Figured out the upload now.

I can add a folder. I get no error message, it's just not obvious at first look that a folder was created but I can
see the folder when I choose files to include in a post. I can't figure out how to upload or move
files to the folder, though.

Well done Martin, I agree we need to make this a little clearer.

However, I can confirm that there is still an issue which I have not completely tracked down yet.

I have determined that when Mexking goes into the directory he creates, he does get a 404.11 error which means

"The request contained a double escape sequence and request filtering is configured on the Web server to deny double escape sequences"

Whilst I can change the double escape permissions, it does not answer why it only effects one or two users.

So, more research into this problem is needed.

Regards Keith....

Keith Saunders:

Søren Mexico:

PC, Vista, Firefox 10, in replies the adds are all the way to the left, in forum right in the middle

After doing a few tests it appears that the issue you are seeing is linked to some (but it appears not all) versions of Firefox, rather than the forum.

Not exactly sure at this stage exactly what is happening and this will need further investigation.

I mentioned the same issue when we were testing some other version earlier and that was several Firefox versions ago.

Seems that in reply mode, the <div> with id "container" (the light blue area) is closed before the footer with the ads begins, and when they drop outside of it, the styling won't apply to them. The lowermost part of the blue background aligns to the left edge as well. In other pages, the footer part with the banners comes before that div is closed.

EDIT: removing one </div> before the post form closing tag and one </div> after it seems to slide the layout into place. I guess they need to be added back somewhere after the banner section to keep the page syntactically correct. This information courtesy of Firebug's on-the-fly editing feature Big Smile

Any chance of having forum posts sorted ascending and PM's descending ?
I find it quite frustrating to roll all the way through a long PM conversation to get to the point of interest.

And why do my own images, inserted into posts, suddenly not show anylonger ?
They have become nothing more than a filename at the post header that I have to click to see the image
(and then click back to get back to the thread).

Do our name have to show BOTH above the avatar at the left side AND right next to it, on top of each post we make ?

I re-post it here as i have already gave my thought on the new forum so far, on another thread.

I admire Keith's work on the new website and the many issues he solved. But i have to admit at this time that i participate in both forums, the old one is by far more tasty in terms of colours and even more clear in distinguishing two answers. Overall the look's of the new forum are medium to bad for my taste. Here is a comparison screenshot i took.

The old forum was way better than this in numerous key areas.

I never had any issues posting on the old site & so I dont see any improvement at all. In fact the old site was quicker for posting for me at least.

This new forum looks basic and cheap as Joeyboygolf & Dr Dimitris have said - and is definately a lot more awkward to use!  In fact I cant be arsed trying to set up my profile, text size, avatar blah blah.

Same here. Old forum looked cleaner and was easier to use, and easier on the eye.

I remember when we changed from the forum before last and everyone complained. The main reason for the change is that members with higher post counts, in other words, the ones who answered questions or contributed greatly to the forum were unable to post.

Human nature dictates that we don't like change but give it a month, you'll get used to it and complain if the forum reverted to the previous layout.

If you think nobody cares, try missing a couple of payments.

Didn't the old forum display the time of a post in local time? New forum does not seem to do that?

Short memory  you have on this here Stonk. The previous change was rejected for the layout and colours and finally we ended to the old forum which was embraced by the majority of the posters. Since i was a beta-tester i can say that after a month i am not at all used to it or even like it.

Well, I can also admit that I liked the layout of the old forum a lot more, and it will take me considerably longer than a month to get used to this (if ever).

However, the choice wasn't about layout any more; it was about having a forum that works, or not. This is what we have now (I'm sure it can be tweaked in the future, doing everything at once would've taken forever), and I'm much happier on the whole.

Thanks Keith for all the hard work, you've put into this. Greatly appreciated.
I could have wished that all this effort was put into another type of forum software, though.

I can post again without the annoying timeouts, that's great.
I can't find my way around and I've completely lost the overview, that's not great. Like Mika, I think it will
be a long time before I find myself at home again. Actually I doubt, it will happen at all but I will give it a chance
just as I did the last time but I fear the result will be the same.

I know that Keith works hard to correct and adjust and I can think of hundreds of issues but even with those
all fixed, it will never be a prof. working and looking Beoworld forum. Period.

Call me grumpy, you won't be the first, but this circus is what we have now.
We've discarded it once before and I seriously hope it will be replaced again very soon.
It's not just difficult to navigate and use, it's also downright ugly.

I agree absolutely with Martin. I've already lost interest in the forum, what used to be a pleasure is now tedious and irritable.

This surely cannot be the best forum software on the market.

It is not convienient to read or navigate.

Thanks Mika and Martin. I completely agree.

Posts and knowledge over years gone in a read-only archiv...

Including active dicussions. I`m wondering if it wasn`t possible to transfer  the latest active threads let`s say since jan. 01.2012 to the new forum...?? Would have made some conversations much easier. I started a discussion in the nordic forum - which is now called "skandinavian" again (?) - about MLGW and KNX that was just broken down including my last post. We now continue via pm.

And yes, sorry to say, but designwise the forum is so s_xy like the user interface of a korean stb.

Maybe this looks more "beostylish":

http://www.beoforum.dk/

http://www.dream-multimedia-tv.de/board/index.php

And at last can I get my posts and the "f" back...?

Thanks.

That Beoforum site is very cool, quick and pleasant on the eye. No nasty colours or daft Avatars. Easy to navigate with minimal key entries.

Clearly a huge amount of work went into the new forum. And that effort is appreciated.

But I agree with others, the navigation is cumbersome. In the old forum I could open up the main forum page, scroll to the bottom and see if there were any new posts in the Beosound 5 and Beo5/6 forums, which many times there were not as from the main forum page it was possible to see the most recent post. Then scroll back up to the top, click on the general forum and then scroll through the the posts to see what was new in the general forum.  To put it briefly, I could quickly scan all forums for new posts and then one click took me to general forum to look through it.

To do the same now:  Step 1 open forum. Step 2 Click on view more. Step 3 click on Beo 5/6 forum.  Step 4 would be to click on Beosound 5 forum but there does not appear to be a Beosound 5 forum?  Step 5 click on general discussion.

4-5 selections to do what previously could be done with one.

I also appreciate the effort, but it's really obscure to lose all your posts, your status and your post number. I look like a basic, novice user who's registered for the first time.

I always thought that the beauty of a forum was the community you build up over a period of time. We've lost most of this?

Plus the font is too small on my large (27") screen, even in Large mode. I barely can read this whilst I type. I don't mean the browsing font, I mean the font used to enter words in the forum. Even in Enhanced mode, changing the font size doesn't work.

As a quick remedy for tiny fonts (which apparently only happen with certain configurations), you might want to see if your browser allows setting a minimum font size.

For example in Firefox, depending on the version, you should find it somewhere like Tools | Options | Content | Fonts and colours | Advanced...

This is independent from the general font size setting that affects everything, it just sets a lower limit under which the font size will never go. Pretty useful outside of Beoworld, too.

Nope, not for the text entry box - here's it's still about 10pt, even though I have it set to Large (which is ample for reading the forum).

The font option in the drop down doesn't work here either.

One other small thing - you can't see a complete list of the discussion pages on the forum front page. For example, this is now the 8th page, but on the homepage page 3 is listed as the "last page". You then have to click this and then "Last page" on the discussion to get to the latest post.

On the main forum page it is always necessary to scroll down to navigate into one of the (sub) forums.

The first half of the page is filled with the latest posts, unanswered etc.

It would be neater and easier (for me) if the entry points to the forums were at the top.

Hi: My searches of archived postings are non-productive. For instance, when I enter into the archived BeoGram forum search box, '8000', I get this:

'8000 AND sectionid:29' and no postings relating to the BeoGram 8000 or any other 8000.  Please advise.
