Hello,

Friend bought a new A1 and it sounds bad. Distorted sound. Not pirate copy from China. B&O refuses to replace but made it after several tries, the new one sounds just as bad. He already have a several year older A1 just like me and that one and mine sounds much better.

It seems like they changed something but B&O say it’s the same, however it sounds like it’s something broken or changed. The app and firmware doesn’t make any difference either. Anyone else notices anything like this?

Beolab 50, Beolab 8000 x 2, Beolab 4000 x 2,
BeoSound Core, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound Century,
BeoLit 15, BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay P2, BeoPlay H9 3rd Gen, BeoPlay H6, EarSet 3i,
BeoVision Eclipse Gen 2 55", BeoPlay V1-40,
BeoCom 6000 and so much else :)

No it’s beige/brown. Here’s a video with how it sounds

Maybe the broken case fault? Take off the outside cover and look for cracks where the screws hold the black plastic parts.

I have one of the original A1's and love it, but it does suffer from distortion. I can play certain Spotify tracks and some cause it to distort. Never get that issue on the BeoSound 2 with the same audio track. Oddly I find the P1 suffers from less distortion, so often use that instead.

I have two early A1s.  I have never heard it distort.

But i haven't played either of them for a year, so maybe i should try them again.

Hope it gets resolved very soon for your friend. It's frustrating.  Especially if you actually recommended that device to them.

To illustrate PaulGiles recommendation, this is how I fixed mine following advices found in this forum. I filled the screws holes with cotton (my choice) and put a tape on the holes, bass “farting” symptom disappeared and my A1 sounds like the first day:

BS Moment, BS Core, BG 4002, BC 4500, BS1, BL18, BL19, BL8000 + RCV1, A6, M5, M3, A1, P6 (tks Botty), H5, TR1

Thanks! I forwarded this to my friend who is in South Africa. We both have the older A1 too and they don’t sound weird. I don’t find that it distorts really either but it adapts to the volume so on high levels bass is weaker but the new one sounds like it’s farting yes. Haha. So weird!

Yep, very well explained. The plastic deterioration is the cause of distortion.

Hi there,

Is there something specific about "early" A1's? Is there such a thing like MK1 or MK2 etc?
I only noticed they changed the package design at some point.
