Now, maybe you guys can begin to appreciate the true value provided by the Eclipse - which has 6 speakers in the sound center for far less $$$... Smile

What does it matter how we call it - as long as it does, what it is supposed to do for that product.

Agree - it might even be a pre-prototype system. Plenty of time for modifications and changes untill launch.

What (to me) is interesting, is that one of the pics seem to show several PowerLink connections.

So there will not just be WiSA/WPL connections.

In some reports only WiSA for 8 speakers was mentioned - and nowhere the TrueImage processing was mentioned.

MM

There is a tv - and there is a BV.

For me it matters because I follow their development and I’m interested in the technological design. Beosystem 4 is an A/V processor whereas the Beocenter in Eclipse is simply an audio processor and hdmi switch.

Since this new device looks a bit more like BeoSystem

4 I was thinking that maybe they are doing something new. And I also want a solution for projector and screen. I asked B&O and they replied that many third party solutions would be possible! I wouldn’t be surprised if the heart in this device is a new BeoSystem much like the core in the wall mount speaker is the “heart” of that system. Meaning maybe the new processor will be sold and made possible to use in more ways - again.

They also mention two more bass drivers than are seen in the pic with the lamellas off. Since I doubt the extra drivers are behind the moving speaker panels (the drivers would be firing backwards onto the screen in music mode), perhaps they're integrated in the stand's back cabinet?

Stereo separation in music mode makes me wonder: when the speakers are in the "closed" position, midrange drivers and tweeter are aligned pretty much on a vertical line at the center, and the tweeter drops down close to the floor.

Must take some DSP magic to get good stereo separation in music mode!

All in all an interesting product, and unapologetically modular with changeble LG TV and standard VESA mounting with an adapter plate.

In 65", I'm interested in this. 77" is way too big. Too bad there appears to be no rotation in the floor stand.

On reflection I think that this TV is going to be regarded as a classic B&O offering. OK, some of the movement seems pointless, but it is a mobile work of art! Wasn't it the same with the Beocenter 2 and similar products? Part of the joy of ownership was that starting-up opening..... when in reality the same could have been achieved with a slot loading CD mechanism.

I'm not sure about the price point, but isn’t this TV about 3 times the current cost of the LG screen on its own? That might be par for the course and even relatively cheaper than previous Beovisions.  The lack of a rotatable base or hinge is perhaps less important at 77”. Less space to rotate, and you are unlikely to be sat at such an angle to the screen that you can't get a clear view (unlike early small LCD screens).

Really don't get this, sorry Graham. I had a BeoCenter 2 for ages (actually only sold it last year) and the slow-ish opening never really gave me 'joy'. It's fine, and if you like that kind of thing, but no-one was particularly bowled over by that in 2018 - unless I now live in a parallel universe where we've gone back to 1998 and that kind of tech was modern, offered joy and impressed.

I do genuinely see why people are impressed with the Eclipse. You get a top panel and superb sound for a fairly 'reasonable' price. It's a good looking set, too. I just do not get why you need all the daft slow speaker movement on top. I don't get who this impresses?

I'd rather go out and get the 65" Eclipse....whilst it's still available!

Hi KMA- long time no see!

The question is, if the ‘streo seperation’ really is that important, when you listen to musik from a rather ‘one point system’, that a tv is.

You probably won’t even sit in front of the tv then.

For ‘stereo’ you’ll need a set of L/R speaker well positioned....and yourself well seated..

Imo sound from music/radio etc is more than just ‘stereo seperation’.....over the years B&O/the Acoustic Department has shown, that DSP’ing will play a major role in the way they make speakers. I guess it is more important to have these speakers in the vertical position, when listening to ‘video-sound’ from just the tv.

I’d rather wait to experience how it sounds in a domestical evironment. I - in general - would never mistake even excellent tv-speakers for a genuine set of bigger speakers listened to in an optimal sitting position.

I can't entirely disagree! Maybe the BC2 was not the best comparison, but I suspect that this TV will still have a mobile work-of-art attraction for many buyers. So it goes... never ending changes in taste..... who'd be a manufacturer in this strange world of trying to merge design and technology and guessing how tastes are changing?

1: I know we disagree........buy some additional speakers (or use some of those, that you already have) and a good listening chair placed in the sweetspot 😉

That will solve YOUR  problem.

2: of course i meant ‘horizontal’ - thanks for correcting me.

It’s kinetic art. Like saying I like movie musicals except for all the pointless singing and dancing Big Smile. Art is always what you take from it. Some appreciate what the artist is trying to do, and others find it to be wasted motion. That doesn’t mean that if you like it you are somehow defective, in denial, or otherwise in some state of regression.

But wouldn't that make the whole butterfly exercise kind of pointless and who is to say you can run audio mode wings aloft?

Ill guess we will know once the product is finalized.

From how it is described now, I wold suppose that you could ‘run audio mode’ with the speakers aloft....but I don’t know.

However, why not?

Yes, we will know (more) at some point.

I'm fine with how they have tried to make a massive glass panel look more interesting via moving panels, but they should have been able to move the tv, too.

I have a BV Avant 75 in a 130 m3 room, but there are so many large windows that the placement is limited - but with the planetary stand for the Avant 75/85 this is not a problem: I can have the oversized sofa facing the view and a tv that blocks parts of the view when in use. A 77 or 88 stationary glass panel? Sometimes reflections are so bad that I have to adjust the Avant's position to get rid of them.

One thing I'm not worried about is the sound quality - it will be stellar, for sure. Everything from B&O lately have sounded great.

Why is everyone assuming the large back is housing a beocentre system. Judging by the 77 inch TV and the chunky moving speakers which are also quite large covering maybe a 55 inch area combined - you need to have some serious mechnical parts, motors and pullley systems put SOMEWHERE.

The mechanics cant go on the TV panel  so the attachement at the back probably used 70% of that space for the mechanincal parts to move everyting and 30 % space left for the soundcentre /hmdi switch similar. Although looking at the timy speakers i dont think you need allot for that as your getting less speakers than an eclipse.

I agree there is no need for rotation given how big the TV is.

Because that’s where the pl sockets are and unlike the eclipse the tv doesn’t run custom firmware. So it’ll be basically like the dsse board in the eclipse but with more secondary capabilities like cec and (e)arc and menu overlays.

According to the what hifi article:

"B&O ... has bestowed upon the Beovision Harmony a speaker array featuring a one-inch tweeter, two 2.5-inch full-range drivers, a four-inch midrange/woofer and another pair of four-inch bass drivers."

So there's a pair of 4'' bass drivers that are not shown.  Possibly this picture is an early proto-type without all the drivers, or they're rear-facing somewhere...

So the 2.5" full-range drivers move from approx. 60" apart in TV mode to approx. 4" apart in closed (music)? mode.

I wonder how many buyers will end up leaving the speakers in TV mode all the time?

I adore the Beocenter 2 opening.

The slow motion opening of the Harmony is gorgeous, Zen and calming after a hectic day.

It's not your cuppa, but for others it is the opposite.

So much so I am trying to hunt down an excellent later version of the Bc2.

I don’t know yet, iam trying to figure it out and will let you know. If it’s basically an eclipse 1.2 then i don’t see why they’d ditch it but if it’s more of a 2.0 then i have no idea what they’ll do. LG tvs can control a big anount of stuff natively as it is and seems to work better and better as they progress through out the years. They have a sort of puc table too where you can pic exact models etc of what’s connected, so i would be too worried.

Since the introduction of the Avant in the nineties, the Beovisions has never started up quickly.

I don’t care about these few seconds. If the time to start up is the same as the older beovisions we had and are entertained in the meantime with the Harmony’s movement, then that’s a plus.

Lot’s of members did complain in the past about the missing curtains at the newer BV’s. So, now there is movement to look at.

I went to Milan and got to spend a few minutes in from of the Harmony.

The thing is massive, an amazing piece of machinery. It looks much better live than on the web site, in my opinion. On the web site, the oak and metal strips that compose the speaker blend in what looks like a bronze effect. It's not the case.

Unfortunately I could not visit the separate room used to demonstrate the audio features, it was too busy and unfortunately I had not much time to wait. And the person responsible was not exactly friendly, but this is Milan Design Week after all...

Here are a couple of videos (nothing you haven't already seen).

https://1drv.ms/v/s!Av5_7UYT_obmkTbnMBhvyHYbnF-7

Contrary to what I was told, there will be a wall bracket but due to the mechanism, the protrusion of the TV from the wall will be similar than when mounted on the floor stand.

Unrelated, with regards to the future sound bar, there will be a first one which will be a simple soundbar, no wisa/decoder or any of those features we are looking for. A second more advanced soundbar will be introduced later but the big issue for B&O is that while the Eclipse and the Harmony have some customisation to control both the sound center and the TV with the Beoremote One, this would not be possible with any connected TV (I think it's due to how ARC works in a standard setup - from the TV to the soundbar but not the other way round, but I might be mistaken) and for Struer it's a no-go to abandon full control of the TV experience in favour of a non-B&O remote or two remotes solutions.

Exactly, but that meat is a dying breed and fairly niche and unique, sadly. People just don't demand - in numbers - that kind of equipment in 2019. It's not enough to drive a retail store from, for example.

You should have bought mine. I sold it on eBay for about £200 and, ironically, the purchaser wanted a refund saying it wasn't for him and it was too convoluted.

There is a huge difference in the two but very happy with the quick start, comes on, rotates into position and picture appears within seconds.

Normal mode with the B&O logo however does take a while and rotates slower. Unsure why they have both modes, probably due reducing wear in a form of soft start.

If you only have the Harmony, then it is only a Mono speaker when listen to music.

But I would argue that all Beovision is like this, unless people sit very close to their tv.

When I use my Eclipse to music, I only use the Beolab 20,

I would guess a Harmony owner would too in most cases.

But if not, I agree with you, then it is only a good mono speaker.

Emil Jensen:
But I would argue that all Beovision is like this, unless people sit very close to their tv.

You and Millermissen should form the "mono" club. Big Smile

If you’r using third party receivers/devices, like I do (Sat-receiver Vu+Duo2), then you will have flickering screens when your BV shows a picture in a short time.

But after that my VU+ zaps at lightning speed when needed (Al Bundy’s relaxed mode) in contrary to the build-in stbmodule in my BS3.

I’m just wondering how more than one 3rd party devices are connected to the Harmony. Just one cable and sources switched by hdmi-cec or puc?

From what I’ve read about experiences with hdmi-cec is that it does respond slow and doesn’t work flawless. Despite the standard protocol.

Aussie Michael:

I start the BV14 and then get a glass of water and come back and it's just starting

Start my BV14 in the morning, make some coffee, do the laundry & ironing, mow the garden in the afternoon, take a shower and in the evening just in time to see the electronic curtain opening Surprise

On topic again: very curious to see the specs/numbers on the BeoVision HaveMoney Harmony..

Karel.

Hi everyone,

I thought this may give a new angle on the discussion - Llewelyn from the Ultimate B&O Facebook group joined me today for a video review of the history of B&O's moving TVs that led to the Harmony:

https://youtu.be/Y9Z9bHgFhmU

We also discuss the use of LG screens and software in B&O TVs, with comparisons to parts sharing in the motor industry......

Kind regards, Steve.

Thanks for sharing, Steve. Lovely to see some references of earlier B&O televisions in the video Smile
