Hi shoutj74,
sorry for confusing you - but there indeed are many options and decitions to make.
Most of "us" have struggled with these questions for years to find the solution that is best (for us).
As I wrote above: if you are into MAC stick to ALAC!
In your case I would - for a start - consider connecting the Playmaker to a line-in of the Denon UD-M31 (which I am sure it has).
All you will need is a RJ-Powerlink to Phono-female cable. You can get t from a B&O-dealer or from Steve from Sounds Heavenly.
This way you can - in that room - use AirPlay, DLNA and even have a spare line-in port on the PM through your mini-system.
Happy experimenting
P.S. But - in any case - be sure to rip to a losless format (ALAC or FLAC).
Greetings Millemissen
There is a tv - and there is a BV
shoutj74:This is so confusing, but as I am in an all Apple environment and do not currently have any issues decompressing and streaming ALAC which I understand to be give or take the same quality as FLAC, I think I will stick with the Apple solution at the moment.
I didn't mean to confuse with all the geekiness. Do stick to ALAC if you're on a Mac - it's the best choice for that. FLAC and ALAC are the exact same quality audiowise as wav or aif: It's lossless. You loose absolutely nothing. And if you at a later date feel like going to Windows, you can, without loss, make those ALAC files into FLAC or WMA Lossless without any loss of quality whatsoever.
shoutj74:itially I thought that for that considering how much all this is costing, I should keep some sort of CD player in the loop for best quality playback, but some of the forums I have read suggest that a DAC in a basic hi-fi system wont be as good as the digital stream all the way to the ICE amps in the BV9 and that ALAC could actually be better in this regard. I suppose if needs must I could always slam a CD into the Sammy BluRay which will be in the configuration....so many options...
Don't worry about it. Use a cd drive to rip your music and be done with it once and for all. If someone comes with a cd for you to hear, rip that too before listening to it.
As promised it all went in today and so far so good. I didn't realize that the wall bracket was still actually a hinge which means I can still easily get to the rear of the system if need be. I haven't really started playing with the settings much yet but have worked out how to use the BV11 speakers, the BL9 speakers or both together and the decoding is great. Watching Yellowstone BlueRay the centre channel works lovely for the narration and detail with the BL9 immersing the sound stage with orchestration and bass. Really beyond what I have experienced with any full surround sound system setup.
rxcohen, did you ever get to the bottom of the LED backlight issue? I've had my BV11-55 for one week now and have exactly the same LED stripes at oth sides when using webmedia - very noticeable on the YouTube app when it's busy loading a video since it's essentially a black screen with the timer n the middle.
Curious whether it's 'normal' or whether I need to have it looked at.
Hi Berlin...was told by dealer that this is normal operation. Must say a bit disappointed with it but over time it has become less of an issue and I don't pay attention to it. I also found that with the room in total darkness these issues are more troublesome. With some ambient light it seems to remove some of it in movies. Interesting enough I was watching the film The Master last week, and in one scene the background wall behind a character kept on changing brightness (a different problem). In conclusion there are some quirks with the TV which I hope could be solved via software over time.

Hi Guys, I think I have noticed the backlight issue once, but it didn't last long enough for me to experiment with it. It was a widescreen movie from the 80's and at the top left of the screen there was about 40cm of dashed white light. However, I am wondering now having played with the TV settings a bi whether or not this is simply the cropping/overscan setting which I have tweaked a bit since on some BlueRays it was almost like the TV was running out of information at the edges and they were sort of blurred for a couple of mm. I think the cropping/overscan setting was 10 when I got to it and I have now set it to 12 just to tidy the edges up.
I also noticed once some strange 'effects' though with a black crow hopping on snow from the Yellowstone Documentary flashing from a completely black silhouette, almost cartoon light, to something looking like a crow with some feather texture. I am thinking this must be something to do with the active image brightness control and the fact that the TV can locally dim up to 16 different areas. On the other hand, revisiting Brokeback Mountain (no pun intended!) last night some of the mountain scenes at night were so well resolved it was amazing. I don't think it would have appeared as good as it did at a digital cinema.
That's why I'd probably go for a bv7 55 over the bv11 despite it being more advanced , the backlight is a serious problem on the 11 , all led edge tvs I've seen suffer from it. It's awful. The local dimming on the 7 55 is much better.
OLED will remove the whole backlight problem , maybe it's worth waiting for that ?
rob08:I have the same issue with my BV11-55. Most noticeable when credits roll or when using Apple TV and the thing spins in the middle of the screen in white on black background. In movies or tv shows I have yet to notice it though. But I really really hope B&O can fix it via SW
No, that's not possible. It's not a software issue, it's a hardware problem - the way the backlighting has been arranged.
I have been playing around with my new 11-40 for some time now. All in all I am quite satisfied but there are some drawbacks aswell. Here are my thoughts:
FirstIy, I ordered some Bosscom RJ45 to powerlink cables over the internet for connecting my Lab 9's. However these cables make an awful loud buzzing noise when connected! I then had to buy the genuine B&O cables. Luckily I got some discount from my dealer. This is just an advise about the bosscom cables.
Another similar problem occurs when I try to hook up my BeoCenter 2 to the set up. I have not ordered the ML/NL converter as I thought I could just plug the powerlink cables directly from the socket unit to the speakers and at the same time having RJ45 to Powerlink cables leading from the television to the other input of the speaker. However again this results in some quite loud buzzing. When disconnecting one of the inputs the buzzing stops immediately. All cables are genuine B&O. Anyone know of a solution to this problem?
My greatest concern is about the gaming performance of the television. Going from the 8-40, the Vision 11 is quite a big disappointment. I find the picture in the gaming profile muddy and grainy compared to the 8-40. Picking up where I left in Tomb Raider on the old 8, I almost thought I was playing a whole different game with downgraded graphics. Unsharp image, dull colours and then the, as far as I can tell, quite noticeable input lag. The difference between the regular picture mode and gaming mode is redicoulous. On the 8-40 there was merely a change at all. I guess I can live with it, but I must say that I did not expect that the picture quality would be beaten by a 4-year old LCD-panel in gaming mode
Blu-ray on the other hand is a whole different story. Here, the 11 just crushes the 8! I was very pleased with the movie performance on the 8. Going to the stores and looking at sets from Samsung, Pana etc, I still found the 8 to be on par or even better than most current models. With that in mind I had not expected to be blown away by the 11 - but now I am. My god, is the picture crisp and clear Playing the ever wonderful 1994 Léon on blu-ray was a fantastic experience. Unbelievable crisp picture with deep black levels and stunning detail - wow!
Sound wise the Vision 11 also beats my previous Beovision, by far! The center channel is much, much improved with loud and clear voices. This was a very big issue on the 8. And together with the tweaking options for external speakers, my Lab 9's did a much greater job of providing a cinematic experience. One word about the audio: Astonishing!
So far my thoughts of the Beovision 11-40
BeoVision Eclipse 55, BeoPlay S8 (sub+rears), BeoPlay A9 MKII (living room), BeoVision Avant 32 DVD (retro gaming, basement), BeoLab 4000 (entertainment room, basement), BeoSound 8 (workshop), 2x BeoPlay S3 (PC), BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay H2/H3 (on the go)
Thanks for your post

I think you have a grounding problem - there are many articles on the internet under "earth loop hum"; here is one:
http://www.epanorama.net/documents/groundloop/home_solving.html
when I have this problem I make sure all the components share a common circuit / power outlet, usually by having a power distribution board - and I usually use one that has some protection circuits built in to it.

Have you checked if there is a GAME MODE setting in the BV11's set up menus ?
Did you use that setting in the BV8 ?

I am constantly adjusting the sound on my BV8 depending upon source and type of programming. There never seems to be a single setting where voices are consistently good
BeoNut since '75
I read an earlier post from a bv11 owner who was really impressed with the gaming feature. He even posted a photo of him playing call of duty on it as proof...

I will have a look at this, thanks.

I have selected the game mode on the 11 as I did on the 8.

I too never found a setting where the audio in the center chanel of the 8 was loud enough...

Going back on this thread I noticed that aswell. I wonder which television he owned before? To make thing clear, the picture is not "bad" it is just quite a big step down in comparison with that one on the 8 which had a superb HD picture in gaming mode. On the 11 the control feels sluggish and heavy and the graphics are not at all that sharp and stunning
Thought I might add a couple of my issues here concerning my BV11 40.
I tend to use the TV as a TV and not for gaming (and not too much for YouTube etc either) so I can't really add anything about some of the issues raised above.
I have a motorised wall hinge, with audio position flat against the wall and video position about 40 degrees out. If I switch on the radio (which is via Freeview) the TV starts up by heading for its video position. When it gets to about 30 degrees out it realises that it needs to head back to the wall for the audio position. My dealer has found exactly the same problem in the showroom, but Struer cannot replicate it. They actually sent a laptop to the dealer to download a record of what the showroom TV was doing. Updates are awaited. The TV should stay against the wall when the radio is switched on.
Sometimes if the radio has been on and then the TV button is hit, the TV sound comes on but a faint image of the radio station home page freezes on the screen. Resolution seems to involve switching the TV off altogether, waiting for one or two minutes, then switching back on. I am guessing that the internal tuner can lock-up just like an old external Freeview or STBox. Disappointing.
Overall though the TV is superb. I have just got round to connecting a Cambridge Azur Blu Ray player (same as Oppo.... Thanks Flappo for the tip in that other thread.) Satellite connections still need to be reconfigured with twin lnb for recording. BV5 and masterlinked BC2 and other TVs are currently being rewired elsewhere in the apartment. By the time I've finished something else without proper backward connectivity will have come out...........

Just to make sure, are you sure there aren't two settings for gaming? That is, one color profile and one input mode setting in the preferences?
What did you do about this issue? Have you become accustomed to playing with lag?
It is the one thing that holds me back from purchasing a BV11-55. The lag seems ridiculous.
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
Chris Townsend:I use the 46 on game mode and it's excellent. If you use the PS3 for games, and then play a BluRay remember to set the TV to movie mode in picture and sound settings.
I can't stand 'movie mode'. Colours are too odd (too warm). I just leave it to the automatic setting and seems more natural to me.
rob08:I have the BV11-55 and play a LOT of games using the game mode, mostly CoD and recently Payday2, and it works great. Can't say that I feel any direct difference between the latency on the BV vs my prior tv - Pioneer Kuro 428xd
So has B&O come out with an update since the release or does it come down to tolerance? Most initial reviews claim the input lag is very high.
I did this. I will let you know.
I'm gonna bring my iPad to the store and try some games, just to make sure.
Here's the answer I got:
Dear Mr. Lundmark,
We are pleased to inform you that the input lag on the BeoVision 11-55 when set to game mode is 78mS.
We hope to have helped you.
Kind regards,

well that's pretty good
can't wait to get mine - next week !! OOH LA LA !!
Now that the launch of the new Beovision is just a couple of days away, I thought I'd bring up this thread of BeoVision 11.
Since I wrote about my experiences and impression about BV11, I have enjoyed the Beovision immensely: picture, audio, latest updates including Spotify, etc. I am enjoying Beovision 11 daily. Wastly superior to BV10, and audio-wise, I don't understand why I've read posts about BV11 audio needing a sub. I have Beolab 11, and I find the audio of BV11 alone more balanced and "fine tuned" without the sub, even with music.
Granted, with tweaking, Beolab 11 brings a little more sophisticated bass to the BV11 speakers.
This is to say that with BV11 alone, Geoff Martin did a stellar job in audio – and that may still be an understatement.
In short, my BV11 with all goodies (Dual Tuner, HDD, motorized floor-stand) meets all my expectations.
Come May 8th:
I'll leave it to some serious auditioning to determine if the speakers (smaller than in BV11, as I've understood) are really as good as the audio in BV11.
The 4K picture with B&O magic is stellar, I'm sure, even with upscaled blu-ray quality. At least that is what I expect, after seeing how, for example, Sony upscales 1080p to 4K.
I have no actual need to upgrade to the new Beovision (Mk I, with some teething issues, perhaps), but I'm enthusiastic (and stupid) enough to upgrade as an early adopter, as soon as the new Beovision is available. Hopefully my dealer (who might be reading this) proposes a reasonable exchange offer of my BV11. Should he, I will not disclose the details.
Once I have the new Beovision (and some 4K sources I'm scouting for), you can expect a review – if that's the correct term here – which will be every bit as detailed as I wrote about my fantastic BV11 above.
I'm thrilled about May 8th. And I dare already say that B&O is getting ahead in the game. (Oh-oh, now I jinxed it!)
PS. I wrote some of my enthusiasm to B&O's fb page – things that are known on this forum and otherwise – and got deleted by B&O. Obviously B&O sees – and maybe rightly so – that their fb audience is bigger than the audience at BeoWorld, and they felt what's been revealed here is too much for the fb audience. On fb, my intention was to build up the anticipation for May 8th, that's all. Here, my intention is to share my experiences of the new Beovision as soon as I have it, objectively albeit from my subjective perspective – which is based on living with B&O since 1991.
PPS. I hope my dealer does not ban me from their store and deny selling the new BV to me after reading this :)
PPPS. Any typos are due to a few glasses of champagne I've had, I'll proof read and revise tomorrow where needed!

B&O product history since 1991: Ridiculously long to list in a signature.

You're a customer and you're enthusiastic. The last thing they should do for your loyalty is delete any posts. Bring on May 8 and let no one diminish the feelings you have: champagne; or no champagne.
that's very short sighted on bno's part
building a loyal internet presence is vital
As per the latest update (May 2014) to the Beovision software, this thread needs updating / addentums. I will link the relevant threads of BV11's new features — and how to get the most of them — here.
Looks like the recent software update sorted out the motion problems .
I've noticed some backlight flickering in dark scenes, like the TV can't make up its mind whether the backlight should be on or off. I watched the movie Her yesterday and it was readily apparent in the nightly close-ups of Joaquin Phoenix's face, like this one:
The outer fringes (where the LEDs are located) would continuously flicker. I hadn't noticed this before the update, but I haven't watched Her before either, so it's hard to say whether this artifact is new.
Has the 11 got AST?
I had this issue with some films last year...so unlikely introduced with the latest update
I have seen this too with my 11-55. It partiularly seems to occur in very dark scenes where, like the image showed, there is a slightly less dark side to one half of the screen. It's like the system cannot work out whether or not to turn the lamps on or off to get the best blacks. I recall watching a documentary which had crows in it, and as they flew about on the screen, the backlights would turn on and off almost randomly alternatively giving a true representation of the crow and a siloutete image of the crow. I haven't done the latest update yet, but it's nothing new. I think micro-dimming rear array is best for LCD like my now very old Samsung 9 has, be interesting to see if they have done a better job with the new Avant.
Well, they should be able to solve it so it's not so aggressive. Maybe disable it altogether in these types of scenes. But I guess this is just a stopgap solution until OLED is coming.
Head on the PQ is good , from an angle it is pretty poor - very washed out.
Can't really blame bno as all edge tv's are the same as this as far as I can tell.
As you say roll on OLED
Flappo: As you say roll on OLED
it seems like most of the manufacturers are 'rolling back' OLED.

Roll on BV7-55
