I just checked my Bsys3 speaker setup menu.Yes, you can assign any speaker connected to any role (front,rear,left,right) including Beolabs 7/1.2.6
Beogram 6500 MMC2,Beosound Ouverture,2xBeolab 8000,2xBelolab 4000,Beolab 2,Beolab 7.2,Beo4 navi, 2xBeocom2,Serene,Beosystem 3 mk3,H6 2nd gen,Earphones E8,A8,A9 keyring,Beoplay A1,Bottle opener,Beoplay A2 active(thanks Botty)Wine Set(thanks Botty),4Ktv Samsung 55'',Beolab 7.1 with 42''Panasonic plasma,,Oppo udp-203, LinTronic.
Just out of curiosity,don't tell me you are going to experiment idea(which crossed my mind last year), to wallmount 7.1s vertically ?
What about 7.6's ? Almost like Pentas

If my memory serves me well, I think that depends on the version and sw of the BSys3.
Unfortunately not able to check this at time being.

Sorry I won’t be able in the next days - I’ll spend most of the next couple of weeks at a music festival (Tønder Festival in DK).
Since you already have a BSys3 at home - why not connect that and see which options the sound menu offers on that one.
Not able check model & software,as of last night I am at my second home on the island.
All I can say,back in 2015. my Bsys3 was latest model.with latest software.
Seems possible, I just tried it on:
Beosystem MK3, Type No. 7710,
Servicemenu:
Monitor InformationIC3: AP SW: 13.12.aIC2: IOP SW23.00a
and as you can see I could choose a few more 7.2 in the speaker setup menu.
