIN app or in Chrome does not allow to add any custom URL.....let alone to rename an existing favourite. There it is possible to organize favourites in Maps, but don't know how this effects playback in other clients, including car and Essence...........]
In my car only the normal Venice station shows up as favourite, not the manually added one.....maybe this takes a while? Will test the Essence later when I am there again.
BTW, is there a way to show a TuneIN favourites list in the B&O app? I see only a way to forward or go back 1 station from your list (but no way to have an overview, like in the TuneIN app itself) or to re-order the list in any way.....?
[UPDATE: re-ordering favourites seems not possible in the TuneIN app, but can happily can be done from the browser: https://help.tunein.com/how-can-i-change-the-order-of-my-favorites-r17mecC5uwM ]
Here some interesting info about the TuneIN requirements for playing correctly:
https://help.tunein.com/why-is-my-streaming-url-not-accepted-BkOmg50c_vM
But as said, implementation can be (completely) different on different software platforms (Android and possible also iOS seem the most versatile, Windows, Chrome, several audio brands and different car vendors each might have their own issues.

Thanks! Re-ordering indeed seems to work in the browser/web front-end (but not in the W10 or Android App):

Thx, on the web interface menu you find Settings, and then Country, Max Playtime, Beolink, Panel Control, Control4, Store Mode and Reset, so no Radio setting.
Under Your Content, you find the TuneIN settings, but only thing you can do there is Login or Logout.
In the Android App similar, so no entry to show or re-order Radio (TuneIN) favorites I can find, but maybe I am looking the wrong way?
BTW: the manually added AAC stream van Venice Radio works on the Essence! Now find I way to rename the station (not possible on W10, Chrome or Android app).
Merci
It seems that the Android app has less possibilities in configuring TuneIN. On the main screen, I see a + and a Profile button, below is a picture of the Essence, if you click on that you can configure a lot, but not the Favourites (and also not the other 3 options shown in your picture).
Pity, but ok.
Oops, sorry, double post....
HAWK:Profile button,
This is the Settings button (B&O changed from cogwheel icon to profile icon which I think is not appropriate, but that's life)
Behind you have Radio and Customize
Under the Profile button in the Android app it shows:
- Account (with my email adres)
- Products => there is the Essence => there is Configure => then you see the same as in the Webinterface of the Essence (so you can login and out of TuneIN, but not configure Favourites, etc)
- BeoLink
- Support
- Push messages
- Proximity sensor
- About
So I am afraid the Android app lacks this.......
Merci anyway!

mbolo01: Go to Beolink and activate it, you should then see Music and Radio items

Ah, there it is, thx!
As a newbee, I did not activated Beolink yet, but now I did and there indeed all the options appear (Products, Multiroom, Music and Radio). From there it was easy (needed to login in TuneIN again, apparantly different than how I was logged in TuneIN already via the same B&O app / web UI).
The favourites are there, and for the rest same behaviour as before (but more easy to jump to other stations than only sequentially).
(of course a third way is to use TuneIN app on your smartphone and stream via Chromecast built-in, and fourth way to do the same but use Bluetooth strraming )
Thx again!
HAWK:Thx again!
Parfait! Enjoy
Hi,
would you be able to share the Essence MK1 update file with me?
I have the same issues as described & I am unable to update.
Thanks,
Mark
Today I deleted the databases on my Beosound 5 so that Net Radio station list would updated. Venice Classic now works once again on the Beosound 5. Still does not work on NL products.
Strangely, my Beolabs 3 stopped giving sound using the B&O Essence..........the red and green led function correctly (power off and power on when using the wheel remote), and the B&O App seems to start streaming (TuneIN)...........but no sound......could this be a cable failure? Spotify sees the Essence as available streaming device, but does not connect ("trying to Connect").
How to check the speakers/amps are ok or not? Or the Essence is failing to send out audio over the speaker ports? Changed the Essence box, so that apparantly seems ok, but it might be a wiring issue?
Quick update: have done a factory reset van the Essence, and rebooted router and smartphone and reinstalled the B&O app => result is that the speakers are playing! SO amp, wiring and speakers are ok!
The bad news is that TuneIN (again) only plays a small selection of radiostations (NPO FunX and other public radio in NL and Germany and also QMusic), but most commercial stations (like SLAM, Radio 538, Radio 10, etc) not anymore.... again this annoying HTTPS problem???
And still not possible to stream using Spotify Connect (trying to connect message, but with no result). Anyway to reset that? (cleared the Cache, logged out and in again) OR other apps that should stream to the Essence? Have no Deezer account, so can not try that.
Running firmware 4189 (May 22, 2018), any newer available?
The Spotify problem might have to do with this?
https://community.spotify.com/t5/Other-Partners-Web-Player-etc/B-amp-O-and-Spotify-Connect/td-p/4393407/page/5
Seems an existing problem: https://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/29590/237496.aspx ?
Maybe with other firmware it works?
Otherwise I will connect a Chromecast to the lin-in of the Essence and ignore the rest of this not so smart device....
TWG could I please have the software as well?
