Hi guys,

Happy holidays, I’m thinking about buying a used Beovision Avant and can’t remember all the pros & cons of the NG VS the OG one... I mean beside the NG running on the now old Android.

I mean more on,

4K panel difference?

HDMI specs & support difference?

Do all HDMI inputs are the same?

And then some,,,

Which version should I consider if I do decide to get one?

Pls help, lol

Dear Friend of beoworld!

difficult to say; I have/had them both and I would wish my first one to come back again

picturewise the new one is better and tunerwise  4K Integration has been done more properly (HVEC); I did not see any difference between HD and 4K on the old Avant

all the other Thinge - B&O Integration, menu, on screen Display have been gar better on the old one

e.g.: stand: old Avant remembered stand options for Audio and Video - new one does not; epg Guide one new one works terrible or Even not; Common Interface: old one Could handle two different cards- new one can not; TV Apps: old one did not have any - but new one does not offer anything better- so if you want to stream you would have to get a third party product

best regards

I was able to get a serial number of the one I was looking to buy.. does anyone here have access to look it up to see if it’s a NG or not?

I have the original Avant 55 and prefer it. It doesn’t have the android system with buggy B&O apps that crashes the entire tv now and then.

4K shines on it and I only use external sources (Apple TV 4K) so HVEC support in the tv itself is not necessary in any way since the external box decodes it properly and very well.

I enjoy the system fully and it’s display. The NG editions uses a cheaper display with a fixed backlit that isn’t zoned as the better backlit models. The older Avant is edgelit and does zone dimming. It’s better but of course not the best either.

All in all I’d say the original one is way better and NG is a model only introduced to save costs.

Completely agree - I had an Android BV (14), and the screen/ panel technology is worse than the Avant MK 1.

I wouldn’t underestimate how much the Android BV’s with their limited dimming is bad with dark scenes in movies and some TV programmes. It was good with sports but difficult to watch for plenty of other material.

The Avant MK 1 I have now instead is a much better all rounder.

And the operating system is rock solid

I have a serial number, would you guys be able to tell what version it is?

Whether it’s Mk1? Or NG?

If it starts 24***** it's a Mk1.

What are the first 4 numbers?

It's not even close - the MK1 is the better performer.

I was surprised how bad the newer screens were, in the Android BV's.

The choice of apps from the Google Play store is not comprehensive, so an external box is likely. In which case the MK1 makes even more sense.

Hi all. I'm a Mk1 owner. The Mk1 does not auto-wake when powering up a connected HDMI source.

Just wondering, does the NG power up automatically in this case?

Don't believe so

I had the BV14, and that behavior wasn't possible - and it was the same engine as the Avant NG

Not from sleep but it can be set to detect video on hdmi and switch accordingly. I have this set up for one device only - my PS4 pro.

It means that to toggle gaming I only have to grab my gaming remote and press the PlayStation button to turn it on, as it turns on the tv notices the hdmi feed and switches from whatever source I’m watching. Extremely pleasant and therefore no need at all to reach for the BeoRemote when gaming.
