I bought a cheap but faulty Beosound 8 a month ago, thinking the problem would be the long time without usage, and that an old iPod would bring it to life.

And it did. Sort of. The keypad had no control, and the light never came to life. The only control was on the old iPod.

So I thought that I might as well turn it off and dismantle the hole thing.

And just as I hoped. The ribboncable from the keypad to the main board had snapped out of its socket.

So now I think I have diagnosed it...

But.

Where do I find a new spare part? This might be a common part. But where should I buy it?

Find out what the pitch and length is and goto Digikey.Com,-  just to name one.

Flat flex, Ribbon jumper cables.

Another option is to simply replace the ribbon cable with regular soldered wires, not at the actual connector area but rather where you have some space to solder down the wire.. the signal usually originates somewhere a bit away from the connector.

I don’t want to try the soldering option, as I don’t have much experience with precise soldering.
