I have just bought a Beovision 8-40 and completely love it.
There is just one thing that really bothers me and that's the electric curtain effect. I use the DVB-modul in the TV and it takes quite a while to start up. But the electric curtain effect does not take that in account, so when the curtains glide aside it takes about 20-25 seconds before i se the picture and hear the sound. That really spoils the effect and i think that's such a pity.
Does anyone in heir have a solution for delaying the curtains effect when the TV starts up?
Hope someone can help!?
Elephant is the man for this!!!
Paul W: Elephant is the man for this!!!
I shall do some timing tests ... I imagine it is a fixed delay
I have not seen any every day user controls to change the delay, or turn it off
but I will time the curtain and the sources for you
BeoNut since '75
AWESOME!!! I knew that you were the man, Mr Elephant :) :) :)

Clearly da Elephant is da man! He'd better come to our next party along with you Paul W!!
Also have a BV8-40 and the curtains work fine...
Hope you get the problem fixed,,, would be interested to know what the issue is?
My complaint with the BV8 is a 'judder/shudder' on the picture at times... do I need to turn off "MOVIE" effect?
Beovision 8-40, Beocentre 6-26, Beocentre 2, Beolab 9's, Beogram 7000, Beogram 9500, Beo 5, Beolit 1000, 800, 700, 600, 400, Beocom 6's, Beotalk 1200
Sounds perfect!
I look forward to hear what you find out!?
I have taken time on how long the TV takes to start:
From I press the TV button on Beo4 it takes approximately 16 sec till the curtains open, and I see the gray screen with the black clock.
After 26 sec the grey screen disappear and the TV screen goes completely black and first after 45 sec the picture appears and so does the sound. Completely ridicules!
How long does it take to start for you other guys who also have a Beovision 8-40?
Hi SJensen,
the behaviour you describe is the same I had when I got my BV 10-40 in 2009. The ugly grey screen with the clock disappeared after a software update in 2010. The actual software of BV 10 and also BV 8 is build 227. So make an update of your BV 8-40 by your dealer.
After the update you don´t see the clock any more, but it still lasts more than 30 seconds until the electronic curtain open and the picture appears.
Regards
Räuber
Hallo Räuber
Thanks for the reply.
I just called my local B&O store, but the man I talked to didn't know anything about a software update?? He though still offered me to come by with my Beovision 8 and he would then take a look at it.
Can you tell me how to look which software build is installed now on my TV?

I have the most recent update for the DVB-HD modul: Version 0.1.9.9.

The picture will even appear faster. Gregory

Hi Gregory,
no, the ugly clock is caused by the software of the beovision, not by the software of the HD module!
And: With the actual software build 227 and HD module software 0.1.9.9.0 my BV 10-40 still takes more than 30 seconds until the curtain opens!

So I arrived home early (i.e. 11pm) and so I am doing some tests for all of us
First simple test to establish a baseline on my BV8-40 ... note I was using my left hand to start an iDevice stopwatch and my right hand to start the [Beo4] keys ... and then pressing the iDevice lap timer with my left hand at various stages ... so plenty of room for error ... but the "scale" of the difference is probably what we are really after !
[A.MEM] to start of music from speakers (I have two attached BeoLab 3s) ... 7.5 seconds (speakers had been warmed up by several false starts)
[RADIO] to start of noise from speakers .......................................................... 8.5 seconds the speakers clicked, ~13.0 seconds the sound of radio
[CD] to start of music ................................................................................................ 8.5 seconds to speaker click, 13.5 seconds to sound of CD
Interesting then is that around ~2.0 seconds there is a soft click which seems to be the BV8-40 activating
So now let's test the video aspects of the BV8-40
[TV] to start free to air analogue ............................................................................. 1.1 seconds to soft click, 7.7 seconds to speaker click, 17.0 seconds to start of curtain opening
[DTV] .... hmmm that was interesting !
1.6 seconds to soft click
7.8 seconds to speaker click
16.5 seconds to Bang & Olufsen logo in gray on bottom right hand corner
33.5 seconds to curtains parting ... sound a second or two after that !
[LIST] [PC] (having woken up the MacMini in the background)
2.2 seconds to soft click
8.2 seconds to speaker click
21.5 seconds to curtains parting to display desktop
[LIST] [V.AUX] for Foxtel
(missed the soft click - too much family chatter during important scientific experiments *tsk* *tsk*)
17.1 seconds to curtains parting
[LIST] [DVD-2] for the PS3 (activated on the background)
8.4 seconds to speaker click
21.2 seconds to curtains parting
[DVD] for the ATV ... which might be delayed by its own activation so we shall see:
~ 2 seconds to soft click
7.9 seconds to speaker click
27.2 to flashing of backplane (ATV startup?) and then curtains open and ATV's screen appears
So in summary
At no time have I see a gray screen and black clock ... I presue this means we are at different software levels.
My BV8-40 is hardware type C23, LCD panel type LTA400HG02 (whatever that means!) ... and I can't remember how to retrieve the software level
Tomorrow I might repeat some of these source tests on my BV8-32 just for comparison !
This i how my Monitor Information looks. I can't seem to se anything about the software??
Raeuber:You can see the software version as follows: Press MENU twice Mark OPTIONS (don't press GO) Press 0 0 GO You see the SERVICE MENU Then select MONITOR, MONITOR INFORMATION Now you can check the software version. I assume you have Build 127 or so. Your dealer can update the software with a special software and his notebook. Regards Räuber

Thank you !
So the software build for my timing tests is/was ....... 227
And it also says DVB HD .... 0.1.9.9
David Coyne:Clearly da Elephant is da man! He'd better come to our next party along with you Paul W!!
I would be happy to do so ... better strengthen the floor boards !!!
Sorry, but the software build version is only shown with newer software versions, your screen shows only the versions of the different modules.
My BV 10-40 with software build 227 shows "BUILD 227" and also the versions of the modules:

So a detail that is greater than yours .... another indication that your BV8-40 is a lower level of software from mine ?
Although the DVN HD seems the same, the SYSTEM MODULE is clearly an early version than mine (which was updated when I had my problems back in April-June)
Yes okay
That tells us that the software really needs to be updated
Thanks for you help and I let you know if the software update helps or not!
SJensen: Yes okay That tells us that the software really needs to be updated Thanks for you help and I let you know if the software update helps or not!
My pleasure ... it was an interesting exercise ... and I got to understand my BV8-40 a bit better
Today I got my local B&O dealer to update my BV8 and the problem is now solved!
The employee really knew what he was talking about and the service was fantastic!
mickhoog:I don't mean to hijack but I was wondering those people who have Beovision 8 how has the quality of the tv set lived up over time ? With particular emphasis on the soft touch exterior. I love the curtains!
