Aussie Michael:

That dutch site reads that the Mk3 is with google home. So i wonder if it was waiting for a software update but there all the time (if it can be engaged like that)

That would make more sense than releasing yet another version of the A9.

Which also rules it out as forthcoming new product the dealer was enthusing about.

I was visualising something like the essence remote but with a screen to show the artwork for the song playing on, say, Deezer or the radio station logo.

It is I believe like a giant Essence remote. Screen I believe is a horizontal strip akin to that of the BS3500

...and people who don't want a d@#% microphone in their bedroom!  At least the Gen3 *claims* to do only room correction with the mic -- though whether or not it's good enough to actually measure or is just automating the 3-position switch (wall, corner, freespace) is a good question.  Cripes, you can't even run an A9 freestanding without giving it an internet connection.  I would make a ruleset for my router... [Edit OK, yes, Bluetooth transmissions rather than AirPlay you could take it off your network, but who in their right mind still uses BT for audio, Qualcomm employees excepted?]

OK - you may be right on that.

However, you don’t need to use the assistant and the mic can be turned off.....and maybe sometime soon the assistant also launches, where you/the potential buyer are right now.

Besides - I suppose, that the 3rd gen soon will be obsolete anyway.

(Personal note: I’d go for the 2nd gen......which still has support for Spotify Connect).

Hopefully Bang & Olufsen has decided wisely to use a good LCD instead of an OLED-display in the upcoming remote. Longevity of OLED based displays still doesn't seem to be on par with LCDs.

I'm looking forward to seeing the soundbars and the remote!

Utter utter madness. If I just bought the very recently announced 3rd generation, I'd be more than a little cheesed off B&O was casually announcing a '4th generation' a few months later.

Conspiracy theorists would probably argue that dancing with Google is more important than pissing a few A9 customers. My daughter talks to her Google Mini more than she does me and uses her A8 as a phone charger.

Wow!! B&O just beat its own record of the quickest EOL product ever! I'm not sure the A9 mkIII was already available at all dealers...

Strange decision to label it "mkIV" instead of "mkIII with Google Assistant", as there is nothing more than that. The BS2 is available with and without GA, and it's not labelled different marks... Maybe B&O is completely lost with marketing...

@Moxxey : any A9 is compatible with Chromecast, so if you have a Google Home Mini (always discounted at €30), you can do the same as a MKIV A9 (but ok, you have a separated Google Home Mini, not the full integration).

I wonder, if we will see the four small quick access/favourite buttons from the BS2/GA on the A9/GA too?

This maybe explains why I saw a Swedish dealer having a clearance sale of the A9 bronze third generation with around 15% off.

The My Buttons on the BRone do the same Smile

I never use the favorite buttons on my BS1 GA

I am sorry, but I’ll have to correct you there.

These buttons definitely are different (read: more) than the MyButtons on a BROne.

How they work, is explained by Christian in this video:

Fully understand the difference between the the shortcut buttons and the BRone mybuttons especially since I have a BS1 GA as I mentioned.

What I meant was that the BRone buttons could trigger the shortcuts in the event the New A9 does not have any shortcut buttons. The shortcuts must then be programmed in some other way than using a button, maybe through the app.

Time will tell.

Here’s the new A9 with the four Google dots featured in the middle. My guess: the GVA-Version wasn’t ready to market at the point they ran out of the A9 Mk2 stock. Hence the Mk3 “in between” model.

Dear Bang & Olufsen: Just do the right marketing and let your customers choose.

"Hey Bang & Olufsen customer, you're welcome to choose whether you want our great speakers/audio systems with or without an assistant!"

Choose from:

- BS 1
- BS 2
- A9
- ...

(EDIT):
Bang & Olufsen can benefit in 3 ways from offering/marketing both A9 (MK3 and MK4) simultaneously:
- Easier competition with fast changing technology
- customers can decide weather they want a bug (Google Assistant) in their home
- prevent damaging the brand and prevent the "Damn; I just bought it a few weeks ago!" reaction.

btw:
Googles roadmap seems to affect Nest users:
"Nest" thermostats, cam and protect will work until August 31, 2019 and than the "Works with Nest" program is retired.
https://www.engadget.com/2019/05/07/google-to-end-works-with-nest/?utm_campaign=homepage&utm_medium=internal&utm_source=dl

That's one of the reasons why I don't want my (smart) home to be dependent from Apple, Google etc. ...

So it is a different product to Mk3

Well it’s a Mk3 now with Google Assistant

To stand in defence of B&O, has this situation really arisen by the unrelenting and rapid shifts in technology and consumer demand? B&O is very small company.

You can turn off the microphone in these things though I guess.

They won't offer two versions though, one with and and one without - that's not going to happen. They are not going to manufacture 2 versions of every product.

I haven't used one of the newer GA enabled versions , but what I object to is being forced to sign in to Google in the setup process.

As for smart home ecosystems, I agree, its an evolving mess right now.

I personally wouldn't bother chasing my tail to build a "perfect smart home", what with stuff dropping in / out of ecosystem functionality, data and privacy issues etc etc.

It will be interesting to learn how the active room compensation will add to the sound.

Also, I noted that nothing is mentioned about any "shortcut buttons" so maybe that is not a feature that will be available for the A9.

The logo is a nice addition I think . I just wished I has reason to buy an A9 Smile

Hope that Deezer get their act together and get the service on Google Home for the nordic countries. That will increase my usage of Google Assistant.

Just to add a point re the A9 Mk4 BS1 BS2, there are some countries where GVA is illegal so this is why there are the two versions
