It’s been a while, guys...

Time for a new project.

The plan is to build the motherboard from a google home mini into an old Beolit 12.

I am almost there, just sorting out the final fitting, glueing, and if it can be powered from the device itself.

Pictures to follow in the coming days.

Instead of taking a board from a google home mini, why not using a Raspberry Pi? There are a lot of tutorials on how to do that, google let you implement google assistant on raspberry pi.

Unfortunately, there is no CC/CA implementation for RPi. So, going with the CCA board may indeed be the only viable option.

I tried the simplest way of what you’re doing: connecting the CCA with the beolit USB and then via line-in. Unfortunately too much static from the USB to make this stable.

It’s done. Tuomas helped me finish the project this evening. Here is a picture from assembly.

The airplay card was removed so we could fit the google home mini’s board.

Tuomas took some pictures of the final thing. It is wicked Big Smile

Wow! I love the glow through the mesh grille Smile

By any chance, did you source a replacement for the battery?

No, haven’t done that yet.

There is noise on the internal usb board, so we simply powered it externally.

But with a new battery, it should be fully portable.

Now it has that nice smell of Tuomas’ soldering and my overuse of hot glue Cool

But I have today that this looks sooooo cool IRL Big Smile

What a great way of up-cycling an older system. I doubt a brand would easily be able to offer these sort of mods without licenses. Well done guys!

I think this could be done to BS8 / A8 also. Sadly I don’t have a unit to tinker with.

Here's a quick video of us putting the thing together and testing it out (because we only realised we should film this when we were that far) Big Smile

Hi all

Have bought an old Beolit 12 and will try to do the same - the pictures from the link in this thread aren't available anymore. Can someone send me pictures from the project - where / what to do.

Thanks to the forum

Carlo
