Help with SP12 cartridge - SOLVED

hi all

im new to this site and Beogram turntables hence the user name! I need some help from you experts 😊I bought a beogram B&O 1202 TT and sourced a cartridge and stylus SP12 from a 1203 but the cartridge does not sit flush with the 1202 tone arm? Leaves a gap of roughly 1cm where the black ends are, the end of both tone arms is slightly different with the 1202 arm having slightly protruding pin holes which appears to be the problem? Help! Dave

Hi, and welcome!

Glad to help but a picture would help!

It appears the 1202 arm must be the problem. Nothing must protrude and the cartridges are interchangeable.

Push the cartridge connector back into the tube. Is the screw underneath still present?

You will probably have to adjust the angular position of the SP12 so that it rides perfectly parallel to the surface of a record.

Hi Jacques 

having trouble uploading a photo at present but the stylus is actually a SP14 my bad 😖, the end of the tone arm has the four pin holes but they protrude slightly out so leaving a gap once I fit the cartridge, on the 1203 TT the pin holes are flush. There is a screw under the tone arm

So just push the connector in, then tighten the screw and check that it’s true. All these carts share a body.

Does it look like this?

It’s hard to discribe the pin connector the cartridge sits on has raised pin holes not flush pin holes?

Just seen the photo no isn’t out like that one the actual connector is sitting in but like I said above the pin holes are raised

Hi as you can see from this and previous photos doesn’t sit flush because of the raised pin holes and thank you for pointing me towards the app Smile makes life easier!

Okay. The tonearm looks normal. May we see the cart’s pins?

Remove the small insulators/spacers.

Mmm... it looks normal as well.

Remove the spacers stuck at the arm’s connector and you should be fine! Stick out tongue

That’s what I thought too, could it be a different tone arm has been put on because like I said the pin holes have raised pin heads on them compared to the flush ones of the 1203 ( 2nd photo) which the cart fits perfect?! See the difference?

Take the spacers that are stuck out!

The spacers should be with the cartridge, not stuck on the arm’s connector.

Ok thank you what is the best way to remove as it seems well stuck in the arm at the moment!

Use the missus’ tweezers! Do insist a bit, there is no risk. Hold the tonearm while doing so.
