Hi - when I switch the Beocord on there is a sqeal which seems to be associated with the motor - i.e. a mechanical squeal not a "sound" squeal. Before I "dis-assemble" has anyone any suggestions. Will be gratefully received. I am a COMPLETE non-techy. Thanks.

Yes, the motor needs lubrication. That one is easy to work on, just mark the different parts before opening it. Everything is screws together.

If the magnet is in the wrong position, the motor will turn the wrong way around...

Do not use any old oil, but special sintered brass bearing oil (Mobil DTE). Steer clear of 2in1 and WD40!

You will also need new belts. I believe only Dillen has them, although I'm not sure his kit is finalized.

Wash out with iso alcohol, when dry apply Deoxit and move over full range a couple of times, leave for 5-10 min, clean again, let dry, done.

The best you can do is taking it apart to clean it. I'm afraid anything else is illusory. As said before, just spraying will work for a while... or not!

That will work, yes, Søren. For some time? But then if you really want to do it properly, you know what to do! Of course, it's much more difficult. But a 1600 is not a 4400 Angry, so I reckon it's quite feasible.

By the way, Søren, what's up?

Absolutely, take them out, and then, depending on type, take them apart, but some types like BM 901, BM 4/4000, are open enough to clean without taking them apart, on these I use iso alc. and a pipe cleaner, and really wash them out, the Deoxit (not spray) from a bottle, on a pipe cleaner will clean of oxidation.

And I'm waiting, waiting for my parts for BM 4400, BG 1202, and wating to go up to McAllen TX to pick up BG TX2, Bvox P45s, and some more tools and small pieces. The parts from DK was send 4 weeks ago, may take up to 6 weeks, thanks to Mexican customs, and it drives me crazy.

I hope the P45s comes without loose magnets, but if yes, it will be an interesting job, the TX2 looked like a wreck, so also there, a lot of fun before that one will be up and working, it comes with a broken MMC2, so I will have to do some negotiating with Axel, to change it with a MMC4.

When the DK parts are there, I can get my BM 901, Bvox 1600 and BG 1202 set up, will look beautiful together. And then back to the BM 4400

So I'm doing absolutely nothing, just waiting, waiting, well, I did make a database for all my B&O, bought where and when, prize, S/N and type,

Can't believe it - after all excellent replies I was about to buy all those "stuffs" for cleaning and to take a VERY deep breathe. Switched it on and before doing anything squeal just disappeared - completely! BUT will bear in mind your comments for future. Many thanks All!!! Merr Xmas - or whatever festivity you may celebrate in your culture.

Probably the belt which finally engaged!

But then yes, a lubrication will be needed, as well as a new belt ;-)
