a jailbreaked AppleTV has it always build in
Mine has not - because in my country Apple does not allow it (may change soon).

Hi Ptbb
Do you have an iPhone? If so the BeoPlayer App is absolutely beautiful for Internet radio. It offers over 13,000 worldwide stations and of course will stream to an Apple TV box. Off course, there are also many radio stations in iTunes etc. I must say that I use this BeoPlayer app everyday and it's wonderful!
The BeoMaster 5 is a horribly dated piece of expensive kit. If it's for Internet radio listening, it wouldn't offer anything more than the BeoPlayer app with an iPhone or iPad.
I really don't want to be rude or negative but the BS5/BM5 should have been taken out of production years ago. Great for people who like to complicate matters though. Quite frankly though, it's a nasty nasty piece of expensive rubbish! It's trash!
The BS/BM5 is not rubbish at all - it serves a lot of people well.
BUT it outdated!
Perhaps the soon to come pricereduction of the BS/BM5 and of the Encore is a sign that we next year will see/hear something new from B&O. I suppose there will be a NL-Adiosystem out in the spring.
If they wait any futher, this will be outdated too, because everybody seems to stream music nowadays - either from a NAS (often than music in lossless or highdef-resolution), from iTunes on a Pc/Mac or from services like Spotify.
In these cases there is no need for a new audiosystem.
My advice for ptbb is: buy an AppleTV and a iPad(Mini), and you will have it all:
Radio - ok the B&O-app is good, but I would prefer the TuneIn Radio-app.
For music there are a lot of different solutions:
If Apple: he could use the Remote-app and AirPlay - or just stream and AirPlay from a cloudmusicservice.
No need for turning on the big screen - just use the command AV before you choose the ATV-source.
Very soon there will be a A-APPLE list-button on the Beo4!!!
For Android there are several solutions too.
The CD's (?) could be played in the Blurayplayer!
Hi Rob
Coming back to the Beolink converter ML/NL. Yes, unfortunately there is a delay . This week my new BV11-46 has been installed linked with my Beosound3000 and Beolab3500 via the Beolink converter. When playing sound via the BV11 and via the Beolab3500 at the same time there is a clear delay noticable. My BV is in the living room and the BL3500 in the kitchen not far away from the living room.
I think when their is a bigger split between the rooms the delay will not be a big issue.
For me this is disappointing as I did not know this when ordering. In the meantime B&O also admitted this on their Faq section on their website.
By the way the BV11 on it self is a real piece of art with a really great sound and exposure. My BV11 is also connected via a network cable to my NAS drive (Synolgy 213+) and this works perfect together (of course this can also be done wireless).

Hi KMA
Thanks a lot for the reading pleasure I had in the last weeks waiting for my on Bv11-46 to be delivered. Finally last week it was delivered and installed. I also ordered a BL11 -because it is such a beauty- and of course to add additional sound experience in combination with my BV11, BS3000 and BL6000.
I have copied a lot of your recommended settings for picture and sound. Thanks again this really helped. But so far I cannot get a real fat bass sound out of the BL11. Can you give any additional advice as you are an expert on settings? And my understanding of in particular the sound/bass settings in the BV11 menu is not sufficient. I have configured two settings so far; speaker 1 is BV11 and BL11. Speaker 2 is BV11, BL6000 and BL11.

Hi Beofan67,
Getting the most out of BeoLab 11 when connected to the BeoVision 11 and driven by its new audio engine takes a little tweaking and discovery (options galore!). I've highlighted the most important parts from the SETUP -> SOUND menus:
1) Speaker setup (this is where you set the universal baseline for your bass, per Speaker Group)
SETUP -> SOUND -> SPEAKER TYPE -> PL 5 LEFT: BEOLAB 11
In my case, the BeoLab 11 is connected to PL 5 socket. It does not matter which socket you connect it to, but do not assign subwoofer to both PL (X) LEFT and PL (X) RIGHT, unless you have 2 subwoofers
SETUP -> SOUND -> SPEAKER GROUPS -> SPEAKER ROLES -> BEOLAB 11: SUBWOOFER
SETUP -> SOUND -> SPEAKER GROUPS -> SPEAKER DISTANCE -> set the distance to sub
SETUP -> SOUND -> SPEAKER GROUPS -> SPEAKER LEVEL -> SUBWOOFER: 4.5 dB
This is probably the most important setting to get more out of the BeoLab 11. In my setup, the level of other speakers is 0.0 dB, i.e. at their default value. Depending on how hard you wish to drive the BeoLab 11, its speaker level can be up to 6.0 dB. If it's set to 0 (default), with BeoVision 11, the sub is practically not audible. I found 6.0 dB to be a little bit too "boomy" in some cases, and found 4.5 dB for the sub's level to be optimal. This depends of course on your listening position(s), placement of the sub and size of the room.
Also, remember to set the physical position switch of your BeoLab 11 to the correct position (Free, Wall, or Corner) depending on where your BeoLab 11 is placed. This alone affects the bass level a lot.
SETUP -> SOUND -> SPEAKER GROUPS -> ADVANCED SETTINGS -> BASS MANAGEMENT -> CROSSOVER FREQUENCY: 120 Hz (This is the default for BeoLab 11 in my setup). If you set it lower than the default, it will direct more bass to the sub from other speakers.
SETUP -> SOUND -> SPEAKER GROUPS -> ADVANCED SETTINGS -> BASS MANAGEMENT -> ENABLE FILTERING: LEFT FRONT and RIGHT FRONT: ON
SETUP -> SOUND -> SPEAKER GROUPS -> ADVANCED SETTINGS -> PANNING, REDIRECTION LEVELS and REDIRECTION BALANCE I've left to the default settings offered by the audio engine for my speakers.
SETUP -> SOUND -> SPEAKER GROUPS -> ADVANCED SETTINGS -> LFE INPUT TO CEILING: NO
SETUP -> SOUND -> SPEAKER GROUPS -> ADVANCED SETTINGS -> SUBWOOFER -> TIME ALIGNMENT: 0 ms and ALL-PASS FREQUENCY: BYPASS
2) Then, from any SOUND MODE, you can make the following sound adjustments:
SETUP -> SOUND -> SOUND MODES -> CUSTOM (for example, you can adjust any of the sound modes except "Adaptive) ->
Experimenting with these will set the tone of the speakers to your liking.
ADVANCED SETTINGS -> LFE INPUT: ON
ADVANCED SETTINGS -> LOUDNESS: BASS MAX BOOST 12 dBADVANCED SETTINGS -> LOUDNESS: TREBLE MAX BOOST 9 dB
If you are not a fan of the LOUDNESS setting, you can leave it off. I find it to be implemented well enough to leave it ON, especially when you can adjust how much Loudness boosts bass and treble.
ADVANCED SETTINGS -> SPATIAL CONTROL -> PROCESSING: TRUE IMAGE
All other settings under SPATIAL CONTROL I've kept at their default mid-points, except for MUSIC sound mode I've selected to expand the STAGE WIDTH, making my TV's speaker sound as if they were further apart than they physically are.
ADVANCED SETTINGS -> DYNAMICS CONTROL -> COMPRESSION: OFFADVANCED SETTINGS -> DYNAMICS CONTROL -> CLIP PROTECTION: ON
Start by tweaking the highlighted parts (especially the sub's speaker level), and you should get a better response from BeoLab 11.
You can undo any settings you've made by RESET TO DEFAULT. What's great about this is that it only affects the particular settings in the sub-menu you're in, so it won't reset all sound adjustments to their defaults. This makes "trial and error" more convenient, and experimenting safer.

Hi KMA,
Appreciate your quick reply. Thanks for your time and effort to describe it in this extended way. In the coming long evenings before Xmas I will find some time to follow up your recommendations. I will let you know the results.

KMA,
it seems someone is in need of a university degree of audio engineering for the BV11 setup in comparison to previous BV10
Regarding sound, you have written: " Here BeoVision 10 loses big time. The audio of BeoVision 11 is both fuller and clearer than that of BV10. Does you judgment focus on the stand alone system (only BV11 without any add. BL speaker)? Or does the poor sound quality of the BV10 relativize in setup with BL3/9/5 frontspeaker, if the BV10 is only the center speaker?
Thank you very much for your answer.

ptbb:My new beovision 11 55 will arrive on next friday. it is my first b&o tv. i would like to know, if ii is possible to hear internet radio on boevision 11, because i want use tv as only one source for listening music, radio and blue ray.
On a site note: depending on your location: the BV11 does actually scan for DVB.T Radio - in case that's available in your area

Hi hotknife,
When I made the comparison, I was initially talking about BV11 as a standalone unit (TV's speakers only) compared to BeoVision 10. Strangely (and superbly) the audio on BV11 is so good that BeoLab 11 brings very little extra to the bass response. I'm actually still undecided if I like the sound of the BV11's speakers ALONE better than with BeoLab 11. BV11's 3-way speakers sound great and very balanced together, and there is amazingly deep bass.
With BeoVision 10, BeoLab 11 completes the otherwise missing low-end of the audio. However, the speakers of BV11 (with or without BL11) still sound better, more natural and pleasing to the ears. BeoVision 11 has "true" Bang & Olufsen sound, in my opinion. I'm sure BeoVision 11 would also have more strength as a center channel, and because of the better speakers, dialogue and vocals would sound better on the BV11.
With BeoVision 10, you'll need the BeoLab 11 for any serious listening, and it still will not measure up to enjoyable audio of BV11.
Having invested more time exploring the new audio engine of BV11, if you have additional BeoLabs connected for front and surround, BeoVision 11 will still win. The benefits come from the tailoring you can do for any speaker setup -- something the "crude" sound settings of BV10 cannot manage.
I hope B&O will implement the new audio engine to all of their TVs, and to BeoSystem 3. As it is now, the audio capabilities in BV11 are, in my opinion, on par with BeoSystem 3 -- if not even more advanced.
KMA, I just received my BV11-55 last week and still going though all the features and menus. I have two issues which perhaps you may be of assistance. First I cannot get the headphones to work - essentially the sound continues to come out of the TV speakers. Is there some special setting that is needed for the headphones to work as far as you know?
The second issue is more feedback from you (and others). When I look at the at the edges of the TV I see the LEDs, is this normal or should they be invisible? The reason I ask is that I noticed while I was watching a blu-ray that the black bars on top and the bottom are not pitch black, but rathei see a white beam from the edges. This happened with one particular blu-ray, and the room was completely dark. Have you noticed this at all?
And the third, is there a more descriptive manual explaining each of the menu features in more detail? The help button on the TV is very limited.
Thank you in advance...

thank you very much for your answer and the time you invested.
Taking only the first question: This is common to many B&O TV's. Plug in the headphones, then mute the TV (press the volume button straight into the Beo4) the headphones will continue to play, you can control the volume as always, and the speakers can be brought back on by pressing mute again.
We kid because we love.
Russ...thanks for the response. Will try it and i am sure it will work...cheers

Hi rxcohen,
I haven't used headphones with the TV yet, but muting sounds like the right solution.
As for seeing the LEDs at the edges of the screen, I haven't noticed such issue with my BV11, and I've watched it in the dark. Do you see the beams with all sources, or only blu-ray? You could try this while watching a blu-ray: go to SETUP -> PICTURE -> PICTURE ADJUSTMENT -> ADVANCED SETTINGS -> ADJUST (THE NAME OF YOUR BLU-RAY SOURCE) and try changing the CROPPING/OVERSCAN setting. You could simply have some "underscanning" going on with the blu-ray source, so check if changing Cropping/Overscan helps.
About manuals: if you only got the "daily use" guide with your TV, you can download a more extensive User Manual from B&O's web site. Just look for BeoVision 11 under Customer Service. There's also a separate guide of the advanced audio settings on the downloads page for BV11.
Hope this helps!
Back in the shop today. I can confirm that this is the way it works.
KAM and Russ...thank you for the information. I will try both and play some more. I did get the beams while watching blu-ray, so perhaps that could be eliminated with the settings. There is definitely a small manufacturing defect with the seam between the glass and the panel not being perforated, but if that does not cause any problems then I would be fine with it. I will look for the dust inside the screen over the next week.
Cheers...
Hi rxcohen it sounds like your tv has backlight bleeding where the corners of the screen shine beams of light, i would contact b&0 if the settings your going too try doesn't solve your issue.

HI Guys, I am now the proud owner of BV11 40 which I have to say is a terrific set however I have one question which perhaps people could help with.
Is there a way of displaying both the digital and analogue tv signals at the same time. I have a cctv camera pictures wired into the analogue aerial system but cannot see with the current software how to display both at the same time.
The tv found the 1 analogue channel which was the cctv channel so it is there but i can only seem to display Tv via either the digital terrestrial tuner or the analogue tuner, not both at once.
Thks
Phil
You could buy a standalone analog tv-tuner and connect it to the analog input of the BV11.
Use google to search for the tuner in your area!
Tune it into the frequency of your cctv camera and let it stay on that channel.
With the PiP-function it would be easy to access the camera while watching tv.
Hi all. Well I have just jumped in with an order for a 55" BV11 with a pair of BLab9, Apple TV and Playmaker. Very excited to be receiving it all in about 2 weeks. The forum has been a great help in aiding me to make the decision to get this setup, but not much activity in the last couple of months. Any new experiences with the BV11, issues or installation considerations that I might like to consider before the kit arrives.
I am really hoping to drive the BL9 with the playmaker for classical music a lot via AirTunes. Any observations on the best format in iTunes to archive the CDs into as a new iMac is also coming soon and I hope to rip most of my CDs again to the best advised format.
thanks for any help!

Hi shoutj74,
have you considered having your files on a NAS?
In this case you don't always have to have the iMac running to listen to music/control the music.
By the way: you want an ATV and the Playmaker? Why both?
How will you connect the Playmaker to rhe BV11?
Or do you have more B&O-devices not written about?
And...congratulations with your new tv and the Lab9's
I was wandering why you wanted Apple TV, and a Playmaker. Is there an advantage in audio quality using the Playmaker?
Good choice with the 9's
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
A few friends have suggested NAS. I think if Playmaker supports FLAC I might do it as the quality I understand would be better. Otherwise I tend to leave the iMac asleep with wake for Network set on power control option which works OK for other AirTunes devices I am running at the moment.
For the lab 9 I am hoping I can run the playmaker to 1 pair of power link connections and the BV11 to the other pair of power link connections. Therefore not needing the TV to be on for playmaker 2.2 audio. I don't think I need to connect the playmaker to the BV11? Otherwise I will drive the BL9 from AppleTV and I think BV can be set up for 2.2 stereo with the screen off from set devices? Then ill have a spare playmaker but it was free anyway. Should I be saying 2.2, the subs in each lab seem to qualify for a .1 each
Hi shoutj74
I would not recomend to connct the BL9s to two sources. I once ha a similar solution and sound was very bad. Just connect your sources to BV11, when listening to music turn off the screen by issuing the p.mute command with your remote.
When you descide for the dlna way, FLAC will be the preferred format to rip your music. If you decide to go the apple way, I would recomend apple lossless. This will force you to use ATV to play your music, as the build in dlna player of BV11 cannot play apple lossless files.

Because NAS storage is so cheap, I now use Max (there are many options here) to convert CD's to WAV files for storage while simultaneously putting a lesser file on my computer for iTunes synching. But now using Spotify 50% of the time at home, 99% of the time when not. Times are a changing.
You can AirPlay FLAC from a iDevice.
If the files are stored on a NAS, it only depends on which server is running on that NAS.
There are many DLNA-apps avaible - most of them allow AirPlaying.
Still, if you go the Mac-way, it would be best to rip to ALAC, and stick with iTunes on the iMac - and AirPlay.
Using a lossy format when ripping your own cd's is a waste of time, since you can have music in 320-quality from Spotify Premium (or others) much easier nowadays.
The Playmaker might be connected to the BV11 via the analog-in port (AV-in) - you will need an adapter for only-audio.
I would suggest this only if you want to play losless files, and if you want to avoid the 48khz sound-upconverting of the ATV.
Otherweise spare your Playmaker for another room with BeoLabs or other active speakers.

There is absolutely no reason to use wav (or aiff) since you can use a lossless format (yes, it actually is lossless), and if you use a lossless format you gain loads of metadata options, including cover art. Using a lossless format for storage is not only space saving and future proof, but you get to have cover art and other stuff. You can convert as many times you like between Apple lossless, WMA lossless, FLAC, WAV and AIf, and the pcm data (the actual audio data) will be the exact same - not close, not nearly, but exactly the same, bit for bit.
Seriously, I play my lossless files and use them exactly like you use your lossy files. I only use lossy files on my small "mp3" player I use for training/rowing (it's a watertight thingy, so I had no choice but to buy way less storage than I wanted). My music library is, but for a few exceptions, all in lossless.
@ Electrified If you had read my post in context (or at all), you might have noticed that I was responding to the concern that Playmaker and ATV offer somewhat different file support. Any player can play a WAV file. With Max, you can rip to multiple file types to multiple locations. So there is plenty of reason for those who want to do something correctly, one time, to consider the process I use....or not. But for you to say there is no reason is, in fact, inaccurate.

I did read your post, and my point still stands: If you run Apple gear, you rip to ALAC, and if you run windows (or linux, for that matter), you rip to FLAC or WMA Lossless. Instead of using wav or aiff, where you have no support for cover art and the like, and in order for that to happen, have your library in a lossy format, the best option is to use lossless for everything. That way you can actually listen to lossless files and have cover art.
If my explanation didn't get through (which it evidently didn't), if you down the line feel like using Apple (or moving away from Apple), you can convert the FLAC files to ALAC - losslessly - removing the need to have a "back up" in wav or aif. In fact, if you then need a wav file to use in, say, a movie you're editing, you can convert that file to wav, again absolutely lossless.
As for your comment about "doing something correctly". I'm sorry, but since nothing is lost by having it in a lossless format, but much is gained, your "correct" way is not only cumbersome, but time consuming when importing anew into something else, and you will be using lossy formats. So, in order to get that, you have to import (convert) the song, and then download covers and what have you. Whereas if you rip to a lossless format, your backup will have that after the first time you did it.
Your suggestion of having a backup entirely consisting of wav files, and then have a library of lossy files to actually listen to, is naive at best. Why not listen to the lossless files, when it has metadata support far beyond WAVs and AIFs, including cover art?
This is so confusing, but as I am in an all Apple environment and do not currently have any issues decompressing and streaming ALAC which I understand to be give or take the same quality as FLAC, I think I will stick with the Apple solution at the moment. At the risk of throwing another curly question into the debate though, what do we think about keeping my basic Denon UD-M31 mini system in the system via the line in socket of the Playmaker.
Initially I thought that for that considering how much all this is costing, I should keep some sort of CD player in the loop for best quality playback, but some of the forums I have read suggest that a DAC in a basic hi-fi system wont be as good as the digital stream all the way to the ICE amps in the BV9 and that ALAC could actually be better in this regard. I suppose if needs must I could always slam a CD into the Sammy BluRay which will be in the configuration....so many options...
