Sounds like your RJ/PL adapter cable is wired with only one audio channel -

I'd measure the pins or test another cable.

Hope this helps.

Welcome to Beoworld.

Sounds like a cable problem to me. I would change both cables just to rule out any cable issues.

There is a known issue when connecting BL5 to a Core. You need to use Powerlink and Digital cables. The powerlink switches on/off and volume regulates, the digital cables provide the sound. I found this out when the Core first came out and this was then the solution on how to connect when using a Core.

You also need to configure Core;

- Open the Bang & Olufsen app -> Press the cogwheel icon -> Go to "Your products" -> Select your product -> Configure -> Sound -> Optical output -> Disable "Volume regulated output"

- Open the Bang & Olufsen app -> Press the cogwheel icon -> Go to "Your products" -> Select your product -> Configure -> Sound -> Optical output -> Select "48 kHz"

- Open the Bang & Olufsen app -> Press the cogwheel icon -> Go to "Your products" -> Select your product -> Configure -> Sound -> Speaker setup -> Select "Beolab 5"

Note: The Beolab 5 needs to be in option 0 which is the default option.

I hope this helps, not sure why the issue exists with an Essence?

Regards

Stuart

There is a known issue with BL5 and BS Core. You need to use Powerlink and Digital cables. I found this out a few years ago when the Core first came out. The Powerlink provides volume regulation and on/off. The digital cables provide the sound.

You also need to configure the Core.

- Open the Bang & Olufsen app -> Press the cogwheel icon -> Go to "Your products" -> Select your product -> Configure -> Sound -> Optical output -> Disable "Volume regulated output"

Note: The Beolab 5 needs to be in option 0 which is the default option.

I hope this helps you and others. Not sure why the Essence doesn’t work? Double check you PL cables as well.

Hi

There is a known issue with BL5 and BS Core. You need to use PL and digital cables. PL provides volume control and on/off and the digital cables provide sound.

Note: The Beolab 5 needs to be in option 0 which is the default option. I hope this helps you and others. Also double check your PL cables, set L/R etc.

Hi Gady,

Welcome to Beoworld!  You do need an optical to co-axial audio converter like this one (as Stuart from B&O Ealing mentioned above):-

https://soundsheavenly.com/tv-input/180-optical-to-analogue-audio-converter-with-volume-control.html

This will link the digital input of the speakers to the optical output of the Core, this connection will be needed as well as the usual RJ45 to Powerlink cabling.

Kind regards, Steve.

Hi Gary, not sure if you got your problem fixed. You need power link mark II cable between the beolab 5 (the thick fully wired one). You can get it from steve.

Hi,

Thanks @alebouthillier, but the converter that is mentioned in the thread above is required, Beolab 5 won't work correctly with a Core unless the setup described above is used.  Fully wired Powerlink cables are also needed, I can supply these but I apologise that I don't stock the converters.

Kind regards, Steve.
