Bang & Olufsen App 2.11 (beta / prod)

Dear app users, here's is a summary of some comments I could find in previous app related thread that are still valid with the new app iteration.

I may have missed some, or some have been fixed since, so feel free to update the list while keeping all the items grouped for better reading (copy paste with changes).

 

Hopefully someone in B&O still reads this forum and cares.

 

Issues (new, re-introduced and on-going):

 

  • Cannot get the app to control BeoSystem 4500 and BeoSound 2300, each connected to an NL/ML converter.
  • Apps freezing when Internet access is not available while local network access to products is functional.
  • Now playing screen: moving forward/backward within a DLNA track does not work as it should
  • Now playing screen: when changing a DLNA track, album cover is not displayed back until now playing screen is minimized/maximized
  • Music browsing: back and more buttons are not visible when artist/album image background is white 
  • Music browsing on iPhone: top artist/album image overlaps top screen informations
  • Beolink settings: When disabled, Integrated devices monitoring option does not stay disabled after app restart (case opened by mbolo01 - Dec 2019)
  • Now playing screen: icon depicting the product flashing for a fraction of a second.
  • Previous play queue is not emptied prior to load new items if a radio source has been played previously
  • IOS 3D Touch "shutdown all" option does not do what it is supposed to do but simply opens the B&O App (case opened by mbolo01 - Dec 2019)
  • Multiroom icon not always displayed against products member of a multiroom experience
  • Play queue: When inserting music track(s) to a product play queue, the play queue is emptied prior to loading new content to it which is the correct behavior, but when a TuneIn radio has been played after a music source, loading new music content to the product no longer clears the play queue but instead inserts the new track(s) after the latest music track played (case opened by mbolo01 - Dec 2019)
  • Cover-Art is not displayed when using Airplay while it is when using other music sources such as Chromecast or DLNA.

 

On-going requests for enhancement by BeoWorld forum members:

 

  • Lack of virtual keyboard for the Eclipse when a menu where text input is required is encountered, e.g. search field
  • Split view and slide over on the Apple iPad
  • Deezer Flow
  • Possibility to reduce local source list in the now playing screen
  • Genre overview - with much smaller pictures per Genre, so that you see more content without scrolling, e.g to follow the Deezer design (as you did with Artists using round circles instead of squares). Deezer is using small rectangle instead of squares for displaying genre.
  • Clearer multiroom screen, you see all groupings at once, without changing selected products
  • Possibility to alias sources' names, e.g change BS Core "Line In" to "BG 4000"
  • More consistency across screen designs, e.g.  when you choose "show all“ at "Deezer Selection“ the displayed list looks different than all the other lists displayed at  "show all“, why?
  • Now playing screen: changing track by pressing on the image is far too sensitive, lack of inertia
  • Dark mode

Very good summary.

It's a pity that B&O apparently doesn't pay any attention anymore :(

On the one hand, I can understand that MrAndersen is no longer active, with all those negative comments in the forum about the App. On the other hand, I can understand all users who are very disappointed by the App. Working on this list of mbolo01 would be a step in the right direction.

The version 2.11 is available. It's incredible how well the Bang&Olufsen App management team is setting the right priorities. They managed to change the logo background for the B&O App and the loading spinner. Surprise I'm impressed, these are really the most important changes that were necessary to increase the rating of the B&O App and will convince all frustrated users. Great work, just keep it up, that will make Bang&Olufsen really great again! Smile

For 2020 I have one big wish, that all above listed features / bugs of mbolo01 and jvezina are solved by B&O.

PLEASE solve this issue PLEASE !!!

In order to safeguard my / our B&O assets when Bang & Olufsen get‘s bankrupt, it should be in all our interest to secure that we are still able to use (change settings / manage multiroom) our Bang&Olufsen products without running B&O servers / B&O back-end. Else we suddenly have electronic luxury scrape in our living rooms from one day to the next.

Unfortunately the possibility is high, that B&O is running out of cash, when B&O goes on like heavily loosing revenue.

So B&O please safeguard your existing customers assets, as highest priority. Perhaps they may buy more B&O equipment, if you can proof that your equipment is running without B&O servers. Like me, I would buy more B&O loudspeakers for my multiform set-up, but not knowing if I can still use it in case Bang & Olufsen A/S goes bankrupt, I will not buy! And I can't recommend it to anyone else.

It would be great, if the B&O could display the Cover-Art within the B&O app when using Airplay. When using Chromecast it is working great, the Cover-Art is shown. Why not when using Airplay? The information is available in the Airplay stream.

It would be great, if the B&O could display the Cover-Art within the B&O app when using Airplay. When using Chromecast it is working great, the Cover-Art is shown. Why not when using Airplay? The information is available in the Airplay stream.

I have added the issue to the list.

I don't think B&O are following this forum anymore. I'll raise the issues to the B&O support and I encourage you to do the same, the more we are, more chances to have an opportunity for a fix or an enhancement.

I have installed it.

I can’t see any difference to version 2 to be honest.

However I don’t have any Bluetooth devices which appears to be the focus of improvements.

No big changes, small design things and better setup/bluetooth support among few others.

Maybe Mr Anderson is willing to rejoin the community with first hand feedback!

On this rainy day I might be over optimistic but have good faith B&O is pursuing all software issues to be solved.

Constant and positive feedback between the development team and the forum should be a valuable first improvement to restore again.

Just installed it, no improvements that are impacting me and old and very old issues are still there with a few exceptions.

Still unacceptable design mistakes.

What 3.00 is supposed to fix:

Bluetooth stability
New setup experience
Refreshed tonetouch
Refreshed input fields
New landing pages

Some are unclear to me ... as usual

What do you mean? All NL tv’s are supported by the app from day one

Thanks. I was looking into a horizon and checked the threads on this forum. There are several ones saying that multiroom with the app is not fully supported.

Can you anyone shed light what works and what doesn’t. What i’m hoping for would be to have a horizon symbol in the app, can start dlna or other music (without turning on the screen), can join to other nl speakers, can join from other nl speakers. Does this work and anything that is not working.

That is not possible, in all cases tv first has to be on and then select any source on tv which you can send to other multiroom devices. Speakers connected to the tv can only be sourced through the tv being powered on. It is possible to switch the screen of through remote/app but that’s it.

In real life it works very nice indeed. The bonus of beovision in the multiroom setup is being able to use the very divers sound settings of the dsp inside the beovisions. You can create multiple speaker groups and different roles of each speaker connected to the tv. This is not possible with a Moment, Core or Essence.

If you want to get the best out of your beolabs, get them connected to a beovision!

Got it. But as per your previous post, i cannot just “join” via the app? It will still require me to use two devices: 1) b&o app to select music and select which audio NL devices to join (e.g., BS1), 2) Remote to turn on the beovision to join the audio stream. That’s not even a general “join”, but i’d need to select an NL device what stream to join from.

That’s not even a general “join”, but i’d need to select an NL device what stream to join from.

You can join the tv through the app also, see the app as a second remote. You need to put the tv on, by pressing join on either remote or app the tv turns on and automatically joins the source you are playing. You can set specific sound and speaker group for that source so no other actions to be conducted. Only if you want the screen directly put to black you need to do that manually. On the earlier Beovision OS (BV11/12/V1/Avant 55 mk1) you can preset this also, so no screen on. The tv itself needs to be on so to have fastest bootup time you best set quick start timers in your tv.

Best advice is to go to a dealer and ask a demonstration. Yes all is possible, in the app you can press power down button and all devices are turned of, or power down devices individually. Be aware that there are so manny combinations possible that there is no single press for every scenario.

The app is being battered a lot on the forum but in my opinion not all comments are valid, due to the many scenario’s possible. I have a lot of equipment and find the app as helpful as the remotes and use them randomly together. In case only one modern BS or Beoplay needs to be operated I can understand the app feels to complex. So best advice, go see for yourself and see what scenario you want to run is workable with the app.

Last comment, if you have a BV you will automatically use the Beo One remote more than the app I think.

You can also control the BS1/2 and Moment with it and the Core might also be the case but not sure 100%

I also use both the app and my remotes - I’d really miss the app, if it was not there.

And I agree....everyone should find a workable way of dealing with it.

And I do understand that people with a single device and/or just some BT headphones would find it overkill
