Been looking around for some kind of decent HDMI to SCART (RGB output) and while there several cheap ones available for around 15-26 Euro range from the same manufacturers which produce the SCART to HDMI converters which only makes use of the SCART CVBS instead SCART RGB - I would like to reach out if anyone here has a suggestion for a decent converter/scaler?
Well, it might be easier to find hdmi to s-video converters which at least provides far better picture image compared with composite video. Anyone have suggestion for devices?
Out of curiosity, what do you need it for, perhaps there is another way?
Hey Kim, I explored this exact scenario a couple of years ago as a way of extending the life of my SCART only B&O gear. The generic HDMI to composite/svideo adapters are universally average due to the limitations of the low res signal.
I highly recommend one of these

Pair it with with a HDMI VGA adapter and you are golden. The RGB signal you want is 15khz 480i/576i which can be easily generated with a Raspberry Pi. People write off Beovision 5's as essentially worthless but I was astonished with mine once I had this up and running. Razor sharp, deep blacks and super punchy colours. Try it out.. you will be amazed with the results !
I'll try that out as well to connect the Beosystem 3 to my old avant. Sounds like a good solution! Thanks!
Do you know if on the B&O TV it automatically adjusts the screen to 16:9? - I've been using one of the cheaper ones for my BV6 in the bedroom - resolution is not good with Apple TV for text, but okish on a small screen for movies. Problem is that everytime I switch it on I have to then select Format 3 - tried all settings in the setup on both the TV and Apple TV but still end up having to manually switching to Format 3.
May I ask how exactly you generate the 15khz signal from a video processing engine? Kai

A solution to that may be a Beo5/6 which can adjust the format automatically based on source selection on top of controlling the Apple TV and the Beovision.

You'll need something that sets pin 8 of the SCART to 6V (actually 4.5 - 7V) - this should automatically set the TV to 16:9.
(EDIT: It may already be trying to do this, but will only work if your SCART lead is fully wired, i.e all pins connected - have you checked?)
Hi Guy - no the output from the converter only outputs Video and Audio L/R - I think as the TV is getting quite old, I'll probably look at replacing it in due course, thanks though for the replies.
That's the path that most of us go sooner or later. However, I still stick to my old Avant 32 RF because it is such a beautiful furniture - much better than any flat screen that I have seen. But it is all a matter of taste, I guess. I mean, B&O has done fabulous flat panels, but the old CRTs were in their time way more ahead of their competition in terms of style.
I'd still like to know, how you put that solution of jordanius to practice. Most of us will use some AV processing machine and I'm not too sure whether those are able to put out 15khz.
Kai
Totally agree about the Avant - my old one was better than my BV8 at most things other than displaying text from Apple TV and not having an HDMI socket.
maybe this can help you:https://www.analogue.co/dac/

@manbearpig - You can generate a true 15khz RGB signal with a raspberry pi by adding two lines to the config.txt file as described here
https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/config-txt/video.md
To get 16:9 576i on my BV5 I use
hdmi_group=1hdmi_mode=22
To everyone who is linking to the generic hdmi->scart adapters remember that scart is just a connector which supports a number of standards. These cheap adapters use composite or svideo. The only way to improve the picture is by seeking out something such as a PI which can output a RGB signal. Think of RGB as being like VGA with separate lines for the red/green/blue versus composite with all picture information being mashed together and transmitted down a single wire. The difference is night and day.
I see, but that's a rather special solution then, isn't it? It only allows for a particular source and most of us will run different setups with different sources, but still needing such converters. My source is the Beosystem 3. With that, the solution apparently doesn't work then?
Cheers,
Hi all, I am too finally looking at this. Really cant bring myself around to getting rid of my Beovision 5 at home so am moving this to my office but need to bring it inline with 2020.
So is anyone aware of a YouTube video on installing a Raspberry pi to a Beovision and what products would i need to purchase? It would be so much easier to watch and follow rather than trying to do this from someones written experienced knowledge?
Appreciate your help.
Alvin
Hello jordanius,
Many thanks for your post, it is very interesting, I just purchase a fantastic Beovision 5 only with scart and for now I use it with a simple HDMI to scart converter (https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B01AO0XC7I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).
This is correct but could be better, of course, I was unable to find a HDMI to RGB scart and I will certainly get what you suggest
and pair to a HDMI to VGA (probably a HDFury).
However, I had also in mind a Rasberry Solution (for example http://arcadeforge.net/Pi2Jamma-Pi2SCART/PI2SCART::264.html)
but it seems, it cannot work as I understand, this can work ONLY if the Rasberry is the source, in my case, I use a Google TV as HDMI source and the idea was to use the Rasberry + Pi2SCART as the HDMI to RGB converter.
Can you confirm this is a wrong solution?
In this case, I will go for UMSA solution, have a good day
Loic
(Beovision 6-22, beovision 7-32, beovision 10-32 and for just 1 week a beovision 5)

hello, I have to do this too did you try UMSA + fury hd 3 and did it work?
Hi Daniel,
Actually, this solution did not work, especially the part with Umsa scart adapter, this item require 15 khz as vga input and was unable to find out how to get it, I still have the adapter and I can sell it :-)
I also purchase a HD Fury 3 (HDMI to VGA + sound) which did not work properly but I was able to return it.
I thought I had an alternative solution when I found a adapter 5 RCA (RGB + sound) -> Scart but the adapter from Conrad did not work also....
At the end, I used a hdmi --> S-video + sound which is better that CVBS, it just require to use the beovision with camrecorder input. With that Beovision 5 is now just fantastic and I was lucky to get it for a very good price!
Maybe it helps you to have a look at the professional av/broadcasting solutions from e.g. Gefen, Blackmagic Design, Matrox etc. They're built to do their job reliable(!) even in harsh movie production environments. Here's a Google translated version of a german provider to have a small overview:https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=de&tl=en&u=https://teltec.de/kamera-produktionstechnik-konverter-processing/?p%3D1Examples:
1.) Gefen HDMI -> S-Video & Composite converter:https://www.gefen.com/product/hdmi-composite-s-video-scaler-GTV-HDMI-2-COMPSVIDSN
2.) Roland Video converter (discontinued, Example):https://proav.roland.com/global/products/vc-30hd/As you can see there could only be a small problem due to the BNC connections featured on many of the professional devices: You'll need cable adapters from e.g. the BNC connection (like the ones seen on the Roland device) to your TV / scart plug etc.
The problem is finding these equipments have been discontinued for years.
Gefen EXT-DVI-2-RGBSS this seems to be the best solution, ordered one.
I am a computer technician it is not a problem to build a cable.
then I'll watch a movie and put some photos of the finished work.
