I would choose a Beoremote 1 every time. It’s very reliable and allows you to select sources as well. If you use TuneIn your favourite radio stations are mirrored on the remote. In time you could use this with other products as you can pair up to 8 Bluetooth devices and it’s also fully backward compatible with legacy IR products.

Thanks for your input.

How simple is it when you have just one source? Is it as simple as picking it up and clicking volume down?

In that case I’d say the Essence Remote might be ideal.

Otherweise I agree with Stuart.

To be precise, Hereford, yes. If your BR One BT is only ever used with a single source device (e.g. Core) you just pick up the remote and hit Volume + or Volume -.

At least that is the way mine works with my BS Essence MkII. It does this regardless of how I have started it playing, whether via Airplay, B&O app or Line In.

But what I prefer about using the Essence remote is the physical feedback via the wheel of how much or little I have adjusted the volume.

And the Essence Remote can pair to Core all by itself? It has bluetooth? I’m a bit cautious because I already  made the mistake of buying the wrong Beoremote 1...

I use the essence remote with the core and it works really well. The volume wheel is cool and very tactile.

It also has the wow factor with visitors who are unfamiliar with B&O.

... and as you get more sources in your Core, a single press on the Essence remote navigates from one source to the other, change tracks or radio stations, mute or unmute the sound. If you add more NL products later, a single press can also join another experience (multiroom), a long press shutdown all products. In summary, a very simple, efficient and nicely designed wheel that has the wow effect mentioned previously.

A very reliable option is to connect the IR-eye that borh has physical volume buttons and can be controlled by eg. a Beo4 remote.

I agree that the Essence remote has a wow factor. I wish I did not have to stop using the one I previously used with my Core. But I replaced 20s with 50s and use the volume control in the 50s so can no longer use the Essence remote.

Is the wheel more responsive when connected to the Core? With the Essence it’s quite buggy. Soketimes you need to press twice to start listening and volume control is also not smooth at all.

I have a second wheel controlling a Beosound 2 without any issues. So I guess it’s the Essence.

It happens occasionally that you have to wait 1 or 2 s for the Core to answer to a volume change action, but I have seen that on my BS 1 too

To my knowledge, the Core has to be a special version in order to be able to have an IR-eye connected.

Type 3051 Partnumber 1293042 according to another thread on the subject.

I went with the Beosound Essence Remote, thanks for everyone's input.

I bought a from 2nd hand retailer. And I'm wondering if the Remote is supposed to have LEDs that give a visual feedback when clicking the buttons (and mine is broken in that regard) ?

Congratulations!
