hi , my girlfriend accidentally plugged my 120 volt Beogram 5500 turntable to the 220v electricity outlet here in Hong Kong without using an 120v - 220v adapter .
she heard two pop sound and smelled some burnt plastic smell.
Is there a fuse inside the turntable?
What should I do now ? My heart is broken .
please help me .
regards
david
Thank you peter . Will do so when I get back home next week from the work trip .
In case it’s the transformer , do you know where can I buy this part to replace or which models of Beogram share the same transformer with bg 5500 ?
Regards
peter
Power supplies are not identical in RIAA and non-RIAA decks. But how much has burned? Fuse, rectifier, transformer, something on the main board?
Martin
thank you peter , i will check it up right when i get back home .
thank you for your advise .
you surely know my situation because the most important thing is to calm her first .
hi martin ,
thank you for your info .
i am still on a work trip and do not know the damage in details .
as far as i remember , my beogram 5500 do not have riaa built in .
anyway , you guys are great !
thank you .
Hi guys ,
opened up the beogram 5500 with no sign of life .
the fuse is not burnt and this cause me nervous .
i am not a professional technician but only have secondary school student electronic techniques .
i have carefully disconnected the power supply part and will start to check .first the transformer , then will try replace the voltage regulator. Wish me luck .
Hi Peter ,
After founding the fuse is without damage , i did check up the transformer , 120v input on the primary side but 0v output from the secondary winding .
Does it mean I need to find a new transformer ? Sorry for my ignorance . It is 30 years ago I put my fingers on a multimeter !
i found some replacement at eBay which are from Rx , 1800 or 5000 , outlook are identical but numbers printers on it are varied . Mine is 8013274 , are they all the same ?
and some smaller pcb are 240veuro version ?
which one I should go for ? Please help and advise .
Hi Martin.
Fuse is not burnt . transformer checked , 120v input but 0 volt out . Think I need to buy a replacement transformer at eBay . Will also change the voltage regulator ic too . Think these are the vulnerable parts of the power supply side , right ?
If I buy the 240v eu version transformer , the pcb seems different . Anything I need to concern ? Please advise .
Sorry for the fat finger post .
godotz: Sorry for the fat finger post .
I cleaned it up a bit.You have email.
Thank you Martin .
Hi , would you guys let me know the basic spec of the transformer of Beogram 5500 ?
output is how many Volt and how many A ?
And after the psb, the dc voltage is ?
just for reference. Thank you .
