Does anyone know if the RS-232 control connection for the monitor port connected with display one can operate a Panasonic PT-AX100U lcd projector? I’m only looking for on and off control.

Or perhaps asked another way - does anyone know if the RS-232 connection is generic enough that another tv/monitor/projector will accept the issued commands from the BeoSystem 3? If so, it could give my theater system an easier integration by keeping the IR signals in the equipment closet and route a comm cable to the ceiling projector. I would appreciate anyone’s experience here.

I found an outfit that will custom order a one-off cable for me for about $65. Before I waste my time (I may have already wasted my money), does anyone know if this will work?

With you using this as the main screen, I think you’ll be OK.

The protocol looks the same, and the serial port speed is the same. On/off commands and prefixes are the same (PON/POF) The only difference is the plug on the projector.

although not having tried it, so caveat emptor! Note that you need to tell the Beosystem 3 that you are using a B&O monitor so it will send commands through the serial port. Choose a relatively early display (with the correct resolution) to minimise all the extra commands the Beosystem 3 will send.

I’ve never used a projector, but if you choose one that can be switched on/off with HDMI-CEC, then you can do this with a serial cable and a raspberry PI. that’s how I drive a couple of Beosystem 3s with a LG and Samsung (respectively) monitor attached

I’m hoping the custom cable I ordered will be able to control the projector directly. I’ll see what happens next weekend, after it comes in. I don’t think the projector has HDMI-CEC control.

So here’s my stupid question of the day - can I just plug a mono cable between the BeoSystem 3 control output and the Oppo Blu-ray player IR input? If so, do I set it for IR or Plug?

If you have the PUC, set it for plug with no modulation

Thanks, that’s great information and will lead to a much cleaner installation, with less dangling wires.Big Smile

I tried connecting a stereo cable instead of a mono cable, changed to “plug without modulation” and it did not provide control. I’ll buy a mono cable soon and try again.

I’ll note the PUC, when used with IR, can provide control to a point. It will turn the Oppo off, skip tracks, pause and play, but will not turn it on. Any ideas?

That’s not a good sign; the stereo cable should work just as well. Maybe worth trying with modulation (although I’ve never seen that!).

as for on/off- does the remote have separate on and off buttons?

I changed the monitor to one of the later versions that supports HD and I was able to set the resolution to 720P for my projector. Now the projector can turn on and off from my BeoSystem 3!Lets have a Party !!!

I do note the video seems to have a little vibration to it - as if it’s shifting one pixel up and down rapidly. Does that make sense? Is there a way to correct this behavior?

I tried multiple B&O model settings, and some must have gone to a resolution my projector does not support. I had to reset several times to get it into safe mode. Mostly ok now.

I am also able to control my Sony Universal Disk player with the direct plug and PUC. Much cleaner than the IR blinker.

The problems I was having with the projector turned out to be the incompatibility of the default resolution from the B&O monitor settings. Once I found a compatible output, I was fine.

So now my BeoSystem 3 will lock up and not respond to remote control after a few minutes of use. If I power cycle, I get control back for a while. Had anyone had this problem? Any suggestions before I exercise my warranty?

I need to adjust the timing between the startup of the monitor (projector in my case) and the electronic curtains opening. Does anyone know how that is done? Is there a B&O monitor setting that had a longer startup time than the others, such as the BV4-50 D9 HD that I am currently using?
