Hello everyone.
I hope to get some Information and advise about the cabling of the Beogram 8000 Tonearmcabling.
Following situation is given:
No sound on left channel
Tried to measure the coils of the MMC but only one coil is ok the other is high resistance about 0.5 MOhm.
Measured on the flexboard on the tangential board same measuring.
Took another MMC to compare , same measuring.
I've dissasembled the tonearm.
I've fiddled out the thin wires to the point where they go into the tonearm.
Measuring on the thin wires gives me the same value about 0.5 to 0.7 MOhm.
Now I'mat the point where i need to pull out the cartridge mount because in my opinion this is the last point where the wire could be broken.
The worst case would be a broken contact on the the cartridge mount
But how to pull it out ? I've read that hot water may be a solution.
Maybe there one of you who can sell me a working tonearm?
Thank you for your help .
Best regards.
Christian
Hi,
The Beogram 8000 tonearm is a lot harder to deal with than the Beogram 400x tonearm. The BG400x had a little adapter board and larger, color coded wires from that little board down to the cartridge connector. As you have discovered the Beogram 8000 has the tiny wires continuous to the the cartridge connector...and they are not color coded. When checking continuity in the wiring be aware that there is a muting relay at the DIN connection assembly that shorts the phono signal (Hi) wires to their respective Lo wires. You might de-solder and remove the relay temporarily and measure the continuity of the wires from the DIN connector assembly board to the phono cartridge connector.

One other thing to consider...Installing a different, working Beogram 8000 tonearm will also be a difficult task. You still have to route the wires through the tonearm base and over to the connections on the transport assembly.
If it turns out a wire is broken inside your tonearm then you will have to remove the tonearm to fix it. That means desoldering the wires from their attachment on the transport assembly and pulling them through the tonearm base and off with the tonearm. The phono connector is a little tricky to remove as it is glued in place. Alternating putting the tonearm in hot water and ice water will loosen the glue where the connector pulls out. If it is just a broken wire you can then fix it. If the phono cartridge connector is damaged then you will have to order a replacement from the Beolover Blog.
Thank you very much for your advice and your information of the tonearm contruction.
I've already demounted the tonearm, the slider couterweigth and pulled out the thin wires incl. the silicon hose inside the tonearm.
Sadly there is no broken cable outside of the tonearm and inside the tonearm as far i can look inside.
I can measure the lost connection between the end of one of the wire and the cartridge connector.
So I''ve to go the only way and pull the connector out of the tonearm with the hot water method.
I will have a try tomorrow and let you know my results.
Cross your fingers for me ;-))
Best Regards
Hello Everybody out there
First I held the Tonearm into cooking water to get the Glue inside the Tonearm loose, but there was no reaction, I cooled the Tip down with some cold Spray and put it again into the boiling water, coldspray again and one more time boiling water and the tip came out with some light pressure from a long Screwdriver.
After that I seperated the Top and downplate of the Cartridgeholder like shown in the next picture
As you can clearly see is that one of the very thin gold plated wire has come of the soldering point.
The Wires are fixed with some Glue at the end of the Cartridgeholder.
I realy don't know how this could happen, but anyway I've found the mistake in the wireing.
After resoldering I started to reassemble the Tonearm.
I've had to get the Wires through the Silicontubes and around the Tonearn Pivot.
While fiddeling around with the Wires one broke and I could start from scratch.
I took some new Wires from an old relay wich I found in my workbench, good to know that everything is needed sometimes ;-)) so don't throw it away.
The Wires have to be very thin beause thicker Wires could be to strong in the Tonearmpivot and there would be no free movement for the Tangential movement and the Lowering of the Tonearm.
I twisted 5 Wires to one handy cable Chassis GND, LEFT, LGround, RIGHT, RGround
Here are some Pictures of the way I took.
Balanceweight in all parts
Balanceweight mounted, the long Siliconetube runs over the Balanceweight.
Balanceweight mounted and Tonearm mounted.
Beware to keep the small GND Latch to the RIGHT corner, because later the Tonearm won't lower when the Black Plastichub come on.
Here it is wrong.
The plate wich connects the Tonearm to the Pivot.
In the Meantime I reassembled the rest of the Tonearm without taking more pictures because I had no free hand for the camera.
One Tip is to glue some thick tape at the Bottom of the hole near where the cabling comes out of the Pivot to not damage the new cabling while handling the Tonearm to get it in plcae.
You have to pull the cabling very smooth to get it good in place.
And remember to take some Photos even from disassembling to know later how the cabling runs through the Pivot.
I didn't take Pictures and made first the wrong way ;-))
But now everything seems to run as it should.
Both Coils can be measured at the Flexcable.
Another thing you have to look for is that you reglue the Cartridgeholder back in place and put it about 0,5 -1 mm into the Tonearm otherwhile the Cartridge will not fit perfectly to the tonearn, there would be a small Gap, not a big deal but...
I hope you enjoyed this little Journey and had some fun with my broken English.
A very nice repair indeed!

Very nice indeed. As I said earlier, the Beogram 8000 phono connector replacement is much more difficult than a Beogram 400x so congratulations.A tip on reinstalling/regluing the cartridge connector is to fit an old cartridge on the connector as you glue the connector back in. That will define the limit of how far in to press the connector.
Hi Dillen and Sonavor
Many thanks for your praise and the Tip with the old Cartridge for mounting the Cartridgeholder.
I've an old Cartrigde for alignment but I was a little scared if the old Cartridge would stick on the Cartridgeholder because the glue comes to somewhere I could not see ;-)).
The Gap is only a very thin stripe and can only be rcordnised when you can compare to another Beogram.
I don't want to change the Position anymore.
So best Regards to you all.
