Good evening everyone...

So I somehow miraculously got the record deck to work again in my Beogram 900 RG de luxe. It's a Garrard AT6 deck and was dead when I bought the unit.

I finally got the motor to work, bought a new stylus, and I am almost there.

The only problem is when I play a record in stereo mode, it only comes out mainly from the right speaker. Put it through mono and it comes out through both.

I have checked the input etc, by linking up my MacBook using a DIN plug cable. That works perfectly. Lovely stereo, perfect balance.

So I have eliminated the issue being with the connectors or with the amp.

This leaves possibly:

The cartridge?

The cable from the pre-amp to the amp?

The pre-amp itself?

Something else in the record player?

I have found quite a few posts reporting this problem but they either remained unresolved or the suggested solutions were so diverse as to be difficult to follow.

I am so close to getting this beautiful kit fully back up and running! Any help would be massively appreciated.

Thanks so much.

Nick

Can you test the cartridge on a different deck? If it’s the same deck I am thinking of the head shell is removable so you could check that - I have an sp25 MKii in a hacker and found once just removing it and cleaning the contacts sorted out crackle - also you could try swapping the leads to the cartridge round and that the in you get sound from the other side it is likely to be a duff cartridge - if no sound then it’s further up the line?
